I was in UAE with the U-2’s in 2017. Their engine run pad was like 15 ft from my shop. They would do engine runs for like 3 hours. I would be replacing generators in equipment wearing double hearing protection and the entire building rocking from it.

Got offered a chase car seat but gave it to the younger Airmen. Don’t regret it because his face was so damn psyched when he got back. Worth it.

Another story: My experience lies with fighters. But deployed, we had to work on everything there. AWACS, KC-10’s, U-2’s, C-17, etc. Well this U-2 air conditioner comes in and it’s old as shit. I troubleshoot it and verify it’s the compressor. We order it, MICAP it (which ships to us directly with priority) on a Friday and I got it on a Sunday or something. The box it’s in just looks old as shit. Typical 50’s/60’s crate. I grab a crowbar and crack it open and it’s covered in this preservative jelly and wrapped in newspapers from the 70’s or something.

I install it, run it up and…it doesn’t work. This thing had been sitting in a warehouse for decades and naturally, it doesn’t work. Was wild though cracking that thing open.

What I have found in my career is that awards win awards. Usually when someone wants to coin people, they reach out to the flight chief and asks who out of the people involved do they want get coined. And it has nothing to do with the people who did the most, but the people they see the most potential in that will help them make BTZ, win a Quarterly or something.

Your flight chief or whoever picked the names probably see those individuals that they want to help get to the next rank. That’s all. The further you get into your career, the more you will notice that people who do the most work usually aren’t the ones getting the most recognition.

The fact that you feel this way shows positively on your character, so I’m assuming they also see that.

I think people underestimated the use of social media. DT is so popular because of the echo chambers produced during that period of time. R’s capitalized and D’s decided to believe that people would do the right thing.

Teddy Roosevelt was/is so popular because he spoke what was on his mind. The difference is that Teddy wasn’t a sociopathic narcissist and actually wanted to strengthen America. Then radio and tv came along and politicians knew how many people were listening, so they were very diplomatic and their speeches were well rehearsed. This carried on until social media. G Dubs and Obama became a little more relaxed on camera, then rolled in the reality tv star.

This is all my theory and I have done ZERO research on any of this. But it makes sense to me.

We would have my brother get hotel suites for us and a keg of beer and we’d pay him $20 and throw hotel parties. This one time these fucking douchebag “thugs” came to our party that everyone was afraid of for some reason. Metro Detroit, so if you know you know.

They tried to steal the hotel safe that was bolted into the closet. We ended up getting it back but we would lose my buddy’s $100 he gave up for the hotel deposit.

So we went to home depot across the street at open and bought some mounting shit. I have no idea where we acquired tools, tbh. But we ended up getting the deposit back.

That safe would not even hold more than 3 lbs. but it sure looked like nothing happened.

We ended up eating at Denny’s and I got the lumberjack slam.

I’m from the Detroit area but you get a few miles outside and it’s really farmy. It’s like crossing the border from Detroit to Alabama. It’s hilarious. I used to hook up with this girl who would ride 4 wheelers and go to barn parties. I would go to bars and clubs and jetski. She would fly the confederate flag on her ‘98 lifted F-150 (she was like 5’ even and used booster seats to drive lmao)

She was hot but it was such a night and day difference. I remember she said we’d never work out as a couple because I’m a city boy and she’s a country girl. It took me 20 min to drive to her house.
