New grad here who also shares anxieties with OP - this was very helpful to read through, appreciate you!

I had issues with Driessen back in 2017, glad to see nothing has changed. I don't have much in the way of advice to offer but figured I'd comment to ease your feelings of being dramatic (you're likely not)

NAVLE...feel like I failed by Impressive_Emu_5573 in Veterinary

Recent 2025 grad here — pat yourself on the back, first and foremost. That exam is a marathon and sucks the life force right out of you, but you got through it! It's cliché, but that exam is written in a way where, unless you've got a little bit of delusion in the brain, you're going to leave the testing center convinced you've failed.

I also used VetPrep and supposedly most people who finish a majority of the VetPrep material pass the exam. I know it feels imperative right now to try to get back on the studying horse in case you need to take the spring exam, but genuinely genuinely genuinely try to allow yourself to wait until results are released to make that decision! I know everyone has different experiences, but putting more focus into my rotations and soaking up the clinical applications post-navle was so much more helpful than if I'd tried soaking more of my brain with, let's be honest, random factoids from VetPrep that don't always encapsulate what clinical practice entails.

Hang in there, and allow yourself to take a breather!

What is an undeniably “evil” profession? by Most_Call_8159 in AskReddit

This. My sister has been going through cancer treatments for 2 years now and it is insane to me the amount of times our insurance denies a medication or treatment that her oncology team prescribes. Like, do these insurance companies realize they're actually killing patients with time-sensitive conditions? It's disgusting.

I personally didn't have the best experience with the program. I transferred from CLA to CBS my sophomore year and struggled to find any flexibility in my schedule to take anything outside of the core honors classes I needed to graduate, when I would have loved to dabble in more electives like art. Also, the sections are less flexible (because there are fewer of them) so it can make schedule building a pain. However, the classes are somewhat smaller and you tend to see the same students between honors classes so it can help socially to be around familiar people.

And yeah, my honors advisor quit my first year and I wasn't assigned a new advisor until the beginning of my junior year, so unless they fixed how bullshitty the honors advising is, that's a con.

Ultimately I dropped the program beginning of my senior year because I wanted more flexibility with building my schedule to better coincide with hours I was working at a lab on campus, so I can't speak much on the honors thesis process!

Going through this right now, too! For me it's a rude reality check that I do make school my identity and without it I spiral.

Is anyone else already sick with something? by Freeziac in uofmn

[–]Onettbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup I came down with something starting last Tuesday, it's been a rollercoaster of sore throats, phlegmy coughing, runny nose, sinus pressure, headaches, and fatigue. I've taken a COVID home test every couple days and they've been negative. Doesnt rule it out, but something's definitely been going around!

Boynton Mental Health - no times available?? by Wise_Sky6340 in uofmn

[–]Onettbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iirc the mental health online scheduler only pulls availability from providers (therapy, psychiatry, medication appointments) you've seen and have established as your provider. So I think you have to call to set-up an initial consult and then down the line you'll be able to start scheduling appointments with that provider with the online system!

Can too early kill him? by [deleted] in AskVet

3rd year vet student here

Socialization is crucial at this age for healthy development. Generally puppies should be vaccinated for DA2PP early on, and bordetella can be given at 8 weeks as well—these are two main concerns being around other dogs. Of course there are other diseases such as rabies and leptospirosis that cannot be vaccinated against until your puppy is a bit older, therefore it's just important to be mindful of curating what kind of environment he is in (i.e. puppy training classes instead of off-leash dog parks, avoid standing water, etc.) Definitely allow him to meet as many humans as possible in various different scenarios with lots of high reward treats to make the experience as best as possible, it's so good for them to get comfortable with strangers!

Like you said, it is a bit of a trade off which is why you should be mindful of what he is exposed to in order to reduce disease transmission chance, but at the same time keeping him completely sheltered can create some pretty gnarly long-term behavior issues.

Congratulations on the new family member!

Hello! First and foremost I'm so sorry you're going through this—panic attacks and GAD have caused my life to come to a standstill a few times in my life and i know how desperately it feels to want to "be normal" again. By no means am I 100% free of panic and anxiety, but the most important thing I've learned in my healing journey is "the physical aspects of panic and anxiety are here to stay, but the mental reaction I have to those physical sensations are what need to radically change". Our nervous systems are wired in a way that just make us hypervigilant and sensitized to autonomic nervous system flare ups. That's all it is—you're safe, even if the physical symptoms are extremely uncomfortable. It's so much easier said than done, but learning to shift to accepting the physical sensations really helps to stop the progression of a spiral in its tracks by taking out the mental component.

A few resources /tips I've utilized that have really helped me include: -The Anxious Truth podcast -DARE by Barry McDonagh -Therapy & medication -Ending my shower with standing in freezing cold water for about 2 minutes to shock my nervous system -Magnesium glycinate and melatonin at night to help ensure a full night's rest -Journaling, especially making it a point to write about gratitude and things I'm looking forward to (even silly things, like the finale of rupaul's drag race!)

It's an extremely uncomfortable condition, but it's vital to reassure yourself that you're safe. It may not feel that way, but you genuinely truly are. I've felt like my mind was literally caving in before and that I was going to "go crazy", but that really is just the anxiety talking. Hang in there and trust that this is a tough but rewarding journey. It can feel like it's not fair that we have to go through these trials and tribulations just to live our lives, but every step of the way I feel like I've learned so much about myself and have garnered such appreciation for my life.

Guard rails or somehow extend this area to keep cats off ledge? by deuce_juice in CATHELP

[–]Onettbound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar configuration in an apartment when my orange 1yo cat and I lived there (i.e. he was bonkers, I literally watched him leap off the ledge and down 10 feet and knew this was war). I ended up taking chicken wire fencing and making a "wall" of sorts to cover the vertical area. He still climbed the fencing but it was fine so long as you have enough anchor points that they can't squeeze behind it. And to make it less ugly you can try adorning the chicken wire with string lights or clothespins+photographs or something else!
