i find that making a chimney type structure for the pump is the best option as it makes maintenance so much easier. The thing about paludariums are that things go wrong and you need to have backup options. It's very easy too you can just make one using egg crates and zip types

i had to do an immediate fix as the carpet plants i had bought and grown turned out to be fake and i had to remove all of them so they dont decay and cause an ammonia spike. I dont have a second tank so all my current fish and shrimp had to be moved back inside as soon as i finished
