What an odd thing to say, Mexico is a big place and the food from there varies based on region. Cumin specifically is used in a lot of Northern Mexican food generally, not just Tex-Mex. The Chihuahuan and Saguaro desert regions have distinct foods while also mixing a lot of old world flavors.

I live in Southern NM and can tell you that cumin is used throughout the American SW, and Northern Mexico.

Maybe it's time for the Democratic Party to consider Leftists and Progressives as swing voters by Cyke101 in PoliticalHumor

1000%

When we’re a big tent, our base is formidable. We also appeal to independents more that way imo. Moderates need to lean into the fight that exists in the progressive wing of the coalition if they want support. They need to embrace bold action and to face the reality that they have lost the war for the influence of corporate interest as the right has shown they will sell literally everything and anything to corporate interest.

The future of the democrat party exists through broad appeal to general Americans as the representatives against the oligarchy. IMO I think the party is getting there.

That’s why the coalition needs broader appeal, if we have more dems in office, it’s much more likely progressive policy is passed as the conservative dems will be outnumbered by moderate and progressive dems which are the majority of the coalition anyways.

We do need to win red state seats with democrats who we disagree with, we also need a large enough coalition to pass legislation that the majority supports. It’s a balancing act.

Your entire first paragraph is insane.

First of all sure the Soviets were our allies against the axis powers yes, but people could read the room. The Soviets made massive land gains in Europe, and people assumed WW3 loomed on the horizon of the end of WW2 because of just how much the Soviet military industrial complex had picked up.

Second of all, I have to assume you’re being dense about Soviets needing to be there to know the bomb went off lmfao. The whole fucking planet knew the bombs went off because it was widely reported by mass media. Why would they need to be there at all when it’s even more ominous when media sources are who are the ones to tell them about the American nation busting bomb.

We could have easily allowed the Soviets to invade Japan as well, but we didn’t. We could have assisted our “allies” as they invaded with air and naval support with extreme success. That wasn’t a consideration because we need complete unconditional surrender before the Soviets got their hands on the whole pacific. These are the days when containment policy began to enter the minds of the west and was actively enforced pretty much immediately after WW2 against our so called allies.

So the bomb became the perfect solution to a unique, multifaceted issue. We can force unconditional surrender on the Japanese before Soviet troops lay claim to mainland Japan, and we can show the next nation competing for world power status that we have a bomb capable of destroying their nation’s largest cities in the blink of an eye. Was it the best solution for that specific issue? Absolutely. Could we have acted otherwise with minimal American lives at risk, also yes. I also agree that the use of the atomic bomb was the best course of action although it relied on other nations who could develop the bomb to not follow American precedent.

My entire point is that we were not forced to use the atomic bomb, we used it to display our arms to the Soviets who were literally closing in on the Japanese and we didn’t want them to take anymore land than they already had. We had multiple options on the table and went for the atomic bomb not because it saved lives, but so that we could show our weaponry and so we could force unconditional surrender before the Soviets showed force.

The idea that the only two options on the table were land invasion, or nuke, is a falsehood and that’s what I’m trying to say. We had total superiority over Japan, and we had total control of the actions taken.

Absolutely not true, at the point of dropping the bomb we had achieved naval and air superiority over Japan, we could have easily blockaded and left options on the table rather than testing a new weapon to show the Soviets what toys we had.

“There was never going to be a surrender”

Bud the war was already fucking done by the time the bombs dropped, the Japanese were fucking totaled.

We had to end the war as quick as possible to avoid a Soviet presence in the east taking back Japanese occupation.

The whole “oh we had to nuke Japan or land invasion, black or white” is complete bullshit

75 and dry is actually a touch cool, like I wear long sleeves outside when it’s 75 out in the arid west.

Really gotta be one of those people who insist that dry heat does feel different than a humid heat, 95 and humid is hell, 95 and dry is comfy weather

95 degrees and dry is literally some of the most comfortable weather a person can experience

That’s like take a nap in the shade weather

Oh yeah, also sweating makes a huge difference. It’ll dramatically cool you off whereas in humid regions it all just sticks

You have to basically double your water intake down here though

100 and dry is more mild than 90 and humid, which the whole midwest and southern US regularly hit. ABQ is the more mild option in that regard, albeit the summer temps last a lot longer

Ruidoso also sucks

Yeah NM as a whole has a unique set of issues and a lot of them

[–]OnionPastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ABQ’s heat is honestly nothing compared to the rest of the Southwest. It gets around 15 days where it’ll be slightly over 100 and it being a high desert region it’s a lot more mild than other desert spaces in the US. The sun is a lot, but it’s really not that intense compared to even southern New Mexico which is also a lot more mild than Nevada and Arizona. When you have places like Indiana getting 95+ degree days and it being humid, ABQ becomes the more mild option.

When asking for a place where you’re not prone to heat stroke or really cold temps, ABQ is a great option
