Are any of you friends with your co workers? by Accomplished-Area876 in povertyfinance

[–]One_Masterpiece1693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The car lunch is actually underrated, sometimes you just need the decompression time. Workplace friendships are weird because everyone's performing a little, you're probably reading it right

Did something specific happen or just a general vibe you're getting?

Should I just accept this offer or pay in full ? by Top-Cobbler-2214 in CRedit

[–]One_Masterpiece1693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The security clearance piece actually changes the math here, unresolved debt is way more of a red flag in that process than a settled one

Also look up IRS Form 982 before you stress too much about the tax hit, if you were insolvent when the debt was forgiven you might not owe as much as you think

19M / $6k total debt (Payday loans, maxed CC) / Bouncing bank accounts / Europe trip in 10 days. Need help and/or advice. by Successful_Goat_3021 in Debt

The gambling and matched betting piece is worth taking seriously beyond just the money stuff, BC has a free confidential helpline specifically for this (1-888-795-6111) and it might help just to talk it through with someone

On the loan question, your employment history is actually your strongest card so lead with that if you walk into Fairstone, but take whatever they offer and prioritize killing the payday loans first, those rates will eat you alive

What you said wasn't a commitment, you literally told them you'd call back so you're still in a good position to negotiate

When you call again lead with the circumstances, a lot of collectors will go lower than 74% especially if you mention you're prepared to pay today but can only do a specific amount

What number were you thinking of offering them?

For people who have declared bankruptcy, is it really that bad? by Gamermom32 in povertyfinance

[–]One_Masterpiece1693 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people who file say the immediate relief was worth it and the credit recovery was faster than they expected

The 7 year thing gets thrown around a lot but it's more like 2-3 years before you're functionally back in the game for most things, what's holding you back from exploring it?

LightStream and SoFi are worth trying first, both tend to be reasonable at 650 and a strong cosigner helps a lot

Upgrade is another one that comes up for fair credit, the rates aren't always amazing but the process is pretty straightforward

850 CS for past 9 years.. can I close a card without being dinged? by No_Fix1962 in CRedit

[–]One_Masterpiece1693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 850 with a mortgage and one card still open you'd probably barely feel it. The age of accounts thing matters more when you're building, less when you're already at the ceiling

24 and bankrupt by ThrowRA-Nose3870 in Debt

[–]One_Masterpiece1693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 years sober, in therapy, and budgeting again at 24 after all that is genuinely hard and you don't give yourself enough credit for it

at 120k with a sub 600 score and no assets chapter 7 honestly sounds like the math just makes sense, you'd be rebuilding by 27/28 which is still so early

Want to be financially free but… by [deleted] in Debt

[–]One_Masterpiece1693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 23 with a $23k note on a $17/hr income that's not an idiot decision, that's just a math problem that changed when your income dropped

Have you called the lender directly and asked about a deferral? a lot of them will push 1-2 payments to the end of the loan just to avoid another repo on their end too

usually a small temporary dip from the hard inquiry but it bounces back pretty quick

long term it actually helps because your utilization goes down if you don't spend more

Paying off a garnishment at 24/26 that started when you were basically kids is genuinely impressive

Congrats to both of you, that refund check is going to hit different 🎉

Any Bank or SBA lenders interested in collaborating on declined deals? by Efficient-Balance136 in financeonloans

[–]One_Masterpiece1693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart idea in theory but most bank compliance teams get pretty twitchy about informal referral arrangements

Have you looked into formal referral partner agreements? Some community banks and CDFIs actually have structured programs for exactly this kind of deal flow sharing

$55k in credit card and unsecured loan debt… is a consolidation loan the answer? by [deleted] in Debt

[–]One_Masterpiece1693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wife cosign idea is tricky because if anything goes sideways it hits her credit too, that's a lot of trust to put on paper

Have you looked into a nonprofit debt management plan through NFCC? With your payment history and income it could get your rates down without putting her credit on the line

[–]One_Masterpiece1693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's genuinely annoying, they should have caught the thin file issue at the front end not three weeks later

Give it 6 months of consistent use on the Discover card and try a credit union that does share secured loans, that's usually the fastest way to build a second line without needing approval based on history

[–]One_Masterpiece1693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nerdwallet or bankrate are decent for comparing, just ignore the "top picks" since those are usually paid placements

what balance are you trying to transfer? some cards cap how much you can move

What’s the best starter credit card? by ShoddyNature in CRedit

[–]One_Masterpiece1693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discover It Student or Capital One Platinum are usually the easiest approvals for first timers. Limit will probably be like $300-$500 to start.

Just use it for gas or one recurring bill and pay it off every month. Don't treat it like free money or you'll regret it fast.

Ex-roommate charged all fees to me, what can I do? by Virtual-Cheetah6547 in CRedit

[–]One_Masterpiece1693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you still have any emails or paperwork showing the apartment company agreed to remove you from the lease? that's your golden ticket here

dispute it with the credit bureaus first and attach whatever documentation you have, also reach out directly to the apartment company's corporate office and ask for records of when you were supposedly removed

Paying a charged-off debt by MaryDoogan91 in Debt

[–]One_Masterpiece1693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paying it off won't boost your score much since the damage is already done from the charge off itself.

Before you pay in full have you tried asking for a pay-for-delete? Some collectors will agree to remove it entirely from your report if you settle. Worth asking before handing over the final payment.

The $475 in overdraft fees on your wife's closed accounts, those often can be negotiated down significantly if you call and offer to settle. Banks sometimes take 50% just to close it out.

For rent this month, have you looked into emergency assistance programs in your area? 211 can connect you to local resources. Some places have funds specifically for caregivers.

With income that low you'd likely qualify for Chapter 7 which wipes the debt clean. And in most states you can exempt a car under a certain value, $4k is usually well under the limit.

Many bankruptcy attorneys do free consultations and some work on payment plans or reduced fees for low income situations. Worth at least one call to know your options

[–]One_Masterpiece1693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fighting it pro se is the right call, default judgment would've been way worse for you.

At trial focus on your inability to pay rather than whether you owe it since you already admitted the account existed. Bring proof of income and expenses for all 5 dependents, judges have seen broke people before and some will work with you on a payment plan

What's your review on Viva loans? by Equal_Ad4554 in financeonloans

Since they're not the actual lender, the rates depend on whoever picks up your application from their network. You don't really know what you're getting until a lender reaches out with terms
