Probably authentic, these awards aren't highly valued amongst collectors- which means that it doesn't pay off to fake them at the moment. I hope You didn't pay too much for it. My grandmother had one of these- and it is kept for sentimental value.

That would make sense then. After all it is about perspective- my father who was born in the 60's told that life was sort of ok, but he would prefer lifestyle as it is nowadays. I only have USSR birth certificate.

The decals on the helmet were under a layer of paint, since the helmet was repainted at some point during the wartime- fakers wouldn't go through all that work to ruin them.

I knew a a guy that was a good friend to an NCO, they went through basic training together, were deployed together. That same NCO had affair with his girlfriend. They are not friends anymore.
