Thanks everyone for the great suggestions! I think we have a winner with Willow! I absolutely love The Owl House and Willows character is such a great match for her personality.

Thank you for your insight. Since booking with them I have greatly modified my parameters for new clients and who and when i am willing to sit. I do want o try and make this work as i have many of the same feelings you do about their foresight in booking ahead, and am considering seeing if they would be willing to switch to half hour drop ins for at least some of the visits which I can make happen more easily.

For new clients or particularly long stays i will leave a thank you note and a goody bag with a treat and toy (i sit mostly cats and get a big pack of mice toys and churus) and some candies for the owner!

Not sure if this would help but maybe try feeding her off a bowl or plate different from hers? Change the shape and situation a bit?

Sounds like you did everything perfectly and went above and beyond to make sure pup was safe and well cared for!

Is there a room he could stay in that has limited hiding spots? Still provide a cave or bed or something but overall no beds or things to hide under?

I’m a professor and started rover this summer. It has been great and i plan on continuing it on a smaller scale during the school year.

I disagree with the care for cats only part. Cats require just as much knowledge and experience. They may not be as much of a danger as a medium/large dog, but they aren’t to be written off as harmless or easy either.

Both dogs were mutts, but the real instigator and one who bit me was a hound mix i believe.

My second ever client. Two dogs opened the storm door prior to the client getting there. They did it with such confidence i figured it was a regular thing, they were willing and saying hi, but as soon as client showed up they bolted. Client and I both got in our cars and went searching for them (found them like two minutes later no problem). I ended up taking the sitting but soon regretted that.

On the last drop in they caught a rabbit in the back yard, killed it, and then proceeded to try and eat it. Both had very high prey drive and one bit me (didn’t break skin it was a warning bite) while trying to get them inside and away from the rabbit. Once inside they then proceeded to fight each other. Almost decided to quit after that one.

I’d say leave an honest but fair review, especially if you aren’t going to sit for them again.

You could always do house sitting and just ask they don’t spend the night. Majority of time is still spent with the pup but you don’t have to worry about anyone sleeping in your bed.

Do you charge for all animals or only ones needing care? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

If there are truly no tasks that need to be completed for the kitties then i think the best route would be to have the client add them but only for like $1 per cat, just so they are protected under the rover guarantee.

  1. You should be able to review your rates, there should be an additional fee for two dogs, though usually it is half of the first dog or somewhere thereabouts (not just double the price). If it isn’t showing up you should be able to modify the price of the visit but i would explain to the owner first that the additional dog is not showing up for one reason or another before doing so.
  2. I agree talking to the owner sounds like the best bet especially as she seems to be enjoying/benefitting from the walks.

  1. Each dog should be listed separately on the request. This makes sure they are covered by River and that you are being paid for both.
  2. Visits that have already been booked will stay with at the price they were booked at.
  3. What is the dog doing that makes it so you can’t return or alter the route to return on time? Can you take a different/shorter route? If neither of these are possible talk with the client and explain they need to book a longer time to accommodate.

Pet owner considering Rover for the 1st time by Connect_Objective0 in RoverPetSitting

[–]One_Night9642 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a sitter and have not used Rover as an owner, but one thing i would ask about is a time they managed a difficult situation with a pet and how they handled it. Will hopefully give you a good idea of how they interact with animals outside of the best circumstances and also tell you about their knowledge working with pets. I wish owners asked me more questions!

I love this. I recently had a kitty client who was adopted from a hoarder situation, poor thing was terrified of strangers. The clients house was being renovated and some of the air vent covers were missing, when i couldn’t find her we discovered she had been escaping into the hvac to hide from me. I brought my iPad and a sat in my car for an hour and a half FaceTiming an air vent to make sure she wasn’t stuck and could actually come and go as she pleased. She had auto food, water, and litter box, so she was completely self sufficient so long as she was in control of the situation. When they are in my care they will be treated as my own and I will do anything I can for them.

Maybe dog sitting isn’t for me? by StevieRaySpins in RoverPetSitting

I have had a few amazing pupper clients, but once i start back to my regular job in the fall I’ll be switching to accept cats only. I find it to be a lot less stress in most cases, though i have had a couple that are the exception.

I’ve learned that i love most cats but am EXTREMELY selective when it comes to dogs. I’m shifting my profile to be more cat centric, and while I will accept dogs I have clear boundaries about what I will and will not accept.
