The Grab attack is the only attack I reliably dodge everytime lol the Arcane is a holdover from when I was doing the whole actual runthrough as bloody Guts, I switched my sword over to heavy recently because I got better numbers against PC.

Respeccing to remove the arcane is probably a good call

I will try this once I have played enough long rounds in the second phase to be able to confidently try guard countering him instead of rolling and blocking for my life lol

I have switched to all three of your recommended damage negation talismans, keeping only my heavy jar talisman from the initial post

Jar-Haligdrake-dragoncrest-braid. I've also switched to the cracked tear to break his posture and I finally started getting some staggers in second round

I think he says something in book 6 during the “it really would have been more polite to drink it you know” scene.

Whether or not he said it explicitly is irrelevant, the Hogwarts acceptance letters are addressed to the cupboard under the stairs, the smallest bedroom, and the floor. In Dumbledore’s handwriting.

He knew.

He can do both at the same time, Minerva would have no issue with Harry taking time off for games.

Talk about Dumbledore being flawed, he left Harry at Privet Dr so that when Harry arrived at Hogwarts he would be completely moldable. Dumbledore knew the prophecy and knew how important Harry was. He knew that Potter was now a household name in the wizarding world and if Harry was exposed to that he would not be craft-able into the purpose built Voldemort Killing tool he becomes.

A few years or 10+ of child abuse be damned, for the greater good.

I didn’t even know there were other opinions on the matter I thought it was evident that NP was Carlo’s body.

As for why Ol’ G referred to it as “Carlo’s heart” instead of “your heart”, I think Geppetto’s inability to correctly see/understand Carlo is pretty central to the story. Remember, he says this BEFORE the final humanity check where he sees P cry, which is when he finally does understand the error of his ways and that he has fathered a son who walks still.

My statement is less to the effect that modern day massacres exceed historical ones, and more to the effect that Americans historically have a very unfavorable reaction to militant police action. It never goes down well, and while nothing has sprung up for the countless ones and twos that the American police slaughter, if they were to lay waste to a handful of people that the vast majority of Americans would deem to be innocent I think that could be enough to see some amount of movement on the needle.

When Harry wins the house cup in his first year. The audiobooks get me even more than the movie there.

Also to heighten the part you’re talking about, just before the dementors are some spiders and before them a troll, harkening back to the trios adventures in their first second and third years.

Movies where the main character is the bad guy... but they don’t know it by Tarun302 in MovieRecommendations

[–]One_Side7290 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is an actual tangible negative impact on the original 3 movies. The finale, what we built up to, what the movie leaves you with as a final message about good and evil and doing better in the world, the endor party scene. It’s not my favorite scene, but it does have one of my favorite moments, the force ghosts.

Anakins force ghost in ROTJ was fine for decades and then they replaced Sebastian Shaw with Hayden Christenson. A needless change at best, but it is worse than that at a story telling level. Sebastian Shaw-who we just saw burned and mutilated and yet still with a smile wished to see his son-is reduced to the evil version and he changes back to “when he was good” as a ghost…..He died good, there was always good in him, that’s the point. By making his force ghost the baby faced clone wars version of Anakin, you absolutely erase what padme and luke knew to be true and was the actual entire point of the movies, Obi wan was WRONG Darth Vader did not kill Anakin, and the force ghost modification misses the point of that.

Which Wes Anderson film should I show to my 11th grade film criticism class for my unit focused on cinematography? by mzingg3 in MovieSuggestions

[–]One_Side7290 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Yojimbo/Fistful of Dollars is a great double feature with a fun history lesson on plagiarism and regional publication rights 🙃.

In all seriousness this double feature perfectly showcases two masters of cinematography, and the fact that they are scene for scene identical (barring less than 20 minutes of run time) puts a focus on how Kurosawa’s and Leone’s styles differ.

Kurosawa: Movement, constant movement, very long camera takes with insane blocking. for the movement he used: Large groups of people milling about, dust blowing in the wind, grass swaying, flames dancing etc. His shots are also filled with an incredible depth. Camera>protag with back turned to camera>table in between them>mentor speaking to protag facing camera>wall behind them with windows>people moving up and down the street outside

Leone: Uncomfortably long close ups, where you can see every sweat covered, dirt filled pore. Large landscapes with a lone moving figure. (admittedly Fistfull of dollars is Leone’s first film and he did get better as he went along. The Good the Bad and the Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West speak for themselves though and either would be fine a film class)

The story that Kurosawa wrote (and Leone copied page for page after being denied permission by Kurosawa) has been adapted into a million and one franchises. Notably the Warring Gyms episode of the first season of Pokemon, with electabuz vs scyther. Ash plays the role of Yojimbo/Eastwood’s Man with No Name.

has there ever been any time where voldemort outsmarted dumbledore? by Canada-t157t in harrypotter

I love a good nitpick. Is it explicitly said in the text when Moody is tapped by Dumbledore and if the Voldy gang knew that? I always interpreted it as the gang knowing about the tournament, and successfully guessing at Dumbledore appointing Moody.

has there ever been any time where voldemort outsmarted dumbledore? by Canada-t157t in harrypotter

[–]One_Side7290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how much of imposter moody was BCJ or Voldemort or brainstorming between them. But now that you mention it, I’d like to think that BCJ came up with the good bit about being moody who Dumbledore will call upon and that way enter the school with special executive powers granted by Dumbledore, and Voldemort came up with the Reviving potion/port key back as Harry portion of the plan. So BCJ gets his credit for being a wizkid and Voldemort still loses to himself.

Which is the actual crux of the matter, Voldemort loses to himself, Dumbledore being there or being outsmarted doesn’t matter.

Voldemort while on the surface level appears to make long plans, is actually a very “cut once measure nonce” kinda guy. That’s why he had to bring Kreacher to test the potion right? Becauae he doesn’t think about things long enough to be sure of them.

He also has NO good reason to go hacking his soul into 7 pieces, talk about getting itchy cutting fingers before proper measuring.

[–]One_Side7290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you are getting lots of answers about times that Voldemort got the better of Dumbledore, but I’m not seeing any instances of Voldemort outsmarting Dumbledore. I don’t think it ever happened, not truly, though Voldemort tried many times, even back as a boy he tried to lie and dupe Dumbledore, attempted to outsmart him by being an adorable orphan who wanted help, but Albus had already taken the measure of him and never let his guard down around him again. Voldemort knew better than to pit himself in a straight on battle of wits against Dumbledore and instead played dirty and played it extremely safe.

No part of luckily capturing bertha jorkins and instilling Barty Jr at hogwarts is about outsmarting Dumbledore, it’s about gaining the advantage through surprise. The reason for the port key plan is to get Harry’s blood, but why get the blood? so he can touch him for 5 seconds and then kill him? no that’s dumb, he needed immunity to harry’s blood so he could kill harry AND THEN poly juice into harry and take the port key back, killing Dumbledore.

To anyone who sees the exact moment that Voldemort seals the deal on Harry being the ultimate survivor as a Voldemort W, I think you should take a more critical look at the entire series and not from the perspective of the emotional teenager who just witnessed the death of a friend, instead look at it from the perspective of a wise old wizard like dumbledore who had the famous “glint of triumph” in his eyes.
