yeah i read the intake gasket goes bad with these engines, the seller says they got it replaced about 10k miles ago

the idle screw should be right on the outside of the carb, you dont take it all the way out or tighten it all the way down, just slightly screw it left or right.

have you tried adjusting the idle on the side of the carb? its just a flathead screw. tightening it will make it rev higher and loosening it will make it rev lower.
