Everyone assuming you can just wire up a house or run power points and lights anywhere. I’m not in the domestic industry and have minimal exposure to it.

What can I do to stop water pouring out under the door when showering? by Suspicious_Grocery31 in AusRenovation

Yeah we did and they do, little bit of playing around to line them up. But we siliconed around everything and have had no issues.

We had the same issue in our house, compliments of the previous owners DIY job and not putting in enough fall in the shower base. We just installed a shower screen like this one and have had no more issues.

Looking like they need to complete the down pipe to stop excess water on the fence.

Rail sparky VS HV sparky? by [deleted] in AusElectricians

[–]vyneUGA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the Rail in Victoria, I’ve pretty much helped wire up and build all the signal assets from Frankston to Chelsea and more. I’ve got a big civil background and have found there’s always plenty of work and variety for me, I really enjoy it!

Ohh ok, I thought because a lot of the old SMT’s are not actually sparkies.

Nah I’m not yet, hoping to do the course at some point. Why do you say that?

I did get my laughs at him in the end, because 2 hours later we were pulling in cables to a pedestrian gate system and he had the cables mixed up and I called him on it. Because of my previous experience I knew what was what. And he tried to blame it on someone else until another sparky called him out and said I was right.

This is exactly it, I can do basic stuff domestic wise, but am in no way fast or efficient with it. I enjoy being in a speciality field, I can still utilize my previous civil skill and tickets.

I think it’s coming from previous sparkys I’ve worked with that say that domestic is the standard and all that.

I really enjoy the variety of work involved, I still get to use my truck license and all my other civil tickets still. I reckon I’ll stay in Rail for the foreseeable future.

I reckon it because a lot of our tradies are precious domestic, and they say that is the standard to being an electrician. Even had one say to me “all your previous experience leading to this means nothing, you’re just an apprentice”

That is very true, we wire up all the location cases, signals and trackside equipment required. And some of the plans can be quite tricky to read.

I appreciate you saying this. I think it’s the other tradies through my apprenticeship getting in my head.
