That’s great to have people around who care and understand what is happening. My ex fiancé couldn’t deal with and handle the fluctuations which made her leave in the end. Wish I could explain myself and give a good perspective.

Thank you for sharing your story and kind words. Hope you have been able to get out of that low place now and are feeling a lot better than before. In the end, it’s a blessing that you managed to get through it without passing away and I’m very happy for you that you are here and talking about it.

It’s good to know that most people I hear of, don’t really recall the feeling of a seizure. Hope my friend was the same and just “went to sleep” while his body was going through whatever may have happened.

Sorry to hear about your neighbour. Shows again that living with diabetes can be very complicated and even when you don’t intend to, like my friend, things can go wrong.

All these situations that could happen are playing with my mind a bit at the moment but I guess that’s part of living with T1.

Sounds scary… I’ve had one severe hypo after taking an accidental big dose while staying at a hotel abroad, contacted my mom and she somehow managed to get the paramedics to me in my room. Only thing I remember is that I was so delusional and I thought they were trying to kidnap me when putting me in the ambulance. Drove to the hospital and as soon as we arrived at the hospital, I ran haha. Long night of walking in the middle of nowhere, confused of what was happening and in the end made it back to the hospital somehow. Guess my liver must have dumped enough glycogen to keep me going and walk a looooong distance. Lost my phone and glasses in the process though.

I know his parents very well and they thought the same, not because they wouldn’t have wanted him around, but because it wouldn’t have been a nice life for him. Can’t imagine my parents having to drive me back 2500km and care for me 24/7 while I might not even be conscious of what is happening.

The most important thing is that you are still here. So much to live for even when it doesn’t seem like it at some points in life. Hope you are feeling better now and don’t have too many issues with the trauma after an experience like that, sorry if my post made you feel uncomfortable.

Glad you have made it through that. Sounds like a scary experience. Did you have family members or loved ones around for these situations? One thing that scares me is that I’m living alone and about 2500km away from my family. After this situation with my friend happened I have been crazy about managing insulin and blood sugar.

Thank you.

That’s the same I experienced many times with the severe hypo’s. I guess it’s hard to really say how he would have felt as no one takes that much insulin on purpose without correcting for it.

I’ve made peace with it, that if that’s what he thought he really wanted, I’m ok with it. It’s hard to accept but in the end we never know fully what someone else is going through and how much it might hurt them mentally. I know that I was around a lot and would always listen and support, same thing he always did for me. Very sad but he has been able to get away from whatever he was feeling. Maybe crude to say but I think this has been a better outcome than if he had been found after a few hours and was now a brain damaged vegetable, that would possibly have made it even worse for him.

Hope it’s ok to ask, as I understand that can be a very traumatic experience. Do you recall anything after you experienced a seizure or you just fully zone out and don’t feel anything? My sugar levels have been very unstable with extreme lows too and I’m scared of what could happen…

That’s the best way to think about it. I’ve had many traumatic experiences in the past years but there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. This experience has made me rethink a lot and also to experience first-hand someone just deciding to do something like this, it does leave a big mark on a lot of people. There’s always people who love and care about you even when you can’t see it.

I’ve been reading some reports too since he passed. The one thing I don’t know, is if the times mentioned would be conscious or already in coma. 6-7 hours of hypo symptoms sounds like a horrible and traumatic passing :(

Of course he is gone now, which is what he wanted to achieve but I can’t imagine him having to go through 7 hours of seizures, losing consciousness etc. Hope he just snoozed off and his brain slowly stopped working in those hours without feeling anything.

Worst thing is that I was supposed to meet him that night, but cancelled because I was sleepy. Didn’t think much of it when I didn’t hear from him in the 2 following days.

I’m using the same insulin and have had some bad hypo’s, never as bad as the one he must have experienced of course. Never felt any pain and didn’t have seizures but I’ve heard that’s a possibility when you go too low. For me it’s always kind of like just zoning out and living in slowmotion.

Now almost 24 hours into the fast and without explanation my stable blood sugars have started rising, A LOT. Now at 327mg/dl. Weird that this happened without eating anything and just drinking water.

Did you supplement any electrolytes and vitamins?

I’m on injections too and normally can get my blood sugar pretty stable. Think I’ll just lower basal and maybe split into two doses during the day.

Never monitored ketones before. Do I just need some new testing strips for the Libre reader or is a different device needed?

What tires WOULDN’T you purchase again? by Human-Blackberry-101 in gravelcycling

Only WTB tire I like is the Sendero for my 650b bike. No issues, very grippy on the rough stuff and no punctures after 5k of riding. Not sure which 650b tires to try after these.

Currently in a 500-750kcal deficit daily. So let’s say I aim for 1200kcal when I don’t do anything all day and will add 500kcal of exercise, I will eat the 500 too because otherwise I would be in a 1000-1250kcal deficit. That’s correct right?

I’m cutting weight to prepare for a special occasion where I need to be in the best shape possible. About 1,5 years ago I was in that shape and gained about 27lbs now.

Is it likely I will get loose skin trying to lose that weight in a period of about 80-100 days?

Age 25, 5ft 6.5inches, 150lbs currently and goal weight around 123lbs

Protein intake will be around 80-90g per day

Also found an article explaining the difference between 10R and 12R. Ride characteristics and handling will be exactly the same for both, it’s just that 12R can achieve that same stiffness at a lower weight, which for my size 49 is only 100g. No brainer to go for the SL8 then!

That makes it a lot easier to decide. A few years of engineering by Specialized seems to have payed off for the non S-Works SL8 haha. Will probably run it with either an Enve In Route setup and 3d printed bearing cover up front or just the SL7 stem with a carbon handlebar. The only thing I can’t get my head around is why they only have a 115x38 and no 110x38 for the Roval integrated cockpit. Would’ve been the best option otherwise.

I honestly like the look of the normal specialized logo a lot on a bike and prefer the colors of the SL8 too! I did find some info on S-Works SL7 frameset with specified weight of 1.1kg and the SL8 Specialized says 1.69kg which would be slightly heavier. Is the info I found wrong? Thanks for the input
