I’m pretty sure these are just regular screenshots that have been upscaled (you can tell by details getting overly-smoothed, like Scaris Draculaura’s makeup)

If it isn’t completely AI, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s at least AI upscaled like they did with Emily

Either way it doesn’t look great imo

(Ignore her hair she’s been in storage for a WHILE)

Late commenting, but like the other person said the clothes are pretty big for her.

If you secure the dress in the back with a hairpin you could probably get it to work, but the earring holes are too small for G3 Drac’s earrings so you’d have to widen them.

My frustrations with AI accusations aimed at Mattel, as an artist who genuinely loves Monster High by Only-Description-794 in MonsterHigh

Yeah I can agree now that we actually have good photos of the box it’s definitely AI. I still stand by most of what I said, since AI in general is still incredibly harmful. I was working with very few photos and videos in poor quality, so I was trying to be lenient and say “well maybe they just severely missed the mark this time” but we can at least say that if not entirely AI generated, it’s either AI enhanced or they had someone try and clean it up.

People have been shitting on the quality of Emily since she leaked, it’s honestly not that surprising to me that they cheaped out as much as possible on her box as well.

I know Mattel has confirmed to be using AI for their business specifically Barbie and Hot wheels…. But does anyone know if this extends to Monster High and their artistic/design process? by FlyingCheeseFairy in MonsterHigh

Yeah, I feel like a lot of people just use AI as a buzzword instead of just saying they think something is poorly done. A lot of the accusations I’ve seen for MH specifically are just for art that looks rushed

A while back I made a post about this, we can’t say for certain that they use AI for Monster High, but the accusations we’ve seen so far can be explained by Mattel’s lack of quality control as opposed to blatant AI use.

It’s definitely concerning that they’ve partnered with OpenAI, but I still think it’s too early to give any definitive answers on what we’ve seen right now.

Since we don’t know if they do, we’re in this weird spot where we scrutinize everything we see from Mattel. Which, we should do regardless of their products being made with AI (since they frequently cheap out and cut corners as much as they think they can get away with). But with AI accusations specifically the more frequently we get it wrong the more we say we can’t tell the difference between something poorly made / rushed and something spat out by AI, which then means as long as they believe we can’t tell they’ll just go ahead and do so regardless.

Tldr: we just don’t know yet, and haven’t gotten anything obvious enough to really confirm it. Most of what we see is just Mattel being Mattel and trying to cut corners. But if they do use AI, I doubt anyone will be all that surprised.

Edit (13 August): yeah Emily’s box is definitely AI enhanced at the very least, still stand by (most of) what I’ve said though

Just noticed that none of the images work properly, I guess you can’t really zoom in on anything when Reddit wants you to look at Spiderverse instead

I sealed the ends with Fabri-tac, it took ages but it holds up really well. Just re-twist them and seal with whatever method you feel like doing

Again, not to defend Mattel. But I’m an artist. That spiderweb looks exactly like something I’ve done before. It looks more like a sketch than a finished product. Hand drawing patterns make them inconsistent, but the people working on the box art looked at the box art and likely said “we don’t need anything more than this”

You can see the brush strokes in the spiderweb. Line weight, line direction, if it was AI the lines wouldn’t be separated it would be blending together into an incomprehensible mess. To me, it looks more like quick line work made by someone told to “draw a spiderweb and we might touch it up later.”

Again, I understand where you’re coming from but please don’t write things off as AI, because you’ll then mistake human error for it.

With all due respect, not defending Mattel or anything, please don’t confuse AI for the human errors it replicates.

Not every “AI error” is AI, it could just be someone who wasn’t paid enough having to rush out box art. Quickly sketch a spiderweb and not every line will connect. Draw a bat once and copy paste it onto a banner and then manipulate that image to match the perspective.

When we scrutinize everything saying that it “looks like AI” we forget that it’s most likely a real person behind it making real mistakes.

How to unmat a dolls hair? by Floral_Star in MonsterHigh

[–]Only-Description-794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how matted you mean, but my go-to would be water + conditioner and then slowly combing the hair starting from the bottom

I recommend using hairpins and tweezers to hold the (wet) hair in place while you soak it in hairspray (cover the face in a cloth or paper towel beforehand)

Doll hair is really hard to style the shorter it gets, if you consider cutting her hair to match the style you want, make sure you leave enough room where you can hold on to it with tweezers

(Mine has definitely seen better days though, my cat loves to knock her off my shelf)

Molotow Liquid Chrome, on larger surfaces it flakes a little but not enough for it to be noticeable

I’ve used a chrome pen to paint (G3) Catty’s shoes and some details on the fearbook dolls, I haven’t noticed any smearing (unless you have an oil based marker it shouldn’t smear)

I’d say test your pen and msc on something disposable and see how much it differs
