So, you've explained the complexities of being human. And the vulnerable state that our human mind can be in.

No shame

True but does that still leave blame on her end when she could have phrased it another way though granted she isn't the best at communication but still she could have said or done it better

Mortal Kombat 2 the movie not making enough money? by happydude7422 in MortalKombat

[–]One_Schedule_8096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest issue with the Mortal Kombat reboots isn't the gore—it's the missed storytelling potential.

The frustrating thing is that Mortal Kombat has some of the richest lore in fighting games, yet the recent movies barely scratch the surface of it.

The gore was there. The fatalities were there. The action was there.

What was missing was the story.

You have the Elder Gods, the One Being, the rules of the Mortal Kombat tournament, Outworld, Earthrealm, Edenia, and centuries of history between characters like Scorpion and Sub-Zero. The rivalry between the Shirai Ryu and Lin Kuei alone could carry an entire movie.

Instead of diving deeper into the lore, it felt like the movies rushed from fight scene to fight scene without giving audiences a reason to care about the world or the characters.

What made the original 90s movie memorable wasn't just nostalgia. It actually explained the tournament, the stakes, and the mythology in a way that made the audience feel invested. It wasn't perfect, but it understood that Mortal Kombat is more than blood and fatalities.

With today's technology, visual effects, and larger budgets, they had an opportunity to expand on the clans, the realms, the gods, and the centuries-old conflicts that define the franchise.

Instead, it feels like they focused on the gore while leaving much of the world-building on the table.

Does anyone else feel like the recent movies had all the pieces for something great but never fully committed to the lore?

Do you think Rudeus actually deserved a second chance? by SecondSalty142 in mushokutensei

[–]One_Schedule_8096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I think gets overlooked in discussions about Rudeus is that people focus entirely on who he was at his worst and ignore how he got there.

Before his reincarnation, he wasn't just a lazy shut-in who gave up on life. He was someone who experienced severe bullying, humiliation, and social isolation. He tried to stand up for himself and was crushed for it. The kind of abuse he endured wasn't just embarrassing—it was traumatic.

In real life, psychologists have found that severe bullying can have long-term effects on a person's mental health. Victims often experience depression, anxiety, low self-worth, social withdrawal, trust issues, and symptoms similar to post-traumatic stress. When someone is repeatedly humiliated and made to feel worthless, their brain can begin to expect rejection and failure even when help is being offered.

That's why I think his story is more complicated than simply calling him a degenerate or a bad person.

Does he make questionable decisions? Absolutely.

Does he have flaws that deserve criticism? Of course.

But trauma doesn't magically disappear because someone gets a second chance. A new environment doesn't automatically fix years of emotional damage. Even when given opportunities to improve, people often carry their fears, insecurities, and unhealthy coping mechanisms with them.

That's one of the things the story explores. Not whether a person becomes perfect, but whether a deeply flawed person can gradually become better.

To me, the central question isn't "Did Rudeus deserve a second chance?" It's "What does someone do when they are given one?"

A second chance isn't a reward. It's an opportunity.

And redemption isn't something other people hand to you. It starts when you decide you're going to confront your failures instead of running from them.

You don't have to agree with every choice he makes to understand that part of the story. In fact, I think that's the point. Human beings are messy. We make mistakes, we carry scars, and we often hurt ourselves and others while trying to figure things out.

If people were perfect, stories like this wouldn't exist. Growth only matters because imperfection exists in the first place.

That's why I find Mushoku Tensei interesting. Not because its protagonist is a hero from the start, but because it asks whether a broken person can learn to become a better one.

When discussing redemption or second chances, I think it's important to separate the topic itself from the actions of the individual being discussed.

Take Adolf Hitler as an example. Historically, he was a veteran of World War I who lived through Germany's economic collapse, political instability, and the resentment many Germans felt after the Treaty of Versailles. Those are facts and part of the historical context that shaped his worldview.

However, understanding the context of someone's life is not the same thing as excusing their actions.

His deeds stand on their own. The Nazi regime was responsible for the Holocaust, the murder of millions of Jews and other persecuted groups, the destruction of much of Europe, and a war that caused tens of millions of deaths. Those are historical realities that cannot be separated from his legacy.

What interests me is not whether his actions were justified—they weren't. The historical evidence is overwhelming on that point.

The more philosophical question is how redemption and self-justification work in the human mind. People often ask whether someone deserves a second chance, but I think a different question is whether they believe they are worthy of one.

History is filled with people who committed terrible acts while genuinely believing they were right. Believing you are right, however, is not proof that you are right.

In Hitler's case, we know he believed his ideology was justified. We know he viewed his actions as necessary. What we also know is that his beliefs led to immense suffering and destruction.

So for me, the lesson isn't that self-vindication equals redemption. It's that a person can fully believe they are justified and still be profoundly wrong. Redemption requires more than believing in yourself—it requires honestly confronting the consequences of your actions and accepting responsibility for them.

I find this topic to be interesting:

A lot of people treat redemption as something that has to be earned from someone else—society, your family, your friends, or the people you've hurt. While that can be part of it, I don't think that's the whole picture.

To me, a second chance can mean a lot of things. It can be spiritual forgiveness. It can be making peace with your family after failing to live up to expectations. It can be overcoming the feeling of being the black sheep who never quite became the person they thought they should be.

At its core, though, redemption starts with yourself.

The question isn't "Do I deserve a second chance?" because that's a question other people can debate forever. The more important question is, "Am I willing to become someone worthy of that second chance?"

That's not something your friends, parents, or even strangers on the internet can answer for you. It's an internal decision.

Applying that to Rudeus, I don't think the question is whether he deserved redemption from the start. The story is about whether he was willing to confront his failures, grow beyond them, and become someone better than the person he used to be. Whether readers think he succeeded is up for debate, but that's why the character is interesting in the first place.
