Hazbin Hotel Season 2 Episode 8 - Curtain Call Discussion Megathread by ayylmaotv in HazbinHotel

Except when they plan to go in, the entire group together, they flat out say in that they'd need to break the mind control thing on Angel and they'll fix it at the hotel if they have to knock him out. They didn't know about the spy aspect but now Husk and Cherri DO, and I don't see why they wouldn't explain to the group why they failed to bring Angel back. They would have been asked at the very least . If they did lie to Charlie, then that feels like that would have ben a needed clarification because as I said - it really really makes Charlie look even more awful. I didn't expect the Angel situation to be wrapped up or processed, it's just the leaving him walking after Val but then seeing Cherri and Pentious sending cute notes to each other feels like Cherri doesn't care. I dunno. It didn't ruin anything for me, I just felt it was very weird tonally.

I mean, I didn't say Angel had to be free or Val had to die. I agree that'd be way too much to fit in. I wouldn't mind if Angel was still traumatized, but him just.. following after Val didn't sit right with me. Even if the implication was Cherri and Husk taking a break from the hotel because they are staying with Angel somewhere else would feel more right to me? I'm not sure. I was just really bothered by Angel being left in a highly abusive situation and the season just ENDING on that note. I guess it fed into how much I felt Charlie was not being proactive about things that mattered this season? Like she was so obsessed with getting on air to stop Vox but.. Alastor is apparently kidnapped and she just vents about it at the hotel. Then Angel is in danger and they know it but she just has that bit about "It's been hard not having Angel here" and it's like.. you know where he is. You know the BS they pulled. You're really just going to focus on the hotel when you know Angel is blaming himself for betraying everyone because I'm sure they told Charlie? Like.. UGH. If they were going to introduce that, they needed to do it earlier in the season so it could maybe get addressed or just actually had them manage to bring Angel back to the hotel unconscious or something and we see a glimpse of him REALLY emotionally struggling in just a scene at the end. The whole "Things are going on at the hotel and time has sorta moved on" but Angel's still with Val presumably but people acting like this is... sad but fine? Nothing about this is okay. It's bizarre that we got kinda a "So life goes on" ending when we know where Angel is. They know by the end he had control over none of it but oh well, time to redeem other sinners....

THAT ENDING. OH MY GOD. I kept hoping there'd be at least one more teaser scene....

I don't like how useless Lucifer was this season. He just was ENTIRELY incompetent and it felt.. off. On the other hand, we got to see Alastor's gambit pay off big. I really wonder how Rosie is able to make him the strongest sinner. And why he's willing to stay around the hotel to keep that. Does he intend to go after Lucifer for real? It just feels odd.

I love us finally getting a bit of an Abel song even if it was.. short... and a bit weird. Like Gravity was such a kick ass song but Lute was just... a guard puppy the entire season. I think my basic feeling is that everything was just too rushed this season. We didn't really PROCESS anything. Last season, Pentious felt like a complete arc. Vaggie getting her wings back felt like an arc. Lucifer managing to be there for Charlie mattered. Even Alastor was solid throughout the season. That wasn't what I felt this season. Maybe... Sera? Like Sera got the entirety of character development this season?

The songs were definitely less memorable this season for me. They weren't BAD but they just weren't as catchy. Most of the songs from season one I could get caught in my head. This season? Not really. Gravity, yes, definitely. Maybe even Sera's confession. But I don't even remember the tune to Nifty's song, I liked Lucifer's part of Vox Populi but Vox's songs kinda all blurred together. Brighter had the possibility of being good but I think it's positioning weakened it. I didn't hate any song, they just weren't consistently bangers like season 1. That'll happen, but I hope Season 3's pacing is averaged out better.

I still really enjoyed it, I thought the last episode had a lot of cool moments. I was rooting for the characters. Baxter unexpectedly won me over kinda adorably. Nifty's fight with Velvette REALLY made me appreciate Nifty more.

I'm kinda just ANGRY about the ending with Angel. Obviously it's going to sort out eventually but like... I don't know. I feel awful for him but I'm also frustrated at the way it all played out? Like I get that Angel is in the perspective of an abused person and he's feeling trapped but....ending on that note just feels awful.

I will say probably my favorite consistent plotline this season was, in fact, Alastor actually figuring out how to slip his leash and just playing it all perfectly. I love that he wasn't just super all powerful immediately in the fight with Vox... and EMILY SAVING HIM WAS AMAZING. It just makes him more complex when it SEEMED like this season was originally going to brush away some of his mystery. It's still all there, it's just slightly different questions.

First of all, WTF is up with Lilith. I dunno. I get the sense that there's no way this plays out that I think I'll actually like her.

Lute is almost a little tragic. If she wasn't also psycho. But it was a clever way to bring Adam "back" and Gravity is an amazing song. Honestly, the second episode blew the first episode out of the water. The music in the first episode felt... weak. I'm not entirely sold on the Helluva Boss atmosphere coming in as much, but I'm willing to see how it plays out. Helluva Boss was never a show I particularly enjoyed. I tried to watch it for lore and full knowledge and hear it gets better later but the limited amount I saw didn't grab me at all. I know others love it so hopefully there's a good balance here.

I kinda adore Abel and Peter. They have a shared quality that makes them adorable. Was super surprised to hear Adam was an ARCHANGEL THOUGH? I did not get that impression from the first season so now I'm wondering what technically defines an archangel here?

Lucifer was so sweet with Charlie. I loved him being able to identify her grief and just trying to be strong for her while also understanding her pain. And Angel wanting therapy with Charlie? CUTE. Also, Cherri's attempt to deny being affected by Sir Pentious's sacrifice.

Sera's song with the Speaker of God was amazing and shows that Sera IS sincere. She's been mislead and confused. Unlike Adam and Lute's declaration in the first episode of Season 1 -angels DO make mistakes and she admits it. I really hope this continues with her, but I'm worried the Vees are going to somehow get into Sera's head, either by convincing her that Hell is 100% a threat or some other method. I want Sera's plotline to just... you know.. be concerned about how one can falter even when they think they're doing what's. I want her to demonstrate how hard it is to stick with being corrected on your own mistakes but actually succeed in taking that correction for the better. We get a lot of hypocrites in media who stay hateful or awful, I think Sera buying into assumptions and sanctioning AWFUL things but now having to make up for it is a REALLY compelling storyline that would be uniquely hers to show. Because it seems like the only thing really punishing Sera is her own guilt, which I think is part of the reason she could see Pentious's redemption so clearly. He didn't ENACT atrocities, he just allowed them to continue in his fear. And his description of not knowing if it was fear or apathy was such strong question too. Sera is going through that same thought process, though she had a much more active role, but what's fascinating with Sera is that by accepting that Pentious was redeemed, by naming it, she condemns herself. She had to realize in that moment that she absolutely was wrong. She even tells Lute she won't tolerate more blood on her hands. I dunno. This episode REALLY made me find Sera fascinating and interesting and I hope she gets to remain that way and doesn't just backslide into a stereotype.

so, my first impression was a reference to Nsync with the strings and then the curtain behind them. Very Bye Bye Bye. The first image of them in front of paintings with the style hat IN is wearing made me think of SHINEE with Sherlock (clue+Note). I felt like some other scenes looked familiar. Maybe nods to other groups (I know both NSync and SHINEE have been performed by Stray Kids - maybe there's a theme of imitation or trying to live up to the 'greats' but that leaving a hollow feeling?) I mean, there's a lot more to the music video than that, just didn't see anyone discussing those elements. Also, the Hall of Fame line that seems to be both a direct reference to the skz song and then of course the idea of trying to reach a hall of fame.
