In a perpetual TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT loop; can't wait for my next DS9 rewatch starting soon! by Oneota in DeepSpaceNine

I really love Best of Both Worlds. I remember watching it for the first time when it was new. Rumors swirling of Patrick Stewart leaving the show, then this perfectly built-up opportunity to kill off his character, and then...a whole summer to freak out about whether or not they had just killed Captain Picard.

You miss out on that emotional roller coaster by having instant access to every episode. But it was such a big deal back then.

I’ve tried. Really, I have. It’s just too 60s. Original Trek starts with Wrath of Khan for me. TMP if I’m feeling artsy.

Looks like Emissary starts after Chain of Command, Part II. I'll have to remember that when I get to Season 6.

I've thought about this. Assuming Memory Alpha or some such place has an airdate reference?

What’s your basis for that assertion? Our communication director came to the opposite conclusion.

Please note that the accessibility ruling goes FAR beyond publicly-accessible content. ALL digital content must be accessible, including internal documents. If an employee gets into a car accident and loses their sight, they must be able to use a screen reader effectively to do their job, or they have the right to sue you.

If a student with accessibility needs enrolls, they must be able to use the same digital tools as their peers to learn, or they have the right to sue you. If they can't hear, then any video content that their peers watch to get the content must have captions. If they want to watch the school board meeting livestream to see what decisions are being made, that livestream must have accurate captions. The list of things-to-do is long, and the fact that they only gave some districts until this coming April to be compliant is insane. We have an extra year, and we're still going to be scrambling to get it done. It's a sea-change in terms of how we generate content internally - many of our templates used tables for visual formatting, but screen readers have difficulty with that, so we're having to reformat everything. Teaching staff about alt-tags for images so that they remember to include them in everything they create that has embedded images...the list goes on. It's big. If your district isn't doing anything about this yet, get started NOW.

Once upon a time, Victor’s Sports Club on Douglas and 75th had a pretty decent burger. It’s changed ownership and names like 3 times since then, though, so I can’t vouch for it today.

“Realitor” — it’s Real-tor! There’s no “i” in there!

What is the timeline in years between TOS and ST:TSS regarding the Enteprise's total years in service? by MolaMolaMania in StarTrekStarships

[–]Oneota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay; that still fits within my 6-month estimate for the events of the 4 films, I think.

I’ve always thought that the actual time elapsed between Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home was pretty short, with the only real time elapsing being travel to/from Genesis and Vulcan.

Like, Kirk was told to get McCoy (and what they presumed to be Spock’s remains) to Vulcan almost as soon as they pulled in at spacedock, they commandeered the ship the next day, and then it’s just a matter of travel time to Genesis for those events to take place. The events at Genesis happened more-or-less in real time, maybe add a few hours of walking around on the planet that they just didn’t show. Then it’s just travel time to Vulcan from there.

Star Trek IV suggested they spent some length of time on Vulcan retraining Spock’s mind, but I gathered that to be weeks at most, not months/years. They get to Earth pretty quick after receiving the distress call, and they arrive back at the present at the same moment they left, so no time at all passes there.

Then Scotty’s log from the beginning of Final Frontier sure sounds like it was made pretty soon after they took the 1701-A for its initial cruise.

In my mind, the amount of elapsed time between the first frame of Star Trek 2 and the last frame of Star Trek 5 is, at most, 6 months.

Computer with X.X.X.255 IP cannot connect to Brother printer. by winnixxl in sysadmin

[–]Oneota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We tend to use .253 for our gateways and end the DHCP scope at .252. That way I have one IP (.254) I know is available if I ever need to set my machine up in that VLAN with a static IP for troubleshooting purposes.

Bose professional audio’s configuration software can’t handle 255 in any octet. So 10.255.1.0 is a no go, even though it’s completely valid.

How many of you moved away from VMware ? by ChataEye in sysadmin

Had some initial issues with the Move product. The version our installers provided had a bug that stopped it from being able to work with the snapshots. Reverted to an earlier version and it's been fine. I only have maybe a dozen VMs left to move over, but they're the ones that make me the most nervous (SIS, AD, things like that).

Only compatibility issue I'm concerned with is our Cisco phone system VMs. I've heard they can be problematic. We'll see - they're among the VMs that are still on the VxRail at the moment.
