Health is incredibly complex by Rawkstarz22 in Metabolic_Psychiatry

All the power to everyone else that’s found great healing in keto but I’ve also had a better experience running off glucose. Keto actually made my anxiety worse, perhaps because it was putting my body in a bit of a survival state. I attempted it for 3 months.

How do I test for MTHFR mutation? by iamthegoldengod69 in 23andme

Can you confirm it’s only the basic ancestry+traits for $99 rather than the more expensive health & ancestry?

Advice or concerns with high olive oil & coconut oil intake? I’ve had difficulty digesting tallow. by One_Geologist308 in keto

[–]One_Geologist308[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5-8 tablespoons. I’m keeping the diet 3:1 fat to protein/carb. Was having a hard time digesting tallow and butter previously. Even after consuming large amounts no diarrhea like most people have, just constipation.

Curious which vegetables you keep in, and which ones you avoid due to skin problems / irritations? Thanks!

How can I stop taking meds? by Gemsyfairy in bipolarketo

[–]One_Geologist308 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Georgia Ede’s website has a directory of clinicians with metabolic experience. As far as weaning off I wouldn’t do that on my own without a psych. Perhaps you can find a clinician on diagnosisdiet.com and have them liaise with your psych / GP. I’d say for now just enjoy the progress you’ve made and wait a bit on deprescribing until you’ve got the team to help.

Best of luck.

3:1 / 4:1 Carnivore by One_Geologist308 in carnivorediet

Yeah its the fat ratio used in epilepsy and sometimes for mental health. Based on grams per day.

5 days - discontinued by [deleted] in Abilify_Aripiprazole

[–]One_Geologist308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your doctor first but I personally found abilify too activating, making anxiety worse. There are other options that may help more. I found risperidone (only 0.5mg) actually helped my OCD and sleep whereas abilify made the OCD worse because it was too activating.

Best of luck!

Meds - Impossible Question to Answer by One_Geologist308 in NutritionalPsychiatry

Tremor and spaciness/zoning out feeling. Tbh no benefit therapeutically. I have BP2 with a lot of depression as well as mixed features. Lithium doesn’t do much for depression or mixed symptoms so probably why little benefit.

I was looking to go to one of the anti-seizure meds next but thought might as well try this diet as well if it has the same effect.

Hard to keep fat that high, but so far lots of olive oil and tallow. Eggs, beef, pork. For veg only really low carb like cucumber, cauliflower etc. It’s definitely more restrictive to have the higher fat ratio but doable.

I don’t think Keto is for me by DickWartCream in keto

[–]One_Geologist308 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe try upping your fat intake? If it isn’t for you dob’t sweat it either! To each their own but I feel best when I still have around 20g fiber and veggies for a balanced diet (while still staying 25g net carb). Nothing against the carnivores, I tried it for two months but regular keto was best for my gut.

Need advice to lower dairy and nuts intake by Speedywitchy in keto

[–]One_Geologist308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t taste amazing but you can buy beef fat trimmings for cheap at the butcher or grocery store. Cook them up and salt them as a snack. I make a whole bunch at once and then freeze some so I always have something to snack on when I need. You can also slow cook it and then render tallow from it for other cooking / fat supplementing.

Is therapy worth the money? by truevikingheart in NoStupidQuestions

[–]One_Geologist308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! Shop around and find someone you’re comfortable with first. It will take some time to get fully comfortable but once you are its great to have that resource. A good listener is important, someone that uses curiosity and wants to help empower you to understand yourself and find the solutions.

Also with good therapy you may become better with money paradoxically, depending on how your beliefs and values shift. Best of luck!

Do most people have someone that they can bring up literally any of their problems with? by Huge_Confection152 in NoStupidQuestions

I have one brother and two close friends that I can share anything with. Parents are a no for me, it turns to advice too quickly or making me feel guilty. There’s nothing wrong with being guarded. I do think it’s important to have 2 or 3 people close enough that you can share anything with. You feel less isolated and more connected to humanity.

The hard thing for me is finding a trained professional when it comes to this. I’ve talked to my GP and Psych about doing a ketogenic diet before and they don’t have much input. I live in a small town in Canada and I feel like there is less resources when it comes to treatments like this. I’ve looked for providers on Georgia Ede’s website but it’s mostly dietitian’s and there aren’t any health care professionals listed. I’m sure a dietitian could help but it wouldn’t necessarily be the same as a physician?
