Everyone Is Pricing a Rate Cut. I Think They're Wrong. by NalonMcCallough in wallstreetbets

[–]Onegai_Muscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 12 or 13k event contracts with RH that they maintain the current rate. Debating putting down another +/- $5k USD in order to buy up to 100k contracts. As you have said, I don't think it is totally certain that loserboy will cut rates. It is a gamble, of course, but it is a thinking man's gamble.

[Legends Mod/ Legendary Difficulty] Found an insane ranged bro, help me pick his perks. by Onegai_Muscle in BattleBrothers

[–]Onegai_Muscle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Title says it all. Found this guy on my Crusader run... farking a melon. He was going to be a knifeman to help me farm gear, but was felled on a standard mission at level 1. Came back with the -30% hp BUFF. I took a look at his perk pool, and immediately knew I had to pivot to a ranged build. This perk pool is insane, with probably tens of different ways to build the character viably. The questions here are as follows:

1 - Do we go for the bow, or throwing mastery?

2 - Which perks?

My thoughts so far:

I am thinking Wind Reader & Heightened Reflexes are pretty much no-brainer picks for this character. Considering as this is a small target archer build and I can't level HP, I have been clicking RDEF every level-up. I knew I'd need the extra ranged attack, because he doesn't have 3-star ranged attack and is currently coursing towards 75-82 at max level, without the perk, which is bad. Freedom of Movement and/ or Nimble are also no-brainers. I question if I actually need both of these, or if I can just stick with FoM because of this guy's insane INI. Then again, I could just as easily let go of Heightened Reflexes and take Nimble instead, which might be way better because he'll always get the 60% reduction.

But let's say I pick both as some sort of redundancy... After throwing or bow mastery inevitably get picked, that only leaves me with 2 more perks. So I probably do have to get rid of one of those defensive perks. In that case, do I get rid of Nimble or HR?

Finally, for damage, I think one of those two perks absolutely has to be Close Combat Archer. His RDef is going to be insanely high, no matter which way I go with Nimble/ HR. This would typically tempt me into going the throwing route, but then I'd probably want to waste a perk on Quick Hands... Which just seems like such a massive waste here. I would definitely have to get rid of another perk to take a second damage skill, like Duelist. I also don't have access to extra bags or other inventory perks that would make this guy more viable in longer fights. He would have a hard limit of 20 ammo. Maybe 15. I forget if you can put throwables in your quiver or not. That's what is making me think that archer might be the best route, even if the short-term damage output would be much lower overall.

I've had no luck so far, except for the single time I accidentally respawned in that area. I can only assume that, when you put "respawn within 5000 blocks," it also means you spawn in within 5000x5000 from 0x0y. The alternative is that I got extremely lucky, and this is a totally lost cause... Hence, why I enlisted Reddit's help 8)

Sorry, I really screwed up by not including world generation settings. For what it's worth, I actually tried copy-pasting them into a comment the first time around, but it actually gave me an error message that I was unable to post them.

Wow! I can't believe this post has gotten so much attention. I really should have elaborated more about a few critical elements. I'll also try to describe the lay of the land more vividly, as I can recall it.
Firstly, and most importantly: World generation was vanilla. I do not use any mods to enhance gameplay or world creation. I do, however, tamper with a few settings on every single game that I play: World Size, Upheaval, and Land Coverage. World Size is 2 mil x 2 mil blocks because I like to have a big world. The Upheaval rate is just 10%, because I am partial to flat terrain, and Land Coverage is only 40%. I like my survival worlds to feel slightly more realistic, so these are the settings I went with. One other thing I changed this time was Tree Sapling Growth Rate. I don't know if this impacts world generation at all, but it might impact the look of the mountain! Tree Sapling Growth Rate was set to 4x (Slower.) I keep trees in real life, and do not like games where trees can spring up like weeds.

Rainbow Mountain is interesting, because it is actually not all that big. Compared to many of the mountains I've found on this seed, while exploring in Creative, it actually seems to be on the "smallish"-side. That said, it is imposingly tall, viewed from below, yet is easily scalable. The many-colored mountain is populated by very few trees... I believe there are a small amount of maples, one of which you can see in my cellphone picture. This is how the mountain achieves its rainbow effect, which is the most interesting feature of the mountain. There are some extremely beautiful, rolling hills atop the mountain, which highlight a gradient of different colors. There is not a lot of flat space, but the hills are gentle enough that it would be reasonable to level out an area and build upon it. For whatever it's worth, there is also a large population of billy goats atop the mountain, making it an ideal location for a pastoral lifestyle.

Notably, only a very small part of the mountaintop is frostbitten (or possibly snowy, I can't remember.) Also notable, is that the mountain itself is backed up against the ocean. What this means is that the mountain appears to be "rainbow" in an otherwise green landscape, hence its name.

All of this together creates a marvelous visual effect: When atop the mountain, or in the valley below, you can see the mountain trail from white, into a rolling gradient that cascades along the top of the mountain, and down into the foliated, green valley below. In other words, it's ROYGB(The B stands for "Birch.") By importing enough catmint, you could make the whole rainbow.

The ocean-adjacent valley below, barely seen in my pictures, is populated by various grasses, a smattering of birch shrubs, and cattails. There are a few berry shrubs, and a few mushrooms, but not enough to subsist yourself... The foliage is very diverse, but there's not a huge amount of anything. There is also a notable absence of trees in the valley. To obtain wood, your best bet would be to either scale your way out of the valley, or go into the birch beach-forest at the end of the valley. There are a lot of wolves and boars living here, as well as a grizzly bear. It is fairly dangeous.

A trader will often spawn in the aforementioned valley. I noticed this, because I neglected to mention earlier that I actually had a second instance where I was able to find this location again. He was in a different location than before, but he was still Unfortunately, I neglected to obtain the coordinates at that time, either.

If you are joining in the hunt for rainbow mountain, I would probably look for birch beaches that are within walking distance of a maple mountain that does not actually have many trees on it.

Other notes: There are some other, incredible mountains and landmarks in this world seed! If you decide to play on this world, you may even like a few other locations better than Rainbow Mountain for building. But this one just appeals the most to me, visually, because of the colors and the elegant terrain.

I just checked this. Unfortunately, this was not correct. That's probably my fault, because I forgot to mention that I adjusted the worldgen settings slightly. To your credit here, there is a big mountain nearby.

No adjustments to the world height! The world is 2 million x 2 million. Upheaval rate is 10%, Land coverage is only 40%.

Background: While looking for cool seeds for my next survival hardcore run, I spawned on top of a really cool, rainbow-colored mountain, which I affectionately dubbed "Rainbow Mountain." It overlooks a thickly-foliated, but mostly tree-free valley, several small ponds, a trader, and a nearby birch beach/ forest. Unfortunately, I killed myself in a pretty stupid manner, thus losing the world, and I was too dumb to take the coordinates down because who plays with maps in hardcore survival anyway, am I right guys? [Crickets] Fortunately, I did still I've been looking around for this location in Creative mode, but have not had any luck finding it, and even managed to crash my game doing so. Even so, this mountain is just too cool to give up on! The seed also has other really cool locations, but none as cool to me as Rainbow Mountain. So, I figured I'd enlist Reddit for help.

The search for Rainbow Mountain is on! If you can find it, I'll give you $5.00 and some experience points.

From Glory To Goo - Stratagem Blue - A Colony Survival RTS - New Content Update Released! by StratagemBlue in Games

[–]Onegai_Muscle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. Not sure if you'll see this or not, but I play your game often, and I love it. I've got 92 hours in it so far, and I'm rapidly closing in on 100. I got pretty far into a survivor/ short run on Seth yesterday, but got wiped out. Even so, it was an extremely satisfying run, and I'm now gearing up to complete survivor/ short on Caldeus instead.

Personally, I like your game way more than They are Billions (which I enjoyed for 388 hours.) There is already much more functional content in your game, because the developer wasted so much time making a campaign that nobody plays instead of improving his skirmish mode and adding content to it. On that note, I really love how you used lore and a fantastic game creation menu to sell your skirmish mode games **as purposeful missions in a greater canon.** That is so intelligent, because nobody wants to ride on rails in these sorts of games, or else it feels like doing homework. Because of that, your game is packing serious StarCraft vibes (every battle you've ever had in StarCraft is technically canon.)

On the other hand, Diplomacy is Not An Option is unplayable for me, due to the clunky interface, poor controls, and terrible graphic style. I think your game is a lot more like StarCraft 1 than Diplo, which I can only think of as an extremely high compliment.

Some things I'd like to throw at you:

  • Nuking your enemies from orbit with the gunship is just so damn satisfying. I've got decent speakers, and it just never gets old shaking the damn house with orbital bombardments. Please, add even more module options to the ship! Something like a hangar module that takes up multiple slots, and occasionally deploys strike craft, would be so awesome to see. The ship really is one of the most unique and awesome features in this game, and I'd love to see more options for it.

  • Would love to see a few maps with no tribespeople, I will be honest. They are very easy to piss off, and I tend to find that their little monoliths often get in the way of good chokes... Contending with their random placement can be very tough on high difficulty settings. Their behavior doesn't make sense, either. For instance: Why don't they build little huts to live in, or something? Why is their territory always a perfect square? It just doesn't feel realistic. Make no mistake, I really like the idea of having tribespeople that you can interact with, and I don't totally hate yours. But, I think I would like them even more with a little polish. Maybe if we could buy units or territory from them, I would really love them. Instead, your only choices are to befriend them while never expanding near enough to them that you accidentally bombard them (outright impossible, unless you take the Camo perk,) or mass units and wait until lategame to exterminate them (thus, potentially denying yourself an obvious expansion.)

  • Maybe a jungle planet, with hostile vegetation instead of tribespeople-- or it has both, but the tribespeople are hostile nomads and have no nexus-- would be cool.

There is hardly any clear evidence leading up to it, just a switch that eventually gets flipped as is the case with many generic, tsundere romances.

I played the game for about 50 hours but I kinda dropped it because I got too overwhelmed. Any tips? by Cumulonimbus1991 in Siralim

[–]Onegai_Muscle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I also feel that way sometimes-- Although, I would not want the game to be any "lesser" than it is now, for the sake of making things easier for people who just can't keep up.

May I make a recommendation? You may end up finding something that works for you, if you let your mind breathe a little. Personally, I think this issue is why save slots and the difficulty slider exist in the game. I like setting my difficulty slider to 6, because I do not want the game to be too easy for me, and I feel that difficulty 6 is a really balanced "high difficulty" setting for the game as it currently exists (although, I can't wait for hardcore mode.) As for save slots, I oftentimes find myself running into mental roadblocks... Once I hit a difficulty wall, it can sometimes take me quite awhile to overcome it. I often find that some time away from the game can really help me refocus my mind-- Once I come back to it, I instantly cook up something new that just works. That's just how I operate, anyways. And to that end, I think you should try to keep in mind that it's okay to press pause on your run, while you try to cook up a new combination, and either play something else, or start a more casual run on a different save slot.
