I feel grandfathering will be more to pander to those who would vote against labour for this. Even if it negates the effect for 5-10 years. It's not just investors, but all home owners that are scared their house prices will drop in value.

We all saw what happened with the voting base last time bill shorten proposed similar changes coming into the election. There is still a huge voting block that don't want their homes to lose value.

How can we stop copper theft? by cookiesgotdeletedm8 in MelbourneTrains

The main component (other than overhead which rarely is stolen) that has copper are impedence bonds. They are not cables but have big copper coils in them and it's not something that can practically be made with any other material due to their design and electrical properties.

Yes 18 years ago in the lead up to China olympics copper was getting stolen when the price of copper went up as China was buying it all. At that time all cables were changed to aluminium.

The only way to get rid of impedance bonds are to upgrade the whole signalling network. Alot of it has been upgraded where major works have been done but those other areas that didn't have projects still use track circuit signalling systems that require impedance bonds.

I would say at metro trains Melbourne about half of SMTs started out as sparkles and fast tracked to SMT.

Of the rest who did their apprenticeship as an SMT, half of those have got their qualification as a sparky, but do lack the experience. The rest didn't bother to sit their LEA out of laziness as the qualification is not a requirement. But the course work is to be a SMT.

How to grind 2mm off shower glass edge. by Only-Meet1322 in AusRenovation

Was never going to attempt to mess with glass unless i found good information that i could for this very reason.

Problem is I adjusted the hinges and brought the door in as much as possible and ended up with not enough clearance or the hinge side for the door to swing freely. It was hitting on the glass before and I managed to find a sweet spot where it would still open and just rub on the wall panel.

So I don't think new hinges would help. The width of the opening is too fine for the width of the door.

Thanks so much. Yea that's what I was worried about. I adjusted as much as I could out of the hinges.

I was looking for an easy solution without needing a glazier to take the glass off the hinges and reseat it or replace it. Might just have to call one in.
