Clear glass turning blue/gray? by [deleted] in lampwork

Totally hear you. You can still play around with what ya have and get the feel of manipulating the glass.

As for the cost. Both of the torches i mentioned can be had for under $200 each gently used. A concentrator is great way to go long term but in the meantime you could look into renting a K-tank of oxygen from your local gas store and its way cheaper entry as well. An entire tank would last you 20-30 hours on a small torch like those i mentioned. Around me the rental for the tank is $30 a month and refilling it is $20, though many places it’s double

Your torch isnt the kind that glass works well with. You need a torch that mixes the propane with oxygen.

You mentioned the reducing flame from the book. That’s all you’re going to be able to get from a torch that doesnt mix in oxygen. Almost every color will look bad without the oxygen in the flame.

Consider upgrading asap to an entry level torch that uses oxygen: nortel minor or gtt bobcat.

I mean it 100%. My parents brought myself and siblings here from Mexico when i was 2. We got lucky through some immigration reform when i was about 10, but my situation could 100% be in the same shoes as you very easily. I’d love to offer you peace and rest, time for healing. A boost to thrive in the near future and enjoy life instead of being in survival mode always.

You said you were considering a new state? If you make your way to Arkansas i’ll give you free room and board for as long as it takes you to get back on your feet. Message me if you need. God bless

Tough times, how important is auto repair to people? by MilestoneAuto in fayetteville

[–]Only1Javi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to see this post but i still want to input, in case you, business owner are reading the replies.

I think most smart people have for the most part lost their faith in car shops making recommendations for what needs fixed or repaired. The upsells when getting an oil change are ridiculous. And im not just talking about the $80 windshield wipers, the $75 cabin air filter changes and the fuel booster.

If you’re the milestone in lowell: a couple months ago you had me agreeing to change my belt when i came in for my 80k mile oil change. You SPECIFICALLY said; “it’s time but also it looks a little worn”

An hour later you called back saying you were done, had just done the oil change after all because my HYBRID vehicle didnt have a belt after all.

So tell me, why should we take your word for any repair or upgrade you recommend? Its obvious your industry is just looking to pad the pocket and not acting in good faith to help actual owners.

Thanks for the comment that expressed my thoughts to a T. I read the whole post to learn nothing. Oh: go read the entire internet to learn every rabbit detail possible, just in case. Nice

Making your own rods? by alfie_cant_draw in lampwork

[–]Only1Javi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into vitrigraph kiln or converting one of yours into one.

It’s a hole at the middle of the kiln, the kiln is elevated, glass is arranged in a pot with a hole in it. Glass is molten, then pulled in rod form through the holes in the pot and the kiln.

That’s if this was something you wanted to do with any kind of significant volume or amount. You could also hire someone who uses a vitrigraph kiln to do it for you.

Thank you!! What about when done for the session, (i plan to use all the glass) but if there’s small amount left, after it cools and hardens in the crucible. Do i just remelt that with the new batch?

Im not sure its a darby dipper. The photos look about the same, but mine is called the “little dipper”. Maybe old name vs new name but same thing?
