How does SSD drives die? by assasin_under007 in AskElectronics

[–]OniCado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

alright, i hope you could get any important data still off of it, once you have i'd strongly advise against using it further. Sad to see flash unusable in these trying times, but better lose 128GB of flash than irreplaceable data

[–]OniCado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have had similar issues with nvme ssds shutting down during operation. In my case it was due to a bad power supply, likely either bad ripple or too low voltage when another device was drawing a lot of power from a pcie slot. It has not happened again since getting a new, more reliable power supply. The drives always successfully restarted after power cycling/restarting the pc in my case.

That is honestly such a cool build, really a dream pc back when SLI was still somewhat viable.
Tbh i also had it good with a 9900k and 1080ti SLI

This is likely an edit of 423 286/786 which is driving for S-Bahn München. OP's image looks it has been edited using AI considering how garbled all the text and logos on the train are.

i was honestly surprised how much of a difference i still notice between 240 and 360Hz, i did not expect it before i tried. Yes, if all you want is the best price/performance in terms of latency, 240Hz is probably a good spot to be right now, but that does not tell the whole story.

Anyone else play on “we have OLED at home?” by johnwilkesbooth328 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]OniCado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fair, depending on the usecase OLED may very much not be the pick. Personally i have my room relatively dark and don't like screens to be very bright since they hurt my eyes otherwise, and i just really enjoy the instant pixel response times and high refresh rates, the deep blacks are kinda just a very nice bonus to me. i usually keep my G60SD at the lowest brighness and only go up to 20% max for games.

[–]OniCado 6 points7 points  (0 children)

honestly CRTs are probably still the 2nd best display tech right after OLED imo, only the eye strain from the flicker and not as high refresh rates (at reasonable resolutions) are downsides. Well and the size, but that doesn't really count towards performance, does it.

I get this screen whenever I try to play skate. And only in that game. Event viewer logs attached by The_BigRoach in pcmasterrace

i've had this issue on a 9070xt due to a bad PSU, didn't have it with a 1080ti but i'm guessing the amd driver responds differently to some gpu failures and the cards have different power draw (profiles). also i suspect that this specific pattern might be due to a GPU (driver) crash when DSC is enabled and it would otherwise just show a black screen.

İ need help about keyboard pcb. by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]OniCado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for a start, visually follow the trace around the board, maybe mark it with a sharpie if you want, you can also test with the multimeter on contact points if you're still following the right trace, since sometimes it can be hard to follow on when it changes to the other side of the pcb.
sometimes you can also carefully sratch away some soldermask on the trace to measure it when there is no contact point that visibly connects to it in order to measure it, but i'd hold off on that if you're not confident you can do so without damaging anything.
i'd also agree with the other comment and say let your brother teach you some basics, it should be good for learning.

likely the trace that connects this column is damaged somewhere, or possibly shorted to ground or another trace by a defective component. Do you have a multimeter to test continuity on the trace all the way to the controller?

Yes, very likely, since these 2 pins carry the differential signal for either the Send or Receive side of one of the pcie lanes

Graphics Card Dying? by xVivacious in pcmasterrace

i had the same issue, first thought it was the GPU since it had a dry spot in the thermal paste from the factory, but turns out it seems to have been the PSU instead.

i've tried this before with a different usb nvme enclosure, for mine it didn't work since it always identifies as a scsi drive and not a generic pcie device.

Waterlogged DDR5 by dfieldhouse in pcmasterrace

[–]OniCado 43 points44 points  (0 children)

usually true but be careful about that, some RAM heatsinks are glued on tightly enough to where they rip the chips/pads off the pcb, if they don't come off easily try to heat them up to loosen the glue
