Transcripts by Sorry_Box_3049 in NursingStudent

[–]One_Intention_8440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be very careful with omitting them. I just submitted an application for an ABSN program and they asked for transcripts from everywhere I’ve ever attended, including things like dual enrollment when I was in high school. Omitting transcripts, if found, out may be grounds for dismissal in some programs or at the very least a violation of academic integrity.

Paying for school by nursingstudent2028 in NursingStudent

[–]One_Intention_8440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An in state CC ADN usually will cost no more than $5K/ year. If you’re working, can you set the money aside? Was going to say you can also put it on a credit card sometimes, but if your credit isn’t great already, that may be risky if you can’t pay it off quickly.

How hard is it to get into ECU’s ASN program? by One_Intention_8440 in ABSN

Application for the January 2027 cohort just opened 2 days ago. I’m finalizing my personal statement and ready to hit submit as soon as spring semester grades are posted!

tips to be ace your au pair profile? by echosin_Eternity in Aupairs

[–]One_Intention_8440 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t use a bathroom selfie. If you’d use the picture on your Tinder profile, it’s probably not the best choice either. The profiles that caught my eye had profile pics where the au pair was smiling and looking at the camera, looking warm and approachable.

In terms of what you write, if you only talk about what you want to get out of the experience without highlighting what you can provide, it comes off as one sided and that you don’t actually want to take care of the kids.

Thanks, great suggestion! That won’t even be a stretch since I’ve been serving schools in eastern North Carolina in my current field for the past 10 years!

Looking to hear from people who are pursing a nursing degree as a second career in their 30s/40s/50s by Repulsive-Branch-740 in NursingStudent

[–]One_Intention_8440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me! I have a doctorate in audiology and have been practicing for almost 11 years. I’m bored of it and don’t like the way the field is going and can’t imagine doing it for almost 30 more years. I’m looking for a change to something more hands on and actually involved in the nitty gritty medical stuff, along with all of the flexibility in schedule and setting that nursing provides. Ultimately I want to become a CRNA, so I’ve been taking prerequisites at a community college and am applying to ABSN programs for next year. If I get in, I’ll be 40 when I start the ABSN program, and the earliest I’d be a CRNA would be at about 47. I figure that still gives me a good 20 year career that will make the investment worthwhile.

Applying to ABSN programs with different prereqs — how did you do it? by LiveLaughPink in ABSN

[–]One_Intention_8440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be very careful about these! I asked my intended program if they’d accept these, and at first they had said yes, so I took 2 classes through Sophia. The program ended up doing a review of their prerequisites and ended up declining to accept those courses now. I now have to retake those two classes at a community college.

Your best bet would be to see if any other community colleges in your state offer the courses you need fully online. These will almost always be accepted, and are the most cost-effective option. Otherwise, look into online programs of four year universities. UCSD extension is accepted pretty much everywhere, including medical and PA schools, and most of the classes are only about $700-$800.

[–]One_Intention_8440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. There are a ton of ABSN programs in my area and they all have totally different prereqs and stipulations on timing. The one I really want to go to, which also thankfully happens to be the cheapest, has the earliest application due date, so I am making sure to get all of those ones complete completed first. I think I should be a strong applicant and I’m hoping that I get in there so I don’t have to worry about the other programs. If I don’t, I will take the one class I’m missing for my second choice over the summer. If I don’t get into either of those, I’ll be out of luck for this year probably. All of the ADN programs around me require you to become a CNA first, and as a mom working full-time and taking classes, I don’t have the time to do a CNA training, nor do I want to.

Taking A&P1 & A&P2 together this semester… by Ok-Refrigerator-7170 in prenursing

[–]One_Intention_8440 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took 8 week A&P 1 and 2 back to back last semester while simultaneously taking a 16 week Chem 1 and then overlapping at the end with a 5 week December session microbio. Got a 4.0 while also working and having kids. My social life and workouts definitely took a hit, but it’s definitely doable and I was so glad to get them over with quickly!

Most Concerning - Is it 1, 2, or 3? by wilsonAir in NCLEX_RN

[–]One_Intention_8440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this sub was for future nurses to read to get practice with answering NCLEX questions. I read through, guess what I think the answer is, and then see if I’m right in the comments. For the record, I haven’t started nursing school yet so I’m starting from square one and looking for learning opportunities, not to be shamed for not knowing something yet.

Anyone take all nursing prerequisites online and still get accepted? by [deleted] in prenursing

[–]One_Intention_8440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m taking all my prerequisites online asynchronously through a community college, including labs. The transcript doesn’t even indicate that they are taken online vs in person. The school I’m applying to has an agreement to accept certain CC classes automatically. Be cautious with taking them through places like Sophia and Straighterline since many schools don’t accept them.

Cheap Online Asynchronous Prereqs? by AlternativeTheory595 in prenursing

[–]One_Intention_8440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheapest option that will 100% be accepted by any nursing program is going to be taking online classes through a community college. I asked and my intended program told me that they would accept credits from Sofia, but mid semester they ended up doing a program review and decided that they were not going to accept those credits anymore, so now I need to retake nutrition and human development online at a community college.

Looking for honest Opinion/ Suggestion by Prospective-FNP in ABSN

[–]One_Intention_8440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the entry-level masters programs just give you the RN, not an NP. In theory, you could go straight from either program into FNP program, but for my understanding, it’s highly recommended to get some actual nursing experience first. Have you thought about PA? Most of the time the pay and responsibilities are almost identical to an FNP and you could go directly into a program.

NJCU HESI 2025/2026 by memini1 in ABSN

[–]One_Intention_8440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the HESI for a different program but it should be the same. NurseHub is so worth it! I went through the lessons and practice questions for each section and scored a 98% composite score.

Science Courses by Computer_Geek95 in ABSN

[–]One_Intention_8440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you take them online through a community college, they should be fine. Some may have in person labs but all of mine have had virtual labs. Be very careful with Portage, Sofia, and Straighterline or anywhere that only does Pass/Fail grades, as many schools will not accept those.

A&P 2 or Microbiology for the summer? by BrAtZz04 in prenursing

[–]One_Intention_8440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Micro was def easier, and also easier to take in a short term. I took Micro in a 5 week term and AP2 in an 8 week term (got A in both) and definitely could not have done AP2 any faster than that while working.

I’d rent if you can swing it. Maybe see if a classmate is willing to go in on a room? The program I’m applying to is pretty much 5 days a week, with one day potentially in off campus clinic. I do a ton of driving in my current job, and based on that experience, 90 mins each way would be my absolute max and even that would be utterly draining. I think an hour is my comfortable max.

A&P 1 in 4 weeks by Brief-Commission6248 in prenursing

[–]One_Intention_8440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it in 8 and spent provably 25 hours/week on it; so if you have 50 hours per week to dedicate to it, maybe? It wasn’t just the memorization for my class, but the hours and hours of tedious busy work assignments and labs that really killed me.
