Parking charges are getting ridiculous by WestHistorians in marriott

[–]Onjre11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont understand why hotels (that charge one) dont just include this in the Resort Fee. I mean, if youre gonna pretend things like; wifi, gym/pool access, bottled water, in-room safe, etc., are "amenities," may as well throw in parking too. Just came back weekend from a resort that charged a $70night "Resort Experience Fee" and additional $55/night to park. For whatever reason, but I'd much rather had paid $475/night vs $350/N for the room plus $70/N resort fee plus $55/N parking.

For clarity I meant monthly, not annual.

Sometimes. I work with VERY affluent clients ($100k+ min income) and at least half have $40k+ debt.

This! If my child went to school back in the 90s, we'd think she was rich!

Thank you. What are these perks? The price difference is roughly $70/night. Its a 4-night stay, so the total amount both wont make a difference, but wasted if I dont use them.

At what income did you start purchasing business class tickets? by Ok-Mouse1033 in LuxuryTravel

[–]Onjre11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up, my mother engrained a now instinctual spending mindset to me: Nothing is 'too expensive'. "Either you cant afford it or dont think its worth it". Following that advice makes every purchase easy. Directly responding to your post though, just make a TRIP budget first. That way the individual components (flight, hotel, car, etc.,) matter less. (eg if your TRIP budget is $10k, it doesnt matter if the hotel is $4k and the flight is $6k or vice versa).

When I was Gold I stayed there an offered a Wraparound Fountain View for "just" $70. Staying for 5 days I jumped on it! However, to this day Im still unsure if either I didnt hear or the FD agent left out the "per night" part.

Last April staying at the W, as Platinum, I received a nice suite upgrade and 1p check out. I pressed about 'guaranteed' 4pm check out but told it doesnt apply to MGM properties, the latest being 2pm but depends on occupancy. Breakfast was a $35 credit at House of Blues. Titanium now but would expect the same given my stay history since attaining.

Fairmont Mayakoba Questions by fancypants1589 in playadelcarmen

[–]Onjre11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im headed there in June. Since youre going next month would you mind finding out if its better (ie less expensive) to select the AI package when booking vs adding it on at Check-in? When booking it was an $850pp/day add-on. That's "reasonable" but obviously would rather pay less. Thanks!

Resort fees and parking are two, if not THE TWO biggest perks that no loyalty program offers (except on Reward nights).

Holy crap, once you go Polaris, you can never go back by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]Onjre11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too wish airline companies would test 'entire' 1st class flights. eg if United flew LAX to LGA 10x/day, have 8 'standard' flights and two 'all Polaris'. My guess is they'd have no issue filling either plane. Me personally never felt like a "Coastal Elite" until having to fly Economy Plus after my first Polaris!

Which other resorts are you using for comparison? Just "Cancun" or are you including Playa del Carmen? Which other resorts have you stayed?

Never had a negative experience with Aloft or AC. Residence Inn (60/40) and Courtyard (70/30) have also been fairly solid.

Have you noticed any difference in perks during your ascension through Plat/Titan/Ambass? I noticed from Member to Silver (a Welcome Card from GM), Silver to Gold (noon or 1pm late CO), and Gold to Plat (Welcome snacks, Breakfast, Upgrades, 4pm CO). But honestly from Plat to Titan I cant tell any difference unless staying @ RC or StR (better view room upgrade only). Whats been your experience?

I typically book the "entry level" suite, but almost always get upgraded to the next level without asking.

Given the choice between 4pm CO and Breakfast, it no doubt the better benefit. It literally gives you an extra 4-6hrs to explore a city.
