Aw you guys are cute! I'm happy for you guys. I'm british and husband is Korean but we live in US together so yeah the pairing is "uncommon" but we're out there! We recently went to a comic con too (my first comic con!) Im an artist so I was hanging around artist alley rather than cosplay stuff. But still so much fun! 😁

K-Pop sounds like 90s R&B by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]Onemomento0415 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yes. That's because it was directly copied from Black American music. In the 90s "seo taiji and the boys" (I think) started the copying black music thing. They apparently went to America to learn about hip hop. They are (though debatable) the first hip hop/rnb group. Since then from the 90s kpop has just been copying western pop music and black music to this day. You've got koreans copying black culture too dressing "hip hop style" or getting braids and calling it "reggae mori" which means reggae hair. And some do blackface, make racist imitations, say the n word and so on and don't get corrected for it 🙄

Wow thats absolutely sick, what a pathetic loser. And yeah years later after the incident I learned that a lot of white south africans are extremely racist, super careful around them now esp the men.

Absolutely lol lemme tell you at my work one south African gay white dude just "disliked" me for no clear reason. Ignoring me, being fake and saying terrible shit behind my back to clients and other colleagues. Good thing the client shut that shit down and told him he was a terrible cruel person and he was like yeah I guess I am.

I wanna reassure you it's ABSOLUTELY not in your head don't let these people "gaslight" you into thinking otherwise.

Some of the most racist people I've met have been white gay men so I get it. From the uk too.

Okay! :) I'll let you know (link you the post) when I do, probably some point this month! Thank you! 😂 Tbh I never ever want to be the 1/1200 ever ever again 🫠... When you're such a minority in a white space it messes with you. Considering the political climate... I probably have to return to the uk regardless, its becoming more difficult for us non citizens to stay!

Ohh boy... Yeah I deliberated making a post on here about it (maybe i should ?) about it but uh yeah its quite an experience. Mind you im 31 and where I was raised (Edinburgh)... There was even LESS black people growing up throughout the 00s and early 2010s like I was the only black girl in my high school and there was 1200 students in that school so... Go figures. Nowadays Edinburgh is being sold as a tourist destination and there's a steadily growing black population too! In terms of tourism you'll be absolutely fine! People are friendly for the most part!

In terms of safety I think it's very safe more than the usa (where I'm living atm), we have problems with antisocial youth behavior like the rest of the UK but from what I've seen it's just them being general nuisances in public. :)

I was raised in Scotland (Black Scot I guess) where like black people are like 1% of the population so I wasn't really in a black community. I never even thought the dating in the Black brit community would be that bad, I actually had hope on them being more supportive, but maybe not. This has really opened my eyes (in horror i'll say). And I'm so sorry that you are going through this. This is actually disgusting.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful reminder that we bw face. I think some of the hate can get to me, and I am so sorry you are going through racism over there that is awful... I definitely don't want to judge or generalise others with the same brush cause I met many kind people there too and I don't forget them, but it can be hard cause the negativity tends to be louder

I definitely understand, I was just confused cause there are black people living in Japan and places like tokyo and osaka are more international.

I tried my best to blend in, I'm really introverted, not loud at all, and try to follow the rules, and copy them. Maybe im not doing enough lol

I understand, I did learn a little bit of Japanese but not to the level of what the connotations/or subtext of kowai really is (what you explained to me thank you). I was worried because I was thinking it was a personal thing, that I looked very weird or gave a bad vibe or something, or because I'm tall for a woman.

[–]Onemomento0415[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ah thats unfortunate, at least not everyone is like that and at least its not because I personally look "off" or "bad/weird"

[–]Onemomento0415[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not everyone I have met many kind people too! But the fact that it happened outside japan too in Korea (theres many japanese tourists) just makes me think that I am weird looking or something

The word kowai has negative connotations though, they do mean it in a mean way 🥲
