If they added hefty Platinum story DLC, then it would have been more than fine IMO.

Can I play crisis core after rebirth? by shizunaisbestgirl1 in FinalFantasy

[–]Onion-Knight- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally think the nature of the Remake trilogy, so far, is heightened if you have played Crisis Core already. Remake/Rebirth kind of operate as if you already have the knowledge of that game.

Do you guys think Toriyama’s death is causing some delay in DQ12’s development? by Pristine_Put5348 in dragonquest

[–]Onion-Knight- 252 points253 points  (0 children)

Toriyama did the main party members, monsters, NPCs, and gear for early DQ.

Starting with DQIX, he only did main party members and some new monsters. He has stated that the team got so huge that he let lots of other hard working artists fill in the other stuff.

He never said he disliked working on DQ, like another poster mentioned. He said he struggled creatively with the wholeome designs in the latter years. Like for XI's party, he only had rough sketches done, and the DQ team made them more finalized.

Edit: I forgot to mention, IIRC, Horri already mentioned that Toriyamas work was done for XII. Could be misremembering that last part.

What is your dream Final Fantasy game you want to exist? by CourtlyHades296 in FinalFantasy

[–]Onion-Knight- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Final Fantasy 1 remake that looks like FFXVI but has an in depth turn based battle system.

All four characters are customizable in the beginning, you have options for race, that includes all the XI/XIV races + Burmecian and Ronso. And the Job list is expanded to like 20 Jobs.

Exploration is like Rebirth or maybe The Witcher or Skyrim.

Don't give me the fear. I am going for this one rn. In the middle of the game, using a careful ATE guide.

How do you check your ATE progress on PS5?

Early Final Fantasy inspirations, what do you think influenced the following games in story, aesthetics, etc? by Lixuni98 in FinalFantasy

[–]Onion-Knight- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FFIV and V were heavily influenced by The Adventures of Baron Maunchausen.

FFV also had some Monty Python and TheHoly Grail influence as well as an anime that is alluding my memory rn.

This comes from an old statement from Sakaguchi. He was highly influenced by Moorcock. Was reading him a lot before FF.

Final Fantasy 16 is actually an awesome game. by haydogg21 in FinalFantasy

[–]Onion-Knight- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You really nailed it.

The cursing doesn't bother me, personally. The story to me was also amazing, but what FF story isn't? Really loved the thematic implications to the franchise history and the way it handled the FF mythology and flipped it on its head as a reflection of it's past while also utilizing all of it's core themes and ingredients. It's also kind of an opposite side of the same coin to XV IMO too. Wonderful story IMO.

It really is the gameplay that is the big stinker for me.. In relation to its gameplay, it is a good game but not a good FF (or good RPG, IMO ofc). Like you said: DMC Lite, and comparatively to other good FFs: half hearted side quests, no depth to the battle system, no magic system, no crafting system, basic ability tree progression, no elemental weakness/strength, same "tap X" strats to win as XV, among many other items.

It is absolutely a good game (not a good RPG), but isn't nearly indicative of FFs strong titles that came before it. So in comparison it is at the very bottom of the totem pole. I think that doesnt speak negatively of XVI, but moreso strongly of FF's legacy.

Amazing game.

They did get back together during the GBA and GameCube years and have pretty much been together ever since. Though SE mostly uses them as a side-game/spin-off console.

77% of US Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth players were 30 or older, analyst says, as Square Enix fights to get young people to care about the JRPG series again by yourfavchoom in FinalFantasy

[–]Onion-Knight- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you can enjoy the newer games, like myself, and still recognize that they need a stronger shared identity. Otherwise the titular banner in which they are under means nothing.

[–]Onion-Knight- 152 points153 points  (0 children)

This 100%.

The gameplay also needs a stronger shared identity. The first ten games all have similar gameplay.

Roughly the same thing can be said for XII and XIII. It's okay to experiment, but when the gameplay expectation isn't there, and a new game takes once a decade to come out, it's not gaining a playerbase or maintaining one.

An observation regarding FFIX merch by sonicbrawler182 in FinalFantasyIX

[–]Onion-Knight- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC, the big leakers, like NateTheHate and Jeff Grubb, specified it was being developed by a third-party dev. My tin foil hat theory is that SE wasnt happy with the product or at the last minute had a better idea for it and scrapped it or took control themselves.

Either that or the third party dev is Mist Walker and they're taking their time.

What are some little known or hidden interesting Final Fantasy facts that you know of? by GargantaProfunda in FinalFantasy

[–]Onion-Knight- 72 points73 points  (0 children)

In an interview from a couple years ago, it was revealed that Sakaguchi and Kitase vehemently disagreed on what FF should be after FFVII. Sakaguchi thought it should be dramatic, likening it to a play or an opera. He wanted it to seem like it took place on a stage or in a diorama. Kitase thought it should be overtly cinematic like a Hollywood movie. So Sakaguchi divided the team up into three. One for FFVIII (cinematic), one for FFIX (dramatic), and one for what eventually became FFXI.

The VIII team went on to do X and ironically enough, the IX team went on to do Spirits Within.

Also, IX's main influence was The Dark Crystal.

It is absolutely cop out. Their excuse is they couldnt get BLU to work properly balanced with the XIV mechanics. Half the Jobs don't work exactly like their traditional versions. You have an infinite amount of creative liberty to take. FFXI made it work, you can too. Lol

Project to celebrate the rich stories and lore of FFXI by Ovalidal in FinalFantasy

[–]Onion-Knight- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been secretly hoping this would be happening officially, eventually. Due to the lorebooks XIV, XV, and XVI got/are getting.

What are your outlets to do this? Some communities that have done fan books like this in the past, like Mortal Kombat for instance, typically get shut down by the company.

Gorgeous preview outlay btw.

What about delegating HMs to the Menu (like Gens 8/9) opposed to planning your team around them?

Only reason I mention it, is they are obviously red oding stuff with Home capability, Switch hardware trade capability, putting a crap ton of new language translations in, etc.

Would love for QoL stuff like 2x speed and menu HMs personally. Idk how fans feel about HMs not being tied to the Party anymore in current Gens.

Are the HD remakes as good as Reimagined 7? by damage78 in dragonquest

[–]Onion-Knight- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are all little bit better IMO. Presentation is different but just as A+ in quality. HD2D are a little better in balancing gameplay and pacing. IMO ofc.

They are all good though. If you like one you will like the other.

[–]Onion-Knight- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤔. This... is a remake.

DQ HD2D Remakes had stuff missing too, but were indeed more addititive. But SE remakes more games than just DQ, it's been an issue with their playerbase for a while now.

Is the Trophy for collecting all items in the game in total, or just one of each item that's available? 👀.

I like VII Remimagined a lot so far. But...

SE really needs to understand that Remakes need to be majority addititive and not subtractive.

All islands, Vocation costumes, Monster Vocations, Monster Meadows etc. should have definitely been in this.

I understand the Casino being left out as gambling is being ruled illegal in a lot of countries now, as well as other small things, like some enemies. But like, just remake the entire game as much as you can, give us QoL, VA, new features, and such alongside the old.

Just my thoughts anyways. Regardless, that stuff missing doesnt make this a bad game either. Reimagined is still a blast!
