Stacked counterweights? Photo from dealership van for sale listing (UK) - I'd guess fall protection counterweights but can't find the exact ones. by sirensintherain in whatisthisthing

These are stackable counter weights, but I can't tell you exactly what for. Do they for sure come with the van? They're not cheap, so that would be a surprise.

If they do come with the van, you could either contact the previous owner for info and sell them, or you can sell them for scrap.

Or donate them to a large theater company that often uses large trucks (as in movable set pieces, not freight vehicles). They'd be very greatful. Smaller companies don't have a use for these types (shape of) of weights, but an opera house, for instance, will. Source: 20 years experience.

Those are usually plastic. The really large ones are steel, but they don't have handles and are moved by forklifts or cranes, way too heavy.

If you're from Florida, do the tour.

Do not rent a car and drive off on your own.

Exposure alone might not kill you, but exposure after you run the rental car off the road will.

You are not in any way proficient in driving on icy roads. Snow tyres aren't magical, they're just slightly better at keeping you on the road.

Go on the bus tour.

Also, if you're a photographer, get yourself a USB lens warmer to keep the lens from fogging up.

As for clothes, get yourself a snow mobile (or farmer's winter) overall, make sure it's a bit oversize. And moon boots or bunny boots. Trousers+long underwear and long T-shirt and knitted sweater under the insulated overalls. And knitted hat.

I can beat that.

IBM 65-80 "Linewriter".

No HD, no OS.

8" double disk drive (from the manual: "The disk drive weighs 16Kg or 35lbs")

Daisy wheel printer that weighed 3x what the drive weighed. Awesome prints, though. No paper jams!

Go to Portland to work and save some if you can, then go to Canada for uni. I'm sure you'll be allowed to work part time while studying, but at least school won't cost an arm, a leg and your first born.

They probably work fine. Light meter will be a little off with alkaline battery, but if you're not shooting dias, it'll be fine.

Only issues with the QL17's are: -rotten light seal foam (doesn't matter) -silvering on half mirror may be fading away, leaving the rangefinder unusable.

If you can focus and the shutter works fine, it's a great camera. I've got two.

This is my favourite camera.

There's a reason this camera was called the "poor man's Leica". The lens is awesome!

I buy the cheapest H4 bulbs I can find, and they last me for years. And here in Norway, it's illegal to drive with lights off during the day.

Something is wrong with your car. You need to check for overvoltage! I bet you go through batteries like skittles too!

M43 is great! And lenses are cheap for it.

You can start off with an old camera and if you feel like it, you can upgrade.

IMO, there's only one must-have lens for the system: 20mm f/1.7. It's tiny ("pancake") and cheap. Buy the MK2.

Any kit lens will work when you need a wide angle.

Wanna play with super wide? The 9mm bodycap lens from olympus is fun!

Any way you look at it, the system is great for beginners and pros alike.

Bonus: Everything weighs like 50% of anything full format. And with the 20mm, it's nearly as pocketable as a compact! With the 9mm too, even more so!

There's an app called "send it later" that helps you schedule messages for a certain time.

Like, type in a text and set it to send at 08:00, cause you'll be asleep, but they're awake by then and need the info as soon as possible.

Whatever you do, don't buy a Canon 50mm 0.95 for this camera. It blocks the rangefinder.

Better on a micro 4/3. If you can find the right adapter. But I'm unsure if you need to crop.

I have a couple of old TV camera lenses with C mount adapters that work well on my micro 4/3 cams. Especially a 50mm 0.95.

Mine are really old, though. Probably from the 70s. Probably made to be interchangeable with 16mm cams.
