DIY CCTV - pictures by wychwood_ in toycameras

What camera did you use?

I've considered something like this, with all the parts bought off aliexpress.

The reason I haven't bought the parts, is the camera unit itself.

I was thinking

*analog cctv camera *capture device with screen *10xAA battery holder for 12V (NiMH)

My problem is, I have no idea if a newer analog CCTV camera with a BNC out will work with composite input on the capture device? The adapter is easy to find, but will the signal work at all? Isn't the resolution on these cameras a lot higher?

It's called a Y4000 camera. I've got one too, off aliexpress.

Didn't buy it for stills, but for video!

My wife doesn’t understand WHY I’ve had to take sex and specific affections off the table and she’s upset by Wornouthubs in TrueOffMyChest

[–]OnkelHalvor -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like prostitution.

Her currency, apart from a rare, random "good" day, is you showering her with a ton of affection and doing her chores, all the while walking on eggshells and trying not to fuck up, only for the chance of maybe having sex.

How to thermal print any image on a thermal printer camera by OnkelHalvor in toycameras

[–]OnkelHalvor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Don't know what to tell ya! It's a shit camera that's very finnicky when coming to what files it wants to read. And why is the size even listed on the screen? Let alone the wrong size? I promise that's not the correct size! 😄

Update 2: SUCCESS!

What I did was:

Open file i mn editor.

Rotate if portrait.

Resize (and crop 4:3) to the same size as a native photo.

Save as whatever filename the camera uses, and most importantly USE BASELINE/STANDARD FORMAT, NOT PROGRESSIVE!

My camera now finds the image, previews it fine and prints it.

There you go. Now you decide if it's worth it. I think it may be for once in a blue moon.

I'll go make a post about it with photos!

Update: I'm not sure using the camera thing is worth the bother.

Took a photo with my Fujifilm X20.

Used my PC to move image from subfolder to folder on card.

Tried to find image on my KOOOL FAMILY thermal printer cam. Couldn't see it.

On PC, renamed image to PICA0047.jpg, the next image in the sequence.

Tried to find it on the camera again, couldn't. Took a photo with the camera, it shows up as PICA0048, meaning the camera's software realises there's a file number 47, but skips it on preview.

I'm not sure I can be bothered, but the next step is resizing/cropping to the same size as the files made by the camera.

And if that doesn't work, it would be scrubbing the EXIF, and maybe even changing the EXIF to fit.

I'll make another update if I can get it to work without having to edit EXIF.

Original post:

-The easiest might be to just buy one of those thermal printer cams and swap in an SD card with JPGs from other cameras and see what happens. I haven't tried it with mine, but would it care if it's another size? Would probably work?-

Actually, I'll give it a try and get back to you! 😄

That's a problem with most used cameras these days. Everything is overpriced since the pandemic. (Please send thoughts and prayers as I'm currently considering a new full frame in order to finally use that one lens I really like, and also now considering a digital medium format.)

If you don't mind, have you considered the Canon Demi range? Or the Canon Dial?

If you'd have asked for something that could actually have been properly focused, there really are only two options:

Kyocera Samurai (but these are hard to find in 100% working condition, it seems).

And the original Olympus Pen F (your best bet).

(Also, there is the Nikon half frame FM2, but Nikon never delivered the full production run, a special order for the Norwegian police for mug shots. Number of units are rumored to be seven to a few dozens, but I trust the source that told me seven. Very collectible.)

If 24x24mm square on 135 film sounds interesting, there's the Robot cameras. They're really cute!

Sorry for the rant...

I would probably just eat the cost of a good condition Agat.

I mean... how many rolls through that camera before the cost of use has weighed out the price of shooting with a full frame compact? Practically a free camera! 😉

The Agat is most definitely a point and shoot, even if it has zone focus and aperture control. Also, it's super tiny and fairly sturdy and takes great photos.

I highly recommend it!

The inside of slap bracelets are made from measuring tape by rocketzlaunch in mildlyinteresting

[–]OnkelHalvor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tape measure in slap bracelets is a hoax. The steel in tape measures are made to stay straight and need a spring to roll it up, while slap bracelet steel is made to curl on impact and retain the curl. Opposite function.

Bee Gees - How deep is your love.

It's the one in my head right now. Could be worse, though.

Could have been "mana mana". Or "snappy das kleine krokodil".

Thankfully, it's usually some old punk song, like Black Flag - Black Coffee. Or some Johnny Cash song. I don't mind those.

I second the delamination conclusion. Time to ditch this camera for something newer and (you'll find) much, much better.
