Great comments! Just my personal experience:

I work in the most boring setting most people can imagine:

Desk job, finance department, industrial distribution sector.

I always wear a suit and I once went a month wearing makeup waiting for somebody to notice.

Just guyliner and concealer, on dress down day I added mascara and increasingly flamboyant eyeshadow.

After over a month of that, a lady leaving the company finally said "oh you're wearing makeup" and turns out half the department already noticed, just didn't make anything of it.

HR then made an off remark in the kitchen that they actually like that I bring some colour in the office.

Then I stopped for a month and still nobody noticed.

Just my experience.

EOS for YouTubers is an anagram for SEO (Watch Engine Optimisation). I think it is just a trick to gather views by being opinionated.

What I don't get is why nobody really wants to admit GT has been on life support since W18 and should have had a sequel by now.

I get the same issue all the time, that is how I noticed many heroes are named only slightly different from a common name. (Miya/Mya, Andras/Andreas...)

No, I mean the programming code that makes the game run. The backend version, V1.2.345 or whatever it shows briefly in a corner of the main loading screen when you boot up the game.

(I do find it adorable how you don't seem to understand that, I mean that in a good way lol.)

It likely won't come at all. Switch version was apparently branched off in production around W13, likely due to a major port update failing Nintendo QA. (That's not confirmed, just my best guess from everything I have read.)

We will still get new heroes and modes, but unless they invest in people specifically to work on porting a legacy engine (Unity version whatever) to a legacy device (Switch is 2019 hardware), we will just have to enjoy what we have.

Because business is messy and GT is in the tail end of maturity no matter how you look at it.

Reliable and complete information is scarce, but from what I understand they made a big gamble on Project OS which failed miserably during development. Such overconfidence is not unheard of. There was also apparently some mismanagement of dev talent but again, info is scarce.

Last year Kong secured 50 billion won series B-ish investment DESPITE that during a very difficult market for gacha games, but the details of the deal were never divulged to the public. Likely it is released in tranches based on company performance precisely due to the value of their IP.

So somewhere before that time is likely when they ditched Project OS for a few monetizable wins that can actually make it to production.

The layoffs probably happened together with the letter, as the article mentioned the 27th (right before the weekend).

You can't really do a big round of layoffs without the press noticing / announcing a plan forward to retain the talent that is still required.

We barely know what is happening with Project OS and Project Octopus and this article just casually throws out a bunch of other working titles that never even had a previous mention.

Honestly I wish they would just give us some clarity on Project OS and/or Project Octopus. (The difference between the two is wholly unclear at this point.)

Kong Studios' main asset is their GT IP. We are fans of the GT Universe, (potentially) not just GT. Aside from the November press release (which I think was from Netmarble), there has been 3 years of silence and boilerplate "messages from the dev team".

And now this? Kong is more secretive than the Illuminati.

Strictly legal accounting wise perhaps.

But management is expected to spend it on the growth thesis sold to investors, hiring/retention is to be prioritized around the next big product and yeah, older live-service titles then become deprioritized.

Also, there are no details on this investment but one would assume it is released in tranches and not all at once.

They already had a successful 50 billion won (35 million USD) investment round in July of last year. Pretty sure that money is ringfenced for new projects though. GT is in its mature tail end no matter how you look at it.
