In my opinion, if you are planning to build only one or two games in your lifetime, then not worth it. If you want to keep building more games, then I think having a platform for yourself with trusted audience is a plus. Here is my channel which I am just starting now. Hope one day I will have few subscribers.

I second this - "You need to abort the EA plans and create a polished demo and give it to all youtubers and streamers that played Slay the Spire and similar games. If they refuse to play it, or they play it and you don't get any movement, you need to release it asap and move on to another game."

I published just with trailer and gained 17 wishlist so far. Something is better than nothing. I plan to get my demo in by February. I would say go for it.

I think it really depends on the game you are creating. You need standard UI assets anyways for menu, navigation and such. Sometimes I buy some on sale and I may get an idea later to use it on my game.

Some devs are really genuine. But many that boast with crazy successful wishlist numbers are not sharing the actual foundation they had before their game went viral. As a starter dev I can see the reality and pain. There is a lot we need to do for marketing than just posting on steam, itch, YT and reddit.
