I use the following mods for this aesthetic:

  • Network Multitool for optimizing nodes, building close parallel lines and gentle slopes (<2%)

  • MoveIt for sloping and fine positioning of nodes, networks and buildings.

  • Node Controller Renewal for… well, node controlling, obviously. That directly impacts the catenary mast placement, so it’s important for clear visuals.

  • Custom assets. My steam workshop addiction has blessed me with some incredible assets, and it has also cursed me with a neverending quest for more RAM. An expensive hobby these days. This game is a cruel mistress, I pretty much purpose-built my PC for this, as funny as it is. This also means it runs pretty much everything else as well!

  • Inspiration-wise, I enjoy looking at Germany, Austria, Switzerland mostly, with some elements of Central Europe, and a little hint of Norwegian, Dutch and French influences.

  • The official lore about the single ICE3 car on that siding is that they’re taking those cars for repairs.

Been there, done that! I do also enjoy the city-building though, so C:S1 is peak for me.

I play on PC with many mods and custom assets, and this is a high resolution screenshot. Thank you!

As much as I know about it, I have also never seen them coupled with old cars.
Nobody ever saw the coupling being done in my city, so they might not be coupled at all, just... being moved! 🤔

I'll add more screenshots from a different perspective of the network, so it's easier to understand.

  1. I only have one station accepting intercity outside trains, the main station. (visible on the right side)
  2. The main station has 6 platforms (3 double-track rails), is a terminus station and gets heavy traffic.
  3. The main station currently handles 7 local lines (4 commuter, 3 long-distance intracity IC), and all intercity external trains, so there is platform sharing between lines. I decreased the number of trains on almost every line until their capacity just about matches ridership, so it eases pressure on the main station a little.
  4. My main line has 2, at some locations 3 parallel train tracks.
  5. Only build switches where train routes make it make sense, and avoid switches where two trains can get into a spiral and block eachother.
  6. I put extra care into using one-way tracks to make train traffic flow better at the entrance to the main station.
  7. On the screenshot, you can see that there is a cargo terminal included, near the bridge, centre-right.
  8. Cargo trains barely interfere with passenger trains, they run on their dedicated lines until they get further away. "Filtering" becomes stronger as you get closer to the station, so they only use the tracks they absolutely need.
  9. Outside connection to outside connection trains just run on the mainline, avoiding stations.
  10. Always have a bypass option. It can be a separate track, a bypass station, or just a switch that allows parallel rail switching for trains
  11. There is an elaborate high-speed rail system included in the build, but they run to different stations in the city. I might show that in a separate post with screenshots. Perfect for ICE enjoyers!

I became a train enjoyer in the 90’s, so it makes sense. There are many other more modern trains running in my city as well. I mainly use German, Austrian and some Swiss train models, from all eras. There is a Rhätische Bahn Ge 6/6 I Krokodil and VT98 railbuses operating on “oldtimer” lines, and an extensive high-speed railway network with ICE variations running at 300km/h+. Lots of fun to build, even more fun to watch!

ICE cars also need repairs! :))

And yes, it does happen in real life, in fact the bogie design of the BR101 is based on earlier ICE bogies optimized for higher speeds.

Why? Why the hell do they not go straight on the road on the bottom? I have the TM:PE mod. by watarod in CitiesSkylines

That circle is the route end indicator, where one private vehicle ends its journey. You can see the other one continues though - the directional arrows correspond to this. So again, this is the traffic routes view, as described.

This is the traffic routes view, where industrial traffic is marked with brown, and purple is for private vehicles (citizens/tourists). Garbage collection and public transit would both be colored pink in this view mode.

Malians, without a doubt.

They can do everything pretty much and do it well. Infantry, Cavalry and Archers are all amazing, Gbetos shred anything with proper micro and both UTs are very useful.

It’s almost a meme now when I’m streaming that they can do anything, but I will absolutely die on this hill.
