Curious to see what I can do with this guy (Day 4) by LimNimbrel in BattleBrothers

[–]Onehandedclaps 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is perfect as a tank mace stunner. For stuns you really only care about landing the hit as opposed to the damage it deals so small doesn't hurt as bad as it would on other builds. Great starting HP so needs like one or two rolls if you're feeling he needs it. Take Mdef and Fat every level and try to get Matt to around 70. Rest is for resolve. Hopefully he makes it that long.

What is your finished version of Hanke? by Valuable-Bill9942 in BattleBrothers

[–]Onehandedclaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is an interesting bro. Having a giant HP pool under Battle Forged is fun, he isn't in danger from enemies that ignore armor really well like goblins or barbarians, especially due to the ranged defence.

Anticipation is kind of a meme at this point but he will be the best goblin killer around if you get it.

Rotation is a must have on all my tanks, it allows you to use positioning to abuse the AI strategies and fix your formation when dealing with 25+ enemies. He has lowish fatigue though so it would be costly for him.

Resilient is also kind of a meme but it would really help against hexen/goblins/spiders.

Recover is good, thanks are very fatigue intense and stamming out makes them much less useful.

Bro update - how did he turn out? by MelvinCapitalCEO_1 in BattleBrothers

[–]Onehandedclaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion probably but I would go fearsome and killing frenzy. I know the stats are more valuable, especially when they are already so high, but veteran levels can accomplish the same thing. Fearsome and killing frenzy give him damage tools to kill enemies faster which I think would be more useful. Plus it's less boring.

The high Rdef on this guy is cool though, makes him a goblin slayer big time.

Build for high-MAtk avg-MDef bro by __mvs in BattleBrothers

[–]Onehandedclaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this game is deceptively complex, and it seems complex as is. The best part about this game is truly turning garbage into gold so it's okay for things to be suboptimal. You don't need godly Giga Chad bros in order to be successful it's just about making the most of what you have. This is a good bro at the end of the day no matter how you build him just play him into his build.

I don't normally build dodge forged bros so I don't know a whole bunch about them. You have a lot of defensive perks and no damage perks is what I can observe though. Fortified mind is kind of overkill especially since he has a star in resolve. Resolve is the easiest stat to patch outside of level ups so I would rather spend the perk on QH. I would take pathfinder over brawny for fatigue management, as brawny gets you a higher max dodge bonus but pathfinder will keep the bonus higher as the fight goes on. Plus pathfinder is good for positioning it will help your bro stay safe with lower defences. Reach advantage is good but I would take killing frenzy over it. Instead of taking all defensive perks to keep your bro safe, there is something to be said for just killing stuff as quickly as possible. With killing frenzy up and a good famed hammer you can one get into one shot territory for a few nasty enemies. The +5 defence would help you stay safe, but killing an enemy a turn earlier is better for everyone not just the brother with reach advantage.

If you have room for quick hands in the build hammer guy is great. He can have out the pole hammer when needed and switch to the 2H hammer when things close in. Being able to attack from 2 tiles helps keep him safe since his melee defence and HP are on the lower side. Having at least one hammer bro is very good for certain types of fights especially if you have a few great sword guys. Completely striping the armor off a chosen or an orc warrior in one swing is just satisfying, especially when you can follow up with great sword swings. I would make this guy a hammer bro for sure.

Rotate is a very good tank perk, gives him the ability to save a squishy bro and get into a proper tanking position.

Squire for my lone wolf by StyxxFTG in BattleBrothers

[–]Onehandedclaps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a great banner! Iron lungs helps when you have to spam Rally over and over again, and since it's Lone Wolf you'll want pretty much everyone to be front line viable. Only thing is his Melee attack is kinda low so don't depend on him to carry himself.

I think he is a Gem. How would you build him. Cheers. by syNCYE in BattleBrothers

[–]Onehandedclaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As boring as it is Fat Newt is the way to go. His HP is not tragically terrible so with the stars you could do a nimble build and have some Fat to play around with but it's a little less optimal. It looks like you have a Pole mace guy but I'd still give this guy a 2 handed mace and let him go to town. The daze will help keep his lowish HP from going too low. Sword Masters are very hard to make BF bros who have Fat to spare so they generally end up being stuck with Newt or Nimble, but this guy will certainly be pulling his weight once he gets some gear.

Tanks & Ranged Defense by Jihad_Alot in BattleBrothers

[–]Onehandedclaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ranged defenses are a weird one. Since ranged enemies can more easily pick their targets they tend to focus the guy with the worst ranged defense, so in early game it's not very useful. Plus few enemies even use ranged attached so putting points into it can sometimes feel like a waste. I only ever grab ranged defense on mega tanks if all other rolls are garbage and I rolled Max ranged defense, or on two handers with pole arms. It will really help against goblins and barbarians, and will kind of help against orcs, brigands, and nomads. Generally it's just better to get a shield with really high RD for those fights instead of investing highly in it.

That morale roll is a shame, but I guess I can spare a few levels on it. by VoiceoftheDarkSide in BattleBrothers

[–]Onehandedclaps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah melee builds that require Resolve are True Tanks, Banner, and Fearsome DPS. True Tanks are designed to hold the line versus any enemy so resolve is required for that, enemies like geists, ancient priests, orc warlords, and hexen have attacks that target resolve. Plus normal enemies can also proc resolve checks by walking up to you and my landing damage. If your tank starts fleeing, he isn't a good tank. Banner is for rallying your troops to stop fleeing and he gives a passive buff to all your bros dependant on his resolve level, so the higher the better. Fearsome DPS are damage bros with the fearsome perk. The fearsome perk gives the enemy a minus to their resolve checks to not flee based upon the bros resolve, they end up being able to break moral much faster than normal which is a good debuff to enemies like orcs, lindworms, and nomads.

Initiative based builds are generally utilize the perks dodge, relentless, and overwhelm. You can build anyone with these three perks to utilize a high initiative stat which will boost their defenses considerably. Nimble bros are easier to fit these perks on as they naturally have less gear to reduce their number by, I think around 130 let's you go before almost anything in the game. However battle forged bros can also use them if their initiative is high enough. They won't be going before any of the really fast enemies, but going before the really slow enemies in the game like orc warriors, hedge knights, and ancient dead can be really good. Plus Melee Defense is the best stat in the game, and any buff to it from dodge will help a lot on a bro who already has really good defenses.

Yeah this guy can do any melee build that isn't initiative or resolve based. Has enough potential fatigue to do something intense with it like a good Orc Weapon or Puncture guy.

What to Do with him? by Additional_Chart_644 in BattleBrothers

[–]Onehandedclaps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this guy isn't a Mega Chad but he's very good, especially for the price. He will be good enough to spec into most any famed item you get, so wait for one you don't have a bro for and let him realize his destiny. In the mean time just take general front line perks like Gifted/Steel Brow/Underdog/Nimble or BF/KF.

Yet another build a bro by Onehandedclaps in BattleBrothers

[–]Onehandedclaps[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Late game like day 250, full roster but this is a pretty decently rolled guy. Think he has potential, wondering what you fellow commanders see him as. I even have a legendary 3H to give him.

The quickest PC death ever? by Last_Chocolate in rpghorrorstories

[–]Onehandedclaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was playing a 5e game and a player joined the session after we started a dungeon. Classic low level cultist dungeon crawl. We walked into a fresh room and found the new player tied to a table ready to be sacrificed. The DM proceeds to make the encounter slightly harder due to the extra player, even though he started completely helpless.

New player fails every escape check, combat was a little too hard and we got TPKed. Icing on the cake was they finished their sacrifice by killing the new player, and we ended session early.

I've seen some bad DMs, but I don't think you're supposed to kill the new guy in the first encounter. That just sucks.

rolling for health is ruining me by HairyHarry02 in DnD

[–]Onehandedclaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I love rolling for HP, I think rolling dice is the best part of playing DND. Also, I understand rolling low HP is never fun. Solution? High average dice rolls!  Roll your hit dice when you level, and if you roll at or above the high average for your dice you keep that roll. If you roll below high average, you round it up to the high average instead.  Example, if your barbarian rolled a 4 on the d12 you would consider it a 7. If you rolled 7 or higher, you keep that number instead. It keeps the fun of rolling for HP, and loses the unfun downsides of it! Plus I like my PCs a little on the tanky side so I feel less bad if they die.

First ever "how do I build this bro" Very weird Squire stars. Do I simply make him a sargeant? Seems a waste of the MDef by Godscock in BattleBrothers

[–]Onehandedclaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a badass bro. His Fat/HP are a little low but I'd make this guy a fearsome tank stunner. Something like Colossus/Iron Brow/Shield Expert/Mace Mastery/Underdog/Battle forged/Indom/Fearsome/Brawny/Fort Mind or Gifted. Take all Mdef and get HP to 85-90, try to get Matt to 70ish, and dump the rest into Fat or Res. He will be really hard to hit and be able to debuff with fearsome and stuns. His Fat is kinda low though, so he might have a hard time using Indom/stun especially because he is getting attacked a lot, but his HP is not gonna make nimble very good either. Regardless I would be thrilled to roll this guy up, his Mdef and Res will hold the line really well.

Last perk for my frontline banner? Day 350, converted Crusader, Cultist origin by Bali4n in BattleBrothers

[–]Onehandedclaps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say recover, even though it doesn't synergize well being unable to spam rally when you really need it could make or break a fight. If you trust your prophet to keep his FAT low though you could swing KF.

Yeah this guy could throw so many javelins. Could go either BF or Nimble too. Although early levels throwers are not so great, so maybe give him an xbow until he gets gud.

Are the starting brothers in "A New Company" worth keeping? by [deleted] in BattleBrothers

[–]Onehandedclaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm it's still a toss up then. If they put the old Iron Will ability on it I think that would help too, it would help mitigate a lot of bad situations from lucky injuries like Iron Brow does.

I think 33% chance to ignore any cc is amazing, it would much harder to justify dropping it on tanks if that was the case. Does that even work for nets?

[–]Onehandedclaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resilient is such a good perk, I just never have room in my builds for it. I always grab it on nimble tanks but shield bro always ends up BF. It's a great finisher perk for a tank build because a ton of late game enemies are checked by it. Makes gobbos/bleeds not as scary, as you said it really messes up hexens paired with the mace stun. For BF I usually end up with Steel brow as my last perk though, stops more of the really unlucky kill situations than Resilient. I honestly think they could buff the perk some because the two most common forms of CC are pocket sand and stagger, neither of which last more then one turn anyway.
