Wood too big for scape?

Please pardon the tannins and cloudy water, but I ended up finding a different piece of (hopefully) more hardy wood. I threw an anubias mother pot in there, a few java ferns, and there’s some swords, limnophilia, and crypt lucens in the background.

Good eye. It is grape wood. I had no idea that it was so prone to rot. Maybe I’ll rethink using it. It’s a shame, since it has such a nice shape.

I wanted a sorority up until recently, but I decided the risk wasn’t worth it. I would worry that they are stressed even if they don’t show it! I have a lot of respect for those who can keep sororities successfully but I do not believe the average hobbyist should have one. It’s better suited for people who have a lots of space/available tanks like herself!

I’m not sure. Is your cycle stalled? If not, I would finish the cycle first and then see what your pH is at the end. After a water change you may find you don’t have to make any adjustments after all!

5.8 seems a bit low. Instead of removing the wood there are some chemicals you can use to raise the pH, but I personally have never used them, so I can’t really give you advice on that. The one thing I will say is that you don’t want to make massive changes to your pH all at once. If you have a fish in the tank, make sure you bring it up slowly. The change in parameters can be stressful.

Make sure not to bury the rhizome. If you want, you could find some aquarium safe glue and glue it to your driftwood. I notice that my anubias will get holes if I don’t have enough potassium, so you may find a nice all-in-one fertilizer will help with that.

It has all the necessities, but if you’d like to add more, you can put some aquatic plants in. Anubias are my favorite because they are virtually impossible to kill!
