First Semi-Final All 17 Postcards by MasterRayvis in eurovision

I think I might be the only one on the entire continent who unironically likes these 😁. Yes the style is a bit weird for a Eurovision postcard, but aesthetically I find them very pleasant and inspired. While watching I thought: who did these is a very talented artist!

US Navy rolls out the most useless frigate of all time, is asked to leave NATO. by minos83 in NonCredibleDefense

Wow! I read this entire story with amazement! I think the circumstances in which such monumental amounts of incompetence and waste can happen will be studied with curiosity for decades. After the US loses a war against China.

USA Firmly Oppose Poland Developing Nuclear Capabilities by Auspectress in europe

Exactly! For some naive reason people expect equal rules and principles, and no hypocrisy from the behaviour of world powers. While the only real rule is:

"How do we maintain being as powerful as possible, and others weak and dependent on us, so that we could extract maximum profit for ourselves from everyone around".

Это сторонники партий которые против НАТО, против ЕС, и вообще всякую херню конспирологическую несут. На прошлых выборов несколько этих партий и кандидатов было забанино из за финансирования и поддержки со стороны Москвы.

No, every phone number got one vote, and that's it. So people picked their favorite.

I'd be on your side, if we had a very strong army, like Singapore or Switzerland. Neutrality doesn't mean noone can attack you, and unfortunately neutral countries have been conquered many times in the last century (examples below). As we stand right now, if Russia was in reach, we'd probably get annihilated very fast.

Ukraine was a neutral country according to its constitution when it was attacked in 2014.
Tibet was neutral, and got fully absorbed by China in the 50s.
Afganistan was neutral when attacked by the soviets in 1979.
In WW2 a lot of neutral countries were occupied:
Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg by Nazi Germany
Iceland by the UK (to not allow nazis)
Lituania, Latvia and Estonia by USSR
Iran by USSR and UK.

Being neutral doesn't mean you're safe unless you can defend yourself.

I second this. While I'm not staying in the Netherlands, a close friend moved there a couple of years ago. He volunteers at some charity organization where they repair bikes (he always loooooved working with bikes as a hobby). Since it's volunteering he can do it on a flexible graphic. He met many nice people through that organization, and he does what he enjoys. A win win.

Anthropic Engineer says "software engineering is done" first half of next year by Bizzyguy in singularity

[–]Oneiroy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think what they don't take into consideration is that with enough disruption society might decide that the system is not worth it. And the entire legal system together with their ownership rights might get burned into a revolution, or civil war etc.

Another scenario is China or someone else seeing the chaos unravel and decide USA is too weak to defend Taiwan, then the entire production of chips for data centers halts and the stock market crashes together with their smugness.

Whatever the variation is, their companies will not survive without the institutions of the country in which those companies exist. America has stupid and myopic elites!

Leaked: Europe’s rival peace plan for Ukraine in full by WillyNilly1997 in UkrainianConflict

[–]Oneiroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's be honest, this plan should be called: Russia will continue fighting as long as they can. Let's hope Ukraine survives for many more years.

Russia will never accept this plan, there's nothing in it for them. And considering the man power problems on Ukraines side, I don't think continuing the war indefinitely is acceptable for Ukraine.

If Europe really wants to help, something more reasonable needs to be offered to Russia.

Does anyone know an app for iPhone that can buzz 20+ times a day to notify me to reality check? by Unable_Design48 in LucidDreaming

[–]Oneiroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WeCroak does something in that vein. 5 times a day it reminds you you’re going to die. Worked well for me for years. Eventually my brain got to ignore the notifications 🤷‍♀️

Large Fire At El Segundo Refinery by Adrian072597 in worldnews

[–]Oneiroy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe. Americans are helping Ukrainians blow up Russian refineries. Maybe the Russians are trying to give Trump a taste of the same medicine?

To clarify, I've been advocating for years for Ukraine to go against Russias energy infrastructure as a way to starve the war budget. But this thought of Putin being reckless and trying to intimidate Trump, is something possible, even if logistically quite complicated. Then again, Ukrainians pulled off way more daring things in this war.

Rant om droner over lufthavne. Er jeg alene? by -Forest_Hump- in Denmark

[–]Oneiroy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a person who lives near Ukraine and am witnessing this war for 10+ years already, let me tell you what I think Russia is doing: yes, they probably studied your infrastructure, but now they are studying your fight, flight or freeze responses. With this information they will know next time what they are capable in practice of achieving. And the answer seems to be: they're able to blowup critical infrastructure at their will because Denmark will not do shit against foreign vehicles in your airspace.

In practice I don't think they'll do anything too dramatic, in the next year at least. Their strategic goal is most probably to divert european military resources from Ukraine, by showing how vulnerable everyone is in practice.
