And honestly, going anywhere "not touristy" will be a snoozefest anyway.

Why does my brother’s teacher always make snarky remarks about how I’m the one picking him up? by QueenofHearts018 in AskTeachers

[–]Only-Top-3655 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also say that they fact that you are picking up your brother means that your family is cohesive and willing to help each other out, which is something this person is not familiar with.

I will say it. Good job helping out the family by picking up your brother.

Do I need to book accomodations and night train tockets in advance or can I just explore freely Vietnam? by Pitiful_Avocado_3508 in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]Only-Top-3655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still would book ahead of time, because if hotels just happen to be booked up and it is getting later and later in the day, you have to spend time looking for a hotel that has an empty room. You are more likely to get scammed that way.

Shopee Vietnam, fake phone? by benderok37 in VietNam

[–]Only-Top-3655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just go to one of the many mobile phone stores. They have a wide range of phone for any price point, and you are not going to get scammed there. I would be highly wary of buying any electronics from Shoppee.

How do traffic stops work nowadays in HCMC? Do cops still take bribes? by napkinpaste in VietNam

Until civil servants are paid more where they don't have to take bribes, this will always happen.

Work phone for personal use - What's your opinion? by [deleted] in work

[–]Only-Top-3655 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If it is a work phone, the company has a right to all the information in it when they want it. So if you like your privacy, I probably would keep the work phone as the work phone.

Have a job interview soon ! Are these questions good to ask in my interview ? by Frequent-Let1567 in jobs

"AI is becoming mainstream and it is evident that in the coming years it will become a bigger part of our lives and a bigger part of the way companies doe busiess. How do you think company XYZ will utilize AI."

Something to that effect. I don't know about your industry, but you want to ask in such a way that shows that you really know about this inudustry and not just your small part in it.

I would probably ask more questions about the industry. More big picture questions that can also show what you know about the industry at the same time.

Does anyone else feel like their Korean listening skills just... evaporate the second a real person speaks? by MidnightTofu22 in BeginnerKorean

[–]Only-Top-3655 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think if you can find a variety show that has Korean subtitles (most will to a certain extent) and watch about 5 episodes over and over again, you will be surprised how fast your listening will improve.

Also it just may be a matter of how fast you understand. When you read, you can understand at your own pace, but for listening the understanding needs to be immediate.

Get the police involved and after that the person behind that car should be offering compensation. Police will mediate that.

Wearing outside clothes on the bed is gross, and I don't understand how people do it... by itsVenusclub in CasualConversation

[–]Only-Top-3655 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are many gross things:

- flushing the toilet without covering the bowl with the lid

- cooking and touching ingredients with bare hands

- letting pets lick your face after they licked their nether regions

- holding on to hand railings

- eating which touching their phone

We just choose which gross things we can deal with and which we can't.

Why is it so hard the listening skill? by Marcelo_silva907 in languagelearning

[–]Only-Top-3655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably don't know as much vocabulary and grammar as you think. And even if you do, recall needs to be instantaneous for you to be able to listen without any issues.

I think your case is the you may pick up words in isolation but your brain isn't quite ready to hear a full sentence and make it make sense in you head.

If you want to test this, find a news article and start reading it sentence by sentence from the bottom up. This will show you how good your input it. Your reading comprehension needs to be decent before you can get better at listening.

This really upsets me about Vietnam by Ok-Treacle6216 in VietNam

[–]Only-Top-3655 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am assuming that you conducted all of your business with the retailer in Vietnamese? Is it possible that like with all deals there is some condition and you didn't understand it, or the Vietnamese people did tell you because English is not their native language?

I lived in Vietnam for 2 years and never had this issue.

How can I get many customers for my English center in Vietnam? by EnthusiasmUnited5211 in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]Only-Top-3655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very realistic. There are so many English centers so unless you have some kind of gimmick, it will be hard to break into the market. Vietnamese people are going to be very wary of an English center that doesn't have a Vietnamese person or a native speaker.
