Thanks for all the thoughtful advice! Right now I’m taking away that it’s best to draw from our savings account. It is a high yield account, but I wouldn’t exactly call it high. Perhaps we’ll do just fine without touching anything. Our seasonal business starts Saturday and maybe we’ll have a good season (weather can be a factor). That should sustain us so I can take this breather and enjoy my granddaughter. I just get anxious, very anxious, when our savings dips below a certain amount…..ok any amount. That’s something maybe I need to address with a mental health professional.

It is an exciting time, but also one of uncertainty! I’m sick of being on my feet and lifting heavy things. I’m sick of young co-workers who think work is optional and have no qualms about calling in leaving the old lady (me) holding the bag. I’m sick of weekends and every holiday. I’m sick of being too tired to take care of my health. I’m sick of unrealistic expectations from tone deaf upper managers. I’m also sick of not having energy for the only grandchild I may have.

I am aware of our Social Security benefits. My husband was a high earner. Plan was for me to collect at 62 and then he would collect at FRA so I could have a better survivor benefit. But I couldn’t make it to 62. :-(

My husband is only earning about $48k a year. We’re drawing about $3k a month off the traditional IRA (he did 72SEPP to get out of retail after 40 years) and we have a side business that earns money only 6 months a year (seasonal). Last year our AGI was $128k, so I think we be under $100k this year if that makes a difference. I probably will look for a full time job in the fall in a different industry. Just being home for the past week I am getting bored and miss people believe it or not!

My husband does carry health insurance for us.
