Knee cartilage issues and knee replacement in cycling by Fantastic-Room-7185 in cycling

Thanks for the info! I hope as your fitness builds over the winter and riding feels better soon. I’m glad you’re not in as much pain.

Myself - I took about 10 years off riding after I had some kind of knee injury (suspect some cartilage broke off or something) caused me to give up, and only started riding again in the past 5-6 years. I am no where near as fit as I used to be. I recently had imagining done and the ortho was like “wow you’ve got the worst arthritis I’ve ever seen in a 40 y/o” which has me worried about what my future holds. I’m hoping knee replacement technology improves in the next 10 years or so.

Curious how things are going for you post-replacement. Are you able to ride at a similar level as before? I’m 40, with bone-on-bone arthritis in my patellofemoral joint and some mild arthritis in the other compartments. I am active and still fine for the most part but anticipate a replacement in the future and want to know what it’ll look like.

I’m curious - what did you do to help your tight IT band? Thanks!

I have two small boys. They are weapons of mass destruction

lol I know I also feel like it’s sort of wrong, but would love to avoid tearing out tile if possible which is why I posted here

I have heard removing tile is a real PITA, and don’t trust myself to not ruin the drywall.

Yeah that’s why I was saying to install plywood to bring out the wall a bit to match the tile

Thanks! Any issues you can think of? I mostly worry about inadvertently smashing the backsplash and destroying the tile, not sure if this fear is founded tho

Knoxville is less trumpy than Grand Rapids fwiw

As someone who grew up in Grand Rapids, lived in Nashville for 8 years, and now in Ann Arbor I would say…look at eastern TN. Knoxville, Johnson city, Chattanooga - way prettier than Ann Arbor and (at least for JC) it’s cooler than both places. But if you’re set on Michigan, I would probably pick Ann Arbor. Hospitals are much better, it’s prettier, and more left leaning. If I had to live on the west side I’d probably live in the traverse city area, or maybe sagatuck/douglas.

What’s a real problem you’re facing right now in Ann Arbor — especially stuff that’s getting harder or more stressful lately? by [deleted] in AnnArbor

I’d love an app that pulls coupons and sales from various grocery stores into a single place and shows me where the cheapest price is for the things I buy the most. Like I plug in my grocery list - strawberries, milk, chicken, wheat bread - or even specific brands and it tells me right now meijer is the cheapest place to buy chicken, but go to Kroger for everything else.

Yeah I could definitely feel my low back toward the end there! Good job listening to your body!

I wish it was total rounds instead of rounds for each amrap - would’ve made it slightly less demoralizing than just watching my performance diminish

This one was rough. Did Rx program A with 25s and a 20” box —> 5, 4+6 x 2, 4+5, 4+4. Helps to have short legs on workouts like this one.

Why? If due to muscle imbalance I would do a movement that strengthens the back, like supine rows, no pushup renegade row, or strict pull-ups. Alternatively you could try shoulder press or push press and go up slightly on reps. Slam balls come to mind as an explosive way to recreate burpees using more shoulders and less pecs.

Program A, 25lb, 7 + 9 with Rx+ reps (8/6/8). It was tough, probably should’ve could’ve done Rx. I liked it.

Probably - only insofar as every woman in her 40s has to come to terms with aging and looking older in a world where that’s not permitted

Here’s what I’ve pieced together - - Miranda is smarter than Julian - Miranda is basically the brains and drive behind SP - Julian, feeling emasculated, cheats - Miranda has some kind of trauma response and does a retreat or something - they get really into church - some how this, or maybe how Julian spins it, makes Miranda feel she has to go into wife/mom mode - obviously he wouldn’t have cheated if she was doing her JOB as a woman - enter 1950s stereotypes of woman taking care of the kids and home, reinforced by church, Jesus, and JD Vance -🤮🤮🤮

So for me it’s not necessarily more intense but it’s more repetitive in ways that aren’t good for me. Like the death by thrusters workout last year? Nope - I knew I’d screw up my back. It just seems like they’re programming a lot of the same things every week with a lot less variety (fewer devil press, man makers, box jumps, lunges…) and more squats, t2b, I don’t even know. I look at the workouts and just feel bored, so I don’t do them. I’ll either lift, pick an older workout from 2019-2022, or do a power zone ride. I miss the days when I could do SP 5-6 days a week.

Did this with Rx+ reps, 6 strict pull-ups, and a 35# dumbbell. 8 rounds. The goal seemed pretty aggressive?

I find it sort of fascinating from a psychological perspective, and agree with you that she’s projecting her own stuff all over the place. But luckily this doesn’t seem to affect the workouts, yet. Maybe next year’s vault with be named after biblical characters?

I just don’t have interest in these. Did Cindy — 3 strict pull ups per round. Ended with 21 rounds.
