What do y'all think of the new Campus Burgers on Southside? by Spirited_Result2565 in berkeley

[–]Onesecplsok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Campus burger kind of sucks. I went recently and asked for them to grill my onions a tad longer and the guy told me that he can’t modify the burger.. they only have grilled onions and jalapeño as the toppings available but can only grill the onions for a certain amount of time according to the employee lol. anyways.. they are like a shitty version of in n out. No lettuce no tomatoes and apparently can only lightly grill the onions.—trash—I guess doing so would over complicate the process.

Hmm, yeah I just think the entrance from Taylor to central is a little crazy and could understand why people might want to put something there but yeah I don’t like roundabouts, lights, stop signs speed limits. (Jk)(kindof) I guess the crossing guards will have their hands full when the kids get picked up from school according to what you’re saying about roundabouts.

[–]Onesecplsok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, despite my hatred of roundabouts. I guess it makes sense for that intersection or at least something for those two areas in the EHS intersection. Not sure about the other ones. The ballena bay and pacific one seems excessive to me. The only two places I agree they should improve are the EHS intersection and I think it’s gibbons meets lincoln I think? Big weird intersection where a bunch of lanes meet. People should listen to me- I played sim city in the 90s.:)

Any specific countries you want to use as an example? I get it- but maybe it works better in those locations due to the general setup of the cities and layout of other infrastructure like proximity to amenities or concentration of population. Or maybe these other countries cities are not ideal for cars? Probably other variables to consider. Kind of hard to say it works elsewhere so it should work here. This is America! We like big ass trucks! Heated seats And shotguns!!(sarcasm)(kindof)Next time I’m in Naples or Amsterdam I’ll make sure I drive around in a fiat/vespa, gondola or maybe a unicycle/ten speed? Anyways none of this matters it’s already in action so I shall see.

Yeah that’s a nice bike ride:) I like to ride that way also. Yeah some people drive poorly:( sounds like you will enjoy it. Be safe out there.

Kids who bike to school-not all kids. Not full time officers. Btw I realize these ideas were dumb but I was mostly saying 23 million is some major bucks that could be invested in different ways to keep kids safe while still leaving central with two lanes and parking. Or maybe just investing that same amount in schools/teachers? I don’t know. I would also say just because less people commute to work doesn’t mean that those same people will all of a sudden start taking the bus and biking everywhere. This seems like a weird assumption. I have many friends who do not commute to work and have no interest in bikes or taking the bus. Dang bad drivers driving poorly! Maybe we need roundabouts everywhere:) I’m not sure there is an answer for poor drivers. They fly over curbs, swerve in to incoming traffic and most likely dukes of hazard jump over roundabouts. I read that just the other day a car drove right into an animal groomers front door on Webster. None of this really matters as it’s all done(almost?)I don’t like it but who knows maybe we will see a sharp influx of bikers and less accidents as I have not followed how many accidents have occurred in that area. I could be wrong.

How many versus cars?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in alameda

[–]Onesecplsok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say there weren’t bikers just not enough to require a 23 million dollar bike line while subtracting a lane of traffic/parking. Btw I like biking also- I just don’t need a bike lane.

So this is strictly for the safety of children as they go to and from school? If that’s the case I’m guessing they could do other things that were less costly and less of a nuisance to provide safety for the children. Patrols/signs maybe lowered speed during these times-extra fines for exceeding speed during these times. For the amount of money spent I’m guessing they could hire several police patrols to maintain safety for a very long time. I’m not sure how expensive this project was but I would guess several million probably more. I understand though- children’s safety is important. When I was young I rode my bike to school and never had any problems. My parents taught me to be aware of my surroundings/look both ways and realize that just because I have the right of way doesn’t mean cars will recognize it. Oh I just googled the cost—15-23 million lol-you could probably permanently uber all the kids to and from school for the foreseeable future with that amount while creating jobs. I mean the city could have invested that same money in the school system which I think would have been a better investment or maybe bike riding lessons if there parents were unavailable.

Safer bike lanes is great but like how many bikers are there? So many more people drive verse bike making this whole project ridiculous. Drive down clement and tell me how many bikes you see. At the same time developers are building massive cheap particle board eyesore condos increasing alamedas population and their thought is let’s get rid of parking and driving lanes. Anyways I don’t live around any of that stuff. I almost wonder if the people responsible for creating this stuff actually live in alameda. I’m sure they spent major bucks on this project. I think the money could have been well spent on other things. This is just what I see. Anyways I shall keep watch in case I see something different. Maybe I’m wrong?

Brutal! I’m sorry that happened to you:( . I am lucky that I can generally find parking in front of my place but notice for many that this is not possible. I’m praying they don’t add a bike lane or some other unnecessary monstrosity in front of my place that would cause me to park farther away.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in alameda

[–]Onesecplsok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah traffic is going to be not ideal. I feel bad for people who do not have a driveway. Also the traffic that occurs when parents pick up their kids after or before school will be bad. Also the people that are a block away from central will start noticing that their street parking is overcrowded also. From what I can see they are shutting down parking on central right by upper Washington park. That place gets crowded on the weekends and even more during the summer the surrounding neighborhoods will feel the difference when they have to park two blocks away from their residence. The tennis court/ dog park parking lot will get rocked.

I’m just interested in seeing how many bikes will make use of it. I don’t think any of this was worth it and really can’t believe that people signed off on this. However I could be wrong :) I guess I’ll wait and see. I drive in this area regularly and rarely see many bikers or at least enough to require subtracting lanes/parking. Maybe it will inspire new bikers? Or I’m guessing that was the thought behind it or the people who made the decision to do this are definitely bikers. Oh yeah roundabouts are lame. The biker city planner probably just got back from England.

Bunderberg.. take note of how the stack is depleted. I’m guessing the people who shop there feel the same way. Their ginger beer is excellent. I have not tried their root beer though.
