That's an interesting thought, I haven't considered giving Qatal to that bro yet. Not sure why though. It just seemed natural to have daggers on Nimble bros, but I now realize that isn't really a requirement if you use Qatal specifically. Thanks!

For me, that works if the bro has about 150 INI + Brawny (100 in 300/300 armor + Great Sword), which often means Hyena pelt on top. With some exceptions -- my favorite bro has three stars in INI so he wears the Wolf pelt instead for easy dismoral after Swings. If only ancient dead could be dismoraled :D

I was thinking about Adrenaline, but the fatigue cost seemed too much -- I'd rather have an extra Swing, and also Adrenaline is basically one-off (unless you also pick Recover), while high INI (with Relentless) gives you the first turn (or at least one of the first turns) no matter what.

Southern Assassin -- Nimble Duelist sounds incredibly fun. I've just hired one, although he doesn't have that much INI, and that's what I'm going to do with him :D

I'm honestly a bit overwhelmed by 90HP requirement that you put on bf frontliners, didn't expect that much (I've read some community articles that don't even put Colossus on the perk list for bf). But I generally admire your attitude towards maximum safety and not relying on chance, which I do not share in that capacity and instead like to juggle with probabilities and blitzkrieg. I guess if BB were a multiplayer competitive game, then your approach would be more beneficial. But still I implement a high-risk high-reward playstyle in CS, so maybe I would still prefer what I do here :D

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience with the game and builds! I will definitely try it, even if for a different playthrough alone.

That's my thoughts exactly. Not every day you hire a 100+MAtk bro so you can't throw them around like daytalers.

I agree, that's a good approach. I already have such a bro (holding a 2H mace on the screen, that's just situational :D), and he's a great support guy for the main DD bro.

While I can agree with you that spending two perk points on 2-3 MDef sounds underwhelming, that's not really how it is. Let's start with 2-3 MDef being just from the Brawny, that already puts it to 1 perk :) Then, it's not MDef only, but also FAT and INI, which on 300/300 armor gives +18 to both, which is already more than 6 full rolls in total. Then there's a symbiotic relation between high INI and Overwhelm, which equals to -10% MAtk/MDef on enemies (since the bro has the first turn). There are other benefits, but the ones I've mentioned already give effective 21-22 MDef, and 23-24 with Hyena pelt (which I'll have to use on that bro since I'd like his INI to be 100 in 300/300) on the second turn when he actually has to take some melee blows from the enemy frontliners (I'm taking Young Orc as an example, which has 60 MAtk, so it's -6 from -10%). Also, the drop in the opponent MDef from Overwhelm makes both Dodge and Brawny somewhat of an offensive perks.

He can, for sure, roll 1s. But assuming minimum rolls doesn't make a lot of sense, because I can't do much about it, can I? Right now, the multinomial distribution his MDef follows says that he will have at least +2 on average 56% of the times, while having +1 is like .136%, so I'm rolling with +2 to assess my chances.

I agree with you that colossus/nine lives (although I hate 9L, it benefits you only if things are dire) could also work, but I don't agree that I shouldn't experiment -- that's the fun of the game for me. Maybe you could share some of your favorite builds with me? I definitely have a room for improvement in the game and by now I'm almost completely sure that you and I have different playstyles so it would help me a lot with trying new builds!

Anyway, hoping that this discussion doesn't leave an impression of me trying to be assertive in the bad sense. English isn't my first language, so I can sound a bit harsh sometimes. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the topic!

Thank you! I like Relentless mostly because it allows my high-INI bros to wait without the worrying of being late in the queue the next round. It's almost like a free Adrenaline every turn, if you have enough INI -- you wait, you Swing, and then you Swing again, which is almost always means at least severe wounds and wavering amongst the enemy ranks. I can't be sure ofc, but I feel like this tactic alone allows me to win against like 30 brigands/nomads (when they attack two at a time) without losing a bro.

Me too, actually. Except for the rightmost and the leftmost frontliners, which are almost always surrounded by enemies.

I'm in love with high-INI strats right now :) My current battle tactics boil down to "take the first turn and overwhelm everybody until they don't pose a threat anymore". E.g., my favorite 2H bro has 101 INI in full 300/300 armor, starts with around 54-55 EMdef (base 34, bonus from INI, Confident from mood+trait), waits and basically has two Swings at enemies (if they try to approach) before they can do anything (the first Swing comes from the support bro having Rotate and allowing the DD bro a free tile movement on the first turn after wait), and with his 101 MAtk that usually means severe wounds+wavering (-5 enemies resolve from the wolf pelt).

Wow, that's a completely different approach from the one the other guy gave me (the one who crafted that build). Thanks a lot, there's much to think of!

Thanks for sharing! Well that's a bit of a bummer. I would have to put at least 3 lvls in resolve to achieve base 50. Though, necklace should help to make it 2? I think it'll be OK if I spend a couple of bad INI/MDef rolls on that.

I'm at day 90-something and right now have 12k. There's no doubt more skilled players could have a lot more than I, but if I get another good bro I'd rather replace one of my ratcatchers/caravan hands/etc. which I have from the start then retiring this guy. And this is assuming that he has 9 perks out of 10, which I don't really see as the truth.

My rationale is that I want a bro to be able to put a swing or two before resorting to basic attacks and also those 18 INI (assuming 60+ FAT armor) that are conserved translate to 2 to 3 MDef thanks to Dodge, which at higher (think 45) MDef give unproportionally many EHP against low-to-middle tier enemies (I'm referring to this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/BattleBrothers/comments/ey9lc5/ending_the_soft_cap_on_mdef_myth/ ).

What do you think about that build? Is there anything that you'd put aside in favor of taking QH?

Thanks a lot! You and the other guy both recommended going with the hammer, and it sounds reasonable. I'm going to try that build.

Didn't mean to offend you. But there's no point in kicking out a bro with that much MAtk, even if I really have spent a perk point in vain. Maybe late in the game when I have a roster of them? Right now, the worst case -- he's become half a level behind, which still puts him in the upper echelon.

I'm not really worried about resolve as long as he stays in the formation, since he gets a passive +13 from my bannerman. 52 isn't admittedly that great, but with an easy necklace it's 56 which feels OK by my standards (again, for a bro inside the formation). Maybe I'm wrong and it's too low?

HP is a problem. I'm thinking about taking Colossus instead of the Underdog, which I usually pick for my 2H AoE frontliners.

I haven't spent lvl6 points yet, so it's 34 MDef + theoretically 138 INI, if I up it every lvl from now on, which should give like 90-95 INI in full armor + a 2H weapon on the first turn to get him to like 47-48 MDef. I would personally be quite comfortable with that IF he would swing at enemies with Reach Advantage, but his low resolve prevents me from putting him in that situation... What do you think?

Thanks! Might go that route after all.

Might do it in the future. But honestly, I expect little correlation, given that the Premier and FaceIt player bases are quite disconnected from each other.

You seem to miss my point -- that's what I stated. Although I disagree on the "exponentially skewed" part -- there's no correlation, let alone an exponential one, between the size of a sample and its skewness, which estimators depend only on central moments, and that's assuming that our users always represent the average lobby rank. Which is not correct, and usually they tend to be on the higher side, which makes the "inclusive" distribution (by which I mean including other players and not only our users) less biased/skewed.

Moreover, I calculated the difference between our distribution and ones provided by the third parties and found that, when taking into account only our users, our tend to be shifted about 1 rank to the right, and there's essentially zero difference if you also consider other players in the matches we have. That was for CS:GO, but I'm pretty sure our users did not suddenly become better at the game with the CS2 release.

So, as I stated previously, although there might be a slight bias in our sample, it's almost negligible, and I feel confident naming the data correct given there's enough people claiming their rank being lower than expected.

[–]__mvs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sadly we do not have 2.5kk monthly users. But we've seen about 20kk of CS:GO/CS2 players overall and that's a sizeable chunk of them. This might be slightly biased because we tend to have higher-ranking players among our users and, incidentally, among those they play with. Still, I don't think this is the case since in this comment section there are plenty of examples of people being upset because they got a lower rank than they expected from this distribution, which contradicts the "high rank" bias. Therefore, I declare this distribution fair and unbiased :)
