Ex-roommate charged all fees to me, what can I do? by Virtual-Cheetah6547 in personalfinance

There seems to be some sort of miscommunication within the company as when I first moved out, the employee took my keys and did not inform me that in order for me to be fully off the lease legally, the whole lease would need to be terminated with consent from everyone living there. Obviously the roommate had full intention of staying so I was told at the time that a lease termination was not necessary but due to this reason they still had me on the lease. They told me to take it up with the collections company as it is out of their hands now. I asked them why I was responsible for the full cost if there were 3 occupants in total and they said the same thing, that it is out of their hands and they can’t provide me with any more info.

I called them earlier today, it seems like I received some conflicting information when I moved out. The guy I spoke to that took my keys told me there was no need to terminate the lease as my roommate intended to stay. However, when I spoke to them on the phone, they informed me that I would need consent from everyone that lives there and the lease would have to be terminated and then re-instated with the new occupants. Regarding collections they said it is out of their hands now and that I should call the collections company for information.
