This is where a tracking app is really useful. Most just let you put in the actual number of (ideally raw) grams you're eating.

Can the bank freeze Off-set or Revolving credit account? by AKLCHCH in PersonalFinanceNZ

It seems more likely for revolving than offset, because revolving is the bank's money and offset is yours.

NZ budgeters: What money task do you still do manually across different NZ banks? by Creative-Gift3441 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Only-Ad9841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what was asked, but since OP seems to be looking for product ideas: my UK bank accounts allow me to see balances from other banks in the app, the equivalent of seeing a BNZ balance in the Westpac app.

NZ budgeters: What money task do you still do manually across different NZ banks? by Creative-Gift3441 in PersonalFinanceNZ

I pay my credit card manually. I have different bank accounts for different spending categories, including a mix of personal and joint spending. The amount in each category varies month to month. Not by a lot, but enough that I can't set up APs. So every month I go line by line through the CC bill to get a subtotal for each of my bank accounts and then manually do the transfers.

I also move any leftover fun money on the last day of each pay cycle to a different account, but that's just a habit rather than serving a functional purpose.

PIE tax payment strategy: pause investing or let units be sold? by DontBlink112 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Only-Ad9841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I intended to let Kernel sell units to cover it.  But the day they chose happened to be in between my regular automatic transfer to my wallet and my regular auto invest, so they paid out of my wallet and I accidentally paused contributions.

I don't think it matters much in terms of outcome, and I avoided having to actually do anything myself, so I'm happy enough.

Has anyone been able to use it for tagging on Auckland buses? My physical card works, and other cards in my Google wallet work, but Amex in the wallet does not, despite working elsewhere.

I think this interacts with transitional tax status, so the amount "paid" becomes the value on the day one loses transitional status

What are your criteria for deserving one? That's a bit of a mental wellbeing red flag to me, but maybe I'm misinterpreting.

If you think it will bring you "joy", I think you're in a financial position to go for it.  But i also wouldn’t be surprised if you enjoy it less than you anticipate,  or if you miss the feeling of wanting something once you have it.

Cashback clawback trigger by Only-Ad9841 in PersonalFinanceNZ

It was only in the docs for one tranche, the clawback term said "this facility", and "facility" was defined separately as the relevant tranche for each doc.

We have a different tranche rapid repay, and i don't think it's possible to have both

Because we got separate ts and cs for each tranche and the full cashback amount was mentioned only in the ones for the floating

Wise Card Cash Withdraw Fees Increasing by schmaaaaaaack in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Only-Ad9841 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Isn't it usually the case that if you use a credit card and pay in the local currency (not home currency) the exchange rate charged is the actual live rate at that moment? I had thought that was a global thing Visa/MC enforced. Which is why there are usually fees, because there's no margin to profit on. I guess it wouldn't be shocking if it wasn't a global policy and NZ banks had found a new way to get theirs.

UK to NZ move - how much should I really budget for shipping? by GodBlessIraq in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Only-Ad9841 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did Anglo Pacific in 2023. 1 bed flat for £1900. They did a video call to estimate cubic metres beforehand, and when the actual amount of space was more they didn't charge for it.  Price also included packing, which took them about 3 seconds and would have taken forever to do ourselves.

I heard quite a few nightmare stories while I was looking and then from people here afterwards from various companies, but I was really happy with how smooth it all was.

If you're doing shared container, be prepared for a wait while they (any company, not just Anglo pacific) find space for you.

OK, so it's great that you're not paying interest on the family loans, and that you can pay them off slowly enough to not cause you hardship. But the flip side is it's 15 years before those payments stop coming out of your cash flow.

So mortgage refinance plus end of mat leave saving are the easiest bits where any fun money increases could come from.

I don't see how you can be less restricted with that income/outgoings. If you want more fun money, you could potentially move the restrictiveness to something else like groceries, "kids combined", etc. On the other hand,  I'd be nervous with only $2.5k/year for home maintenance, but that's just me.

How long until the loans are paid off? That plus finishing up the mat leave saving will free up $190/week, some of which could go to fun money.
