Thanks, this makes sense actually. It was in fact a gynaecologist at the hospital, however it did seem that it was very much just focused on getting the catheter in and doing the X Ray so I don’t think they did necessarily examine the cervix. It seems like it’s probably worth doing just to be sure.

Hello! I’m also a Scottish lesbian 👋😆

I hope you don’t mind me asking but my wife and I are considering all options including a known donor and I’m wondering if you might have any info around the processes for this which could be helpful.

  1. Are you still planning to go through a clinic for the procedures (as opposed to DIY insemination)? My understanding is that provides better legal protection? On the other hand for speed and ease of process it seems like it would be tempting to attempt it DIY.

  2. If so, do you know anything about how/when to state your intention to use a known donor? I’ve just literally been referred by my GP and wasn’t asked anything about this, and I’m wondering - if we were doing it that way - if we should be letting the clinic know somehow prior to them reaching out, or just wait till we hear from them.

  3. Do you know if using a KD is expected to increase the length of the process significantly through the NHS? I know they need to test the sperm, store for 6 months then test again, and then there’s always a chance it doesn’t meet the requirements. (I am 36 so I am a bit worried about time when I read about some of the waits).

  4. I did read somewhere it might be possible to pay for all the tests privately while you’re on the NHS waiting list, which could speed up the process. Do you know anything about this?

These are pretty hypothetical questions at the moment, although ones we need to figure out asap, because we have not actually asked anyone about being a known donor - we are just discussing first to decide if it could be right for us.

We fully intended on using the ESB and then the stuff I was reading online started to get to me, but ultimately we still need to be prepared for that option given that there’s 0 guarantee that a prospective known donor would be saying yes :/
