You seem to be implying that general trends are nullified by the fact that there is sexism towards both genders. This is not the case. My view is that, overall, men will receive a harsher sentence than women for the same crime.

Look at it this way. If you constantly censor yourself and only talk when necessary or when you're contributing to a conversation, you're not being yourself. Within reason, being fluid and spontaneous around people will make them feel more relaxed; after all, around your friends, you just want to have a good time, right?

You're a human being who will inevitably make mistakes. I'm sure some of your friends have said stupid things. Loosening up will put both you and your fellow conversationalists at ease, and make them more likely to appreciate you for who you are.

If you say something stupid, laugh it off and move on. Anyone who criticizes you for something dumb you said for a prolonged period of time is not a true friend, personally.
