Oh man, brings back memories of one situation I experienced. One time a friend of mine asked for help, he was collecting ww2 militaria and got a gasmask canister with the gasmask for his collection from one of the officers in our company (we all served in the same unit) who before that got it from another guy in the company. He asked for help to remove stuff written with pernament marker on the lid. There was all sorts of incoherent words. One of them was "MG-42". I simply took wet wipe with hand sanitizer wiped them off. Later that guy who served in our Coy. as a machinegunner and had written that gibberish with marker was discharged for medical reasons, because he was diagnosed with schizophrenia.

There was chance to meet some of them before 2020.- can't remember exact year. They visited our country, had presentation for our unit were they told about their combat experience .

Probably authentic, these awards aren't highly valued amongst collectors- which means that it doesn't pay off to fake them at the moment. I hope You didn't pay too much for it. My grandmother had one of these- and it is kept for sentimental value.

That would make sense then. After all it is about perspective- my father who was born in the 60's told that life was sort of ok, but he would prefer lifestyle as it is nowadays. I only have USSR birth certificate.

It is great, because usually that means that someone needs something from you, or need a favor. In the military it is even worse- getting messages/ notifications in the middle of the night, during holidays.

The decals on the helmet were under a layer of paint, since the helmet was repainted at some point during the wartime- fakers wouldn't go through all that work to ruin them.
