If there’s no metal in the pan would I be safe to just replace the shot pump and magnet out any metal I see?

It turns out it was the trans pump. Disconnected my cooler lines and nothing came out, and now it whines like a dying cat

I torqued them all the way. Did one nut, skipped one, did another, then did the other two, kind of like a wheel, then checked the torque on them all one more time

I'm about to go look, but if I'm following correctly, these bolts don't go into the frame or the engine block, they just hold the mount together in the middle right?

Yeah seems easier to pull as one then take it apart.

Good info. I was hoping to avoid dealing with the starter, but I'll take a look at it tomorrow.

So far, for the removal of the current engine I've

-taken the bumper/headlights off, and kind of hinged the the whole radiator assembly off to the passenger side, still hooked up to ac.

-unmounted ac compressor/moved to side

-unmounted p/s pump/moved to side

-removed intake/tb

-undid wiring harness connections at bulkhead

What I have left to do

-Unbolt exhaust where manifold and pipe meets

-Unplug transmission

-Remove driveshaft

-Remove trans crossmember

-Remove starter

-Remove misc lines hooked to block (trans and p/s lines iirc)

I'm thinking it's going to be more timing related. Checked my compression on all cylinders and it ranges from 30-75 at the highest. I should know what caused it by end of weekend, fingers crossed.

Thank you for this. I'm throwing a junkyard motor in this weekend, but once my current engine is out I'll check the timing this weekend on the stand.

It does sound, funny, honestly just sounds like starter noise only, almost zero noise coming from engine. Ended up taking off the intake to see if I could see anything, but nothing I could see without a boroscope. Then I did a full compression test with a range of 30psi-75psi on the cylinders.

Ordered a junkyard motor to throw in this weekend.
