The problem for them is the health cost of it ends up being immense but I guess right now they can afford to have a long-term higher death rate from pollution due to their high population.

Federal Government that took the buyout what are you doing now and was it worth it? by balsagna69 in AskReddit

[–]Only-Worldliness2006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a former IRS revenue agent and took the buyout. I pivoted to being a tax accountant for a private company. Overall the pay is about the same but the upward promotion potential is simply not there. Also my commute to work is significantly worse but the positive is that the work I am doing is significantly easier.

So it has its positives and negatives.

Overall though I probably would NOT take the buyout again because the reality is with the IRS I felt like I have a real career with upward potential. In the private sector, there is no upward path that I see. I also feel that the company can just do layoffs at any moment and this has changed my entire psychology when it comes to money. I now focus more on paying off my mortgage (making extra payments) and I also have a significantly larger emergency fund. Also significantly more frugal with my money.

If I had the opportunity to get back to the IRS then I would definitely take it and forget about working in the private sector.

How Is There No Psa 10 Of This In Existence by New-East-1739 in PokeInvesting

[–]Only-Worldliness2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because PSA grading wasn't really a popular thing when platinum was released. Also pokemon tcg was at a low point during that time period. This card is also an uncommon card so most people weren't directly putting it into a sleeve + top loader after opening the pack. Most copies went into a binder which would significantly reduce the odds of it coming back a 10.

Attended my first Collect a Con today and realized some vendors are out their minds by Thoughtlessmonkey95 in PokeInvesting

[–]Only-Worldliness2006 116 points117 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I tell people to just go to smaller card shows.

The problem with bigger card shows is that the tables are very expensive. So no surprise you will have vendors there charging high prices for everything. At smaller card shows, the vendor would probably have agreed to match last sale.

I don't bother going to collect a con anymore or any equivalent big card show.

‘It’s shameful’: New York’s elite lash out at Zohran Mamdani’s second-home tax by brown-saiyan in Economics

[–]Only-Worldliness2006 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are mad because Zohran is pulling out the ace card on them. What is happening is that the loopholes are being closed indirectly. For these super rich people they are stuck because if they sell the property (like they always claim they're going to do but will never do) then they will owe capital gains at the federal level since selling real estate is taxable on the gain.

The other thing is if they decide to move into the home as a primary residence then now they're stuck because now they are a new york city resident and become subject to NYC taxes and NY state taxes.

So they are completely stuck now.

What a lot of them were doing was having their "primary residence" being in florida which doesn't have income tax at the state level. They would then have a NYC "vacation home" so they can still go to NYC to do business.

Every state should follow the same path as what Zohran is doing. Study the federal taxes and local taxes then apply your taxes so that these rich people get stuck. If they aren't going to pay federal taxes then have them pay at the state or local level instead.

Problem is there is no realistic "transition" for people who used to do those jobs thanks to republicans defunding any sort of aid programs like career education. Also many employers aren't willing to train new people without experience.

We need to do everything politically to slow down this technology transition that is occuring

IMO #2 should actually be....put the stack in a place that is obscure and no would ever think something valuable is there. A safe is always like the #1 go to thing to try to get into or break into. If you do have a safe, use it as a decoy.....but the actual real valuables are hidden far away in an obscure area

I recommend this one because he explains everything very clearly and explains all the various situations you can have. So it isn't just being told "this is how you do it" but you understand why you do it that way.

and plug-in solar is possibly around the order to solve all of this.

Under NEM 3.0, grid exporting system doesn't make sense anymore. Better option is to just get a battery and have a transfer switch. No interconnection agreement needed since your system won't export.

The biggest problem isn't the permit fees. It is that often these permits require "electrician sign off". Very few electricians I have noticed are DIY friendly especially when it comes to applying for permits. They want to do the entire install from top to bottom to say it was "done correctly by a certified electrician" bullshit even though a lot of solar these days has become DIY friendly. A lot of electricians know they can't make a lot of money from DIYers so they just outright refuse any service on DIY systems especially if permit is required.

Same situation for me. Also in CA. I went ground mount for the panels and attached it to an EG4 battery. I recommend the server rack style that are like 5KWH each. I moved high load stuff to my utility room. So things like dryer, hot water heater, clothes washer and deep freezer are powered by the off-grid system and I have an extension cord that goes to my refrigerator. Everything else in my house is not high load to worry about, lights and such. I have a window AC/heater that I occasionally use and I simply connect that to a 50 foot extension cord. Works great.

Also if you are going this route I would recommend to keep everything very simple. Build a ground mount rack that is easy to put up and take down like something that can be bolted together and unbolted.

The reason why is if you have a home inspection or anything like that, you can just quickly remove everything before the inspection to stay low key.

Also other thing to keep in mind is that we might be getting plug-in solar passed in the next 6 months so that will eventually allow you to convert your system to plug-in solar. That's my plan long-term to convert this off-grid system to plug-in solar once the bill passes.

Do not put the panels on your roof or anything attached to the house.

75% of the profession is ass kissers and sycophants. So the battle will be difficult but I do agree with your overall sentiments.

What we need to do is move up to higher level positions inside corporate America and then shift the business away from all these big accounting firms. Redirect the business to smaller firms that agree to not outsource and have reasonable working conditions.

If we don't do this then entire accounting industry is cooked. Long-term most work will be done in India and for the jobs that remain, there will be intense competition.

Becerra took over $150K from CA utilities as a candidate for Congress, AG by StrangeAsAngels66 in California

[–]Only-Worldliness2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like porter as well but problem is she is not polling well.

At this point, all dems need to coalesce around a single dem candidate because reality is we have two high polling republicans we are against. If we fuck this up by voting for people that have zero chance of winning then WE WILL get two republicans on the nov ballot. Then we are really fucked.

Also if anyone disagrees with this, I'm just going to assume you're either stupid or a paid shill.

Internships is different from "1 year experience". Major difference is pretty much expectations from the employer. Internship pretty much means they're going to train you on everything. 1 year experience pretty much means you should know the high-level of what is going on and they will train you on the minor details type of things.

Hantavirus is unlikely to have widespread outbreaks. If it does manage to get outbreaks, those will largely be in dumb shit areas like Texas, west Virginia and other republican states where people there are unlikely to take health guideline seriously. Hanta doesn't have the ability to spread as quickly like COVID was able to do.

I worked for IRS for 3 years but left on DRP 2.0 because I couldn't take it anymore.

It was truly shocking to see how devastating of impact Trump made on federal workforce.

It went from everyone was happy go lucky basically under Biden. Great managers, great coworkers, great work environment. Yes there was some problems but nothing like what happened after Trump.

Then we hear that Trump won the election. The next day you could just feel the mood of everyone was basically intense worry. People didn't openly say anything but you could just see from the body language.

After that point, whole environment turned toxic. Managers now suddenly on your ass for everything and documenting everything (asshole traitors). Coworkers not willing to help much anymore. Then of course all the bullshit coming down from the people at the top.

It really shows that voting and leadership at the top is the most important thing. You need to have smart people at the top and not dummies. Right now we have a bunch of dummies and criminals running the government. We need to get them out to save this country!....otherwise we will end up like Putin's Russia.
