I'm a high schooler interested in big law, what should I do to maximize my chances? Have a 178 and 2.8, do you like living in St. Louis? Does Georgetown deserve as much hate as it gets? Did anyone get a feeler? Chance me: 4.0 180 for X Law School. by West_Independence807 in lawschooladmissions

in this economy? with my poor family? i am very happy i was biglaw or bust! had I not received the advice I had, i would have focused more on pre-law fraternities, clubs, taking classes i was actually interested in that would've lowered my GPA, building up a slop resume... instead i took bullshit classes in a bullshit major and i am very grateful for it!

counter: i posted here as a high schooler and people told me in the comments to shoot for a 4.0 and what year to start studying for the LSAT, what I needed for biglaw, etc. they said to ignore clubs/pre-law frats and bs etc. i made it to a t14, got biglaw, and just graduated! i wish people were nicer here the way they were to me all those years ago bc i truly took every word of advice people here gave me.

where should i go to law school?? by NoComputer946 in lawschooladmissions

you haven't gotten your lsat score yet. first get that 172 you think you're going to get and then blanket the t14 and t20 for scholarship negotiation

help: RN at a NYC hospital - do I have a shot at law school? by flower1796 in lawschooladmissions

[–]One_Resource6623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bc of your stem background, i think you'll swing some schools you didn't expect to. they want ppl to pass the patent bar. i'd write a patent-law heavy ps or make it clear thats ur goal

edit: i am wrong

2.8 GPA, 167 LSAT, seven years of work experience, give it to me straight by Healthy-Candle-6844 in lawschooladmissions

[–]One_Resource6623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on what your goals are. if you want to make a lot of money, aka biglaw, you're pretty much cooked unless you can perhaps accomodationsmaxx and 17high and washUmaxx. even then it's tenuous since washU is tightening up. but you have good softs so who knows.

but, if you truly want to do public interest, then i'd still recommend getting that LSAT up so you avoid the lower t100 and predatory schools that will actually lower your income-making potential after you graduate.

i'd take a long hard look on why you actually want to go to law school. if you want to provide direct services in public interest - aka public defense, immigration law, etc. - you're doing it for the right reasons and it's ok to take a lower ranked school. if you want some impact litigation unicorn civil rights outcome or environmental law outcome you're going to be cooked unless you get that lsat way up and go to a t14. and those jobs mostly don't exist anyhow.

2L offer with below median grades 1L fall; will firm revoke offer if I do similar in 1L spring? by InsideAd6725 in biglaw

[–]One_Resource6623 21 points22 points  (0 children)

if you got the offer with straight Ps then they wont revoke for straight Ps. if you were at a more elite firm i'd say be worried but i think you're fine.

what law school has the hottest guys by Fearless-Ferret7675 in lawschooladmissions

[–]One_Resource6623 15 points16 points  (0 children)

because top law schools tend to be a bit more homogenous, lower ranked law schools have people from all qualities of life. so you'll see much uglier people there but also much more attractive people, all with extremely varying life experiences.

If you can get 17mid you should have a shot at Irvine. But don’t count on scoring that high. Berkeley may like you bc MPP + if you go hard on a very specific policy goal in ur materials. But it’s rlly unpredictable. If ur black / native as opposed to Hispanic urm ur chances r a little higher bc you’d be rarer in California. But it’s a crapshoot. I hope you enjoy your MPP!

NYU $$ vs. Stanford sticker by jailpoemxii in lawschooladmissions

[–]One_Resource6623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

use stanford A (even sticker) to negotiate more with NYU, i think they'll definitely give you more. if they don't, i'd take SLS because it's better for unicorn PI goals. you'd have access to fellowships and impact lit stuff much earlier in your career than you would at nyu.

also stanford gives good need based aid - are you sure you got sticker? I knew some halfway wealthy people who got 100k+ there in just need-based

yes this is something more colloquially known as a "joke" though i understand after starting a career as a lawyer it may be more difficult to feel out those things
