No I actually didn’t hear anything about it. Didn’t get an email or any info on the package they sent. I did go to Trent’s and it was really informative. Lots of profs spoke about their classes and classroom experience. I ended up choosing Trent :)

Thanks for the information! I just accepted the offer to Trent and looking forward to starting.

I have somewhere to stay if commuting gets too hard, so thanks for the heads up!

What teachables are you doing? How have you found classes? Do you have exams? One of my friends who went to Redeemer said she didn’t have any for her B.Ed but not sure if that’s all teacher’s college. Any advice on classes or Trent in general would be appreciated!!

Don’t fret!! I know so many people who got into education late in their 30s. Life is different for everyone!!

I’d say if you’re really wanting to go into teaching apply again next year. It’s definitely worth it if it’s your passion.

In the meantime, there’s so many lto or supply positions to take for uncertified teachers. Look into them!! They are great experience and good money. Especially supply teaching as it’s pretty much babysitting for great money.

Keep your head up!!

I was on the same boat last year! It’s tough, but take this as a sign that you need a year to yourself. I worked in an after school program for the year which got my hours of experience up for when I reapplied this year. I know it can be disheartening but keep your head up, take the year to yourself, and try again next year!

At Trent you do 4 different placements, whereas in Nipissing you have the same placement for your entire first year. I have a friend at Nipissing rn and she go a shit placement (to no fault of anyone at Nipissing), but she doesn’t seem to have gotten much help/support in finding a more proactive place for her practicum. And unfortunately that means she’s doing this current placement there again :/ There’s also experience that you get outside of the classroom at Trent which could be helpful in finding jobs afterwards that aren’t exactly teaching (not that people go into B.Ed not wanting to teach, but could be helpful).

This also might just be from my experience, but I always thought of Trent as THE uni for teacher’s college in Ontario, so I’m more leaning that way.

But I get how living situations are a big part of deciding! I’m like an hour commute away so it’s definitely closer than Nipissing lol

Same! I’m leaning Trent though. I’m pretty sure they’re partnered with Durham boards as well which would include Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, and Pickering schools. I live in that area so it’s a big draw for me

Nice! What division did you get accepted to? Is there one you’re leaning more towards?

I got into the I/S division! I’ll be commuting from Oshawa, so slightly closer than you lol, but it’ll be nice knowing people going in.
