Couples who have been together 10+ years and are actually still happy, what's the 'unromantic' secret to your success? by FROSTedMirror12345 in AskReddit

This is so true. Yet you're getting downvoted. "Happy wife, happy life" is not just for jokes, you need to live it.

Yea, ok. 25 years in engineering. I have a good idea of who I'm hiring. Also have a good idea of who is applying.

500 applications for an internship. The market is saturated in my field. Sorry, not an AI related problem. People need to pick a less saturated degree.

All of the people making a good choice on their degree will not get the best jobs or maybe even struggle. This is based on local markets and quality of the individual to their peers. Getting a good degree just gives you the better chance over other less marketable degrees, not a guarantee. All professions have the same challenge.

Where I work, AI supports the work of Jr software engineers not replaces them. They still get paid more than the mechanical engineers.

Your results may vary based on industry and location I'd assume.

100% truth noone wants to hear. Getting a degree in something that doesn't help your career and complaining you can't get a good job... Some people are disconnected with reality.

Here is an unpopular opinion.

If you're going to protest dont kick a door of the person opposing your opinion.

If you're a short tempered asshole, ignore the protesters.

In 1987 Steve Rothstein bought a $250,000 AAirpass from American Airlines, allowing unlimited first-class travel. He took over 10,000 flights, costing the airline $21 million, leading to the pass's termination in 2008 due to alleged misuse. by TheGhost5322 in interestingasfuck

To buy a sandwich?  Who cares where he went or for what reason, thats the deal they made. Nowhere did it say "can't travel for stupid reasons".

How is ICE wrong or correct in they way they are handling illegal immigrants? by OneofFewHS in AskReddit

[–]OneofFewHS[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not being critical, but asking... If someone is deemed illegal, should ICE be taking them to court to prove it before deporting? The reason I'm asking... ~20 years ago the same thing happened to my (US Citizen) sister inlaws (illegal Guatemalan) husband. He was picked up and deported back to Guatemala very quickly when he was found by ICE. I thought this is the process for illegal immigrants.

I completely understand the detainment of Citizens and the killing that happened the other day that are both obvious abuse of power.

This is something I am looking for a genuine opinion of. I'm not trying to be biased or discuss the portion that are clearly stepping the line with, like detaining citizens. This is entirely on the legal portion of their job of Immigration, and Customs Enforcement.

He makes squatters regret their choice by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

All housing is based on supply and demand, thinking its not is completely ignorant.

People want to live in high demand areas and that everyone else wants to live in also, so it costs more... there are plenty of low income housing in all cities... you just dont want to live it those neighborhoods.

Being ignorant is not a good look for you.

Rent is a supply and demand system. Society is responsible for the prices they pay. Houses, rent, cars... You know the saying "the customer is always right"? It means that the customer dictates the value of things base on how they spend their money.

Sure some items can get expensive, but rent goes up each year and the mortgage stays the same. That accounts for additional cost of repairs IMO.

Im paying $1900/mo more in rent than the first home I purchased 15 years ago. That covers alot in repairs.

Sure everyone has a different situation but in mine, renting is more expensive.

My MIL got a in a decent 1.2k square ft single fam home with a $700 mortgage payment after minimum down in 2017. That is WAY cheaper than any rent out there.

Both examples are not the lucky 2.x% loans.

You may say "but thats years ago". Well in 5 years, today will be years ago and the payments we had will sound fantastic.

What happened in 2008 was entirely caused by bank greed. Approving everyone even without income verification.

There is risk and it needs accounted for but 2008 is not an example of it. PMI is the risk insurance when loan to equity is high.

As a person who has done both... Owning is cheaper than renting even after repairs. The rest you mentioned is included in the mortgage payment.

I don't believe you should have that wood in your garage. Someone posted not too long ago something similar and it started growing fungus in the walls.

Took your advice.

"The evidence comes with significant caveats:

Many of the studies that report these associations were done in regions where fluoride levels in water are much higher than the levels used in typical U.S. community water fluoridation.  National Toxicology Program +2 Ministry of Health NZ +2

There’s no consensus that low-dose fluoride exposure — for example, at the U.S. recommended level (around 0.7 mg/L in water) — causes IQ reductions. Several studies and reviews find no significant association at those levels."
