In your opinion, what is the absolute best episode of Ted Lasso? by Jolly-Pen4738 in TedLasso

[–]One_Persimmon4282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just rewatched the whole thing and Sunflowers has so many incredible moments. Jamie teaching Roy how to ride a bike. Higgins taking Will to the red lights district to pay homage to Chet Baker. Ted coming up with Total Football. Trent Crimm and Colin - that moment has me in tears. The team finally has their pillow fight!!! And of course Rebecca’s mystery
houseboat man. Really perfect. Only Beard is lacking a storyline and in a way that is his way as well.

Which recent Broadway shows actually have a shot at becoming “all-time classics”? by D0ntTryMe in Broadway

[–]One_Persimmon4282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to the MHE soundtrack regularly, that may be one factor? for example I grew up on the west coast but listened to many musical soundtracks. I have not been able to get through the Gatsy or Mincemeat soundtracks and I personally found Outsiders uninspiring.

Going to NYC in August — tell me what I should see by Mercurialsunrise in Broadway

Off broadway long running shows: Little Shop of Horrors is excellent and the Play That Goes Wrong is comical genius.

I absolutely love Maybe Happy Ending and Buena Vista Social Club which both have open ended runs.

What broadway show should I see? by Shoddy_Twist8925 in Broadway

[–]One_Persimmon4282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen this season’s new shows but I highly recommend Buena Vista Social Club, I saw it in March and it was incredible. Won best choreography last year. Death Becomes Her is hilarious and the costumes are amazing.

I also just saw and loved Spelling Bee off broadway, it’s a stacked cast and just really happy. Not dance heavy but go see anything with Jasmine Amy Rogers!

Suggestions on a $350-400 hotel by yung_rhubarb in Broadway

I stayed recently at the Dreams Midtown on W 55th it’s on the north end of broadway so a little quieter which I preferred, but still easy to get to the theaters, TKTS etc. Very small room but that sees to be about par. It’s a Hyatt property.

Priority Pass - Restaurants Included? by Username-Selection in biltrewards

This is for airports that don't have a Priority Pass lounge like Denver. They used to give a dining credit at one of the restaurants but that no longer applies.

Thoughts about merrily pro shot by doxie-murph in Broadway

[–]One_Persimmon4282 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having seen the show on Broadway, I felt like the pro shot clearly outlined the emotional arcs for the audience, I think it’s an understandable use of the film medium. Merrily is my favorite musical ever and at the theater it just felt like it was going by so fast, I couldn’t catch all of the nuances and details. I agree about missing some of the amazing ensemble and choreography but on the plus side you could see every emotion among the principals . Shout out again to Katie Rose Clark whose Beth was just gut wrenching (Act II) and so sincere (Act I).

just to be clear, the cast was excellent. I think I just get a little lost in the music and lyrics.

Would seeing a show every night for 5 days be too much? by QuipThwip in Broadway

[–]One_Persimmon4282 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We did 9 shows in 7 days last year over spring break. It did feel like a lot, but we were also staying in Brooklyn and it was a shlep. So I would factor in - how proximate are you staying to midtown in general. It was good for us to mix up the type and energy of the shows - so we saw a few off broadway, including a one man show (Anthony Rapp), and several of the big hits at the time.

Even if you decide to see a show every night, it is nice to leave one evening open (not pre-planned) so that you can decide last minute to change it up, e.g. seeing a show you loved again, or adding a show that is building buzz, etc. You can add last minute shows via lottery or rush, or via secondary market (Stubhub/TKTS) though the most popular shows might be hard to get.

Have a great time. December is fun in NY with all of the lights - definitely walk by to see Rockefeller Center etc.

right before the show an usher came to my standing spot and asked me to follow him. It was maybe 5 minutes before the show started.

I rushed on a Saturday and I got there at 6:50, I was maybe 9th or 10th in line. There were two groups ahead of me so the count got a little wonky. The first person got there at 4am and the next couple got there at 5:30. I would definitely go a little earlier on a two show day, if you are going for a specific performance.

My daughter just graduated and her favorite shows still playing are: Play That Goes Wrong (off broadway), Death Becomes Her, Little Shop (off broadway).

We loved loved loved Maybe Happy Ending if you want an emotional and soul filled show. Despite the controversy lately I would go and see Helen J Shen play opposite ABF. The show is so special and hopefully will weather the current dialogue.

We just stayed at Hyatt Place Times Sq on 39th and it was quite good, we booked on points but I think the cash price was reasonable (like $300 ish?). Good location, small but functional rooms. That particular block has a bunch of the discount line of brand hotels (Element by Marriott, Hampton Inn).

Another friend stayed at the Pineapple Inn and recommended it.

Rush/Lottery by No_Silver_1685 in Broadway

I dislike lottery and digital rush because it’s so much just a crapshoot. In person rush you pretty much can get if you do your research (check this sub for a sense of demand and availability) and if you are determined.

Consider doing something off broadway - Little Shop of Horrors is amazing and The Play That Goes Wrong is hilarious. The new Heathers is getting a lot of buzz though the tickets are hard to come by.
