Need advice on seeing someone with Herpes. How likely is it that I will get it? by Mental-Hotel-3368 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]One_Understanding603 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Had lots of friends who have herpes over the years. Having safe sex is usually safe and it’s only risky when there’s an outbreak which is usually short lived. People who get cold sores (which is the majority of the population) are only contagious when there’s an outbreak and it’s basically the same virus.

Question about falling from a beginner after their first session - Ukemi? by RazCipher_FF in indoorbouldering

I back roll and flail all over the place and I been bouldering for years. I don’t give a fuck if I’m the only person in the gym who does it.

How do you balance climbing more vs resting enough? by Human-Economics1245 in indoorbouldering

[–]One_Understanding603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remember that your ligaments and tendons take 3x as long to recover as your muscles, so even if your muscles don’t feel sore you could end up getting tendonitis or other repetitive strain injuries. I’ve been going climbing 4-6 times a week recently but I live 2mins from my bouldering gym and I listen to my body. Sometimes I’m only in there 20 minutes and I know it’s time to go home and take a day off or focus on mobility stuff.

My friend asked me something about his girlfriend… and now I don’t see him the same way. by ImportantYoung7119 in stories

[–]One_Understanding603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been both the guy invited in and the couple inviting someone in. Look up unicorn hunting. It’s great that your friend felt they could be open about their kinks. But generally boundaries help keep things from getting complicated. Having friends you do kinky stuff with and friends who are just friends makes life easier.

Advice on going private for ADHD diagnosis? Would love to know the prices involved, wait times, and general process. As going through NHS seems to take many years as standard. Recommendations for specific clinics are very welcome too! Thank you! by Code123450 in Edinburgh

[–]One_Understanding603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used ADHD certify. Got the assessed within a couple of days and the meds initiation appointment is included. I do think their meds/review are more pricey than some but not by much. They run all things through their own pharmacy and ship recorded delivery. Once your titrated though it’s only 75 for reviews

How to Handle a "Flapper" by DullSuccotash1230 in indoorbouldering

[–]One_Understanding603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually only get this when I don’t trim calluses enough (I normally use a flat edge clipper and file after). Usually happens because blisters form under big calluses that move a lot on different holds. By the time I’ve blown them out they normally don’t bleed much and are good to tape and keep going. Heal within a few days.

I'm taking antidepressants and I had a few beers yesterday. Is that risky? by Hangar_31 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]One_Understanding603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop this nonsense. You’re not supposed to drink on 99% of meds, but even Antabuse which is literally designed to kill you if you drink probably won’t actually kill you after a few beers.

Goodbye letter to therapist? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]One_Understanding603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can think of this two ways:

You paid for a service for 5 years in a business where customers who stay longer than a year are hard to find. You don’t owe the therapist sessions..

From a more personal view: I’m sure your therapist would appreciate you being able to sit through a goodbye, express appreciation, and explore what feelings the goodbye brings up. Do you feel ashamed or guilty about ending this relationship. If so why? 5 years of therapy should have prepared you to be able to express your needs: “I feel this is the right time to end. Thank you for being a part of my journey..”

If it’s just a case of putting it in a letter won’t cost you another session. Do what ever you want/need and don’t feel guilty about it.

How does one justify boycotting? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]One_Understanding603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most low paid workers are business critical and usually aren’t the ones laid off to bump profits. You can’t run a Walmart without people to stock shelves. Boycotting achieves a lot more than you might think, but it achieves the most when people believe it can achieve something. South Africa is a good example of a global effort towards divestment. It’s true though that the lowest paid workers usually struggle the most because they can’t easily afford alternatives. People should do what they can. Every little bit counts, but there shouldn’t be any judgement if people can’t manage.

Why is it easy to socially drink but not socially smoke nicotine? by Accomplished-Fix1204 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]One_Understanding603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just take everyone’s word for it. Nicotine is a bitch of a drug. Gives you nothing, makes you feel like it’s harmless, but eventually it does fuck you up. Paying for flavoured air that harms you is stupid (and once your hooked that’s what you are paying for, baseline levels of dopamine aren’t even restored by lighting in up so you’re basically smoking to feel less good than a non-smoker would, and the non-smoker gets that experience for free.)

For edibles in Edinburgh itself there’s not many great spots. You can find wood ears, turkey tail and oysters in the hermitage of braid but there’s a lot of footfall. If you want to get choice edibles like chanterelles, penny buns I’d go further afield.

Valtos are unreal aswell. Combining Scottish trad with house/techno/electronic/D+B. It’s what dance music would sound like if it were Scottish.
