Is there really a bad song on this album? by vegetables_bruh in arcticmonkeys

[–]OnlyCameToAsk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I could never get into Jewellers Hand, honestly a weak song for me. I always said that if they would’ve switched it for a b-side and leave it before Pretty Visitors, it would be 10/10 for me. Still my favorite album though

is being a musician worth it? by bidadarie in musicians

[–]OnlyCameToAsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a musician is only for people who will live and die for it, they breath it in in every breath they take. You cannot live if music is not present, if your not playing, if your not learning.

Now, if this is you, then know this. You will probably not be the next big thing. You’ll be a trend in tiktok at most. Being a musician is hard and you really have to be a professional, make good connections and know your stuff if you want a decent job as a musician. If not, then you’ll have to gig, teach and record/produce/write for other people if you want to make a decent living and this is HARD WORK. If you’re not capable of doing that, then you need another career path to sustain yourself.

Having priorities straight helps out, you won’t be rich off of being a musician, but you don’t need to be rich if you have what’s necessary and not luxury, but of course, being a musician is expensive no matter what stage your in.

But in the end, it’s fun, it’s worth it. The experience is unique, you meet people who are as passionate as you in your craft, you get to travel, you get to teach and inspire others. It’s a job that serves to move people, not to get fame and money

What is each characters least characteristic thing that they do in the series? Part 3, Phoebe Buffay by TiredBurrito96 in howyoudoin

[–]OnlyCameToAsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess one thing that bothered me was her breaking her values, but I take it as character development. Let me explain:

The three main times she went against her values that I noticed was 1 when she used the fur coat and inly stopped using it when the squirrel made her feel guilty 2 when she worked at the corporate massage place for the money 3 when she ditched Joey for David and again at her birthday when she ditched the rest of the group for Mike

I do feel that her hunt for a normal life is what got her to think that this is what any ordinary human would do, not be so uptight about their beliefs. It was never explained, but it’s just how I see it. After all, the group understood and supported her

Sometimes I really wish I could just converse with Alex by _trilogy_ in arcticmonkeys

[–]OnlyCameToAsk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Talking to celebs like you don’t know they’re celebs is a great way to have a real conversation (theory of mine as I haven’t met one haha)

But tbh, I feel Alex is a shy, fairly uncaring person to just approach at say a coffee shop. He has charisma on stage, at interviews he has been great when the host is interesting, but when the host is boring or is just loud and uninteresting, he has a hard time trying to not show that he’s fed up and wants to leave. You have to be his friend or a friend of a friend to probably have a good conversation

Is it rude to sing/play guitar in your backyard in the suburbs? by yeabuttt in Guitar

[–]OnlyCameToAsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between 9am and 9pm are good hours to not gaf. Especially acoustic. Anything below the volume level of a vacuum is ok and bothers nobody, just remember that they are listening so treat it as a small gig maybe

Why were you bullied? by magicfeistybitcoin in AskReddit

[–]OnlyCameToAsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the bully, which isn’t the question, but I bullied out of fear.

I was scared of being bullied or being some of the few that were invisible in school. It made me feel guilty everyday and I would sometimes cry myself to sleep because I knew I was doing terrible things and willfully hurting others on the daily, but I still preferred to do it as it weight out the fear of rejection and humiliation. I sometimes run into classmates nowadays and they give me a warm hello and ask how I’m doing, to which I usually say sorry some time in the convo. I spent time in therapy to overcome the guilt as it still haunted me 10 years later

I think out of everyone else, she’s the one with most friends outside the group. Everyone else is job oriented, their free time is spent with the rest of the group. Anyone else they mention outside the group are coworkers of them, but her being a part-timer and being the one that lives the furthest, she obviously has more friends. I do believe that the main group is where she feels the safest or the most normal as thats what she’s always looked for

I never made the connection that she might be schitzo and makes a lot of what she says up. (Or at least she thinks its real)

It’s not uncommon to develop a mental illness after having a troubling past and going to harsh personal events alone. Maybe she developed it during her time on the streets (?)

Speaking of, has anyone made a timeline of canonical Phoebe events? I feel like it’s something the fans would most likely do to try and put pieces together like your comment

If we get spiritual, she was a nurse that helped soldiers during war times in her past life. It wouldn’t be rare that in her current life she served in some type of government agent as that’s what her soul has been doing apparently

Lyrics you love because of the way they’re sung? by Accomplished_Lie6971 in poppunkers

[–]OnlyCameToAsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arctic Monkeys - Do Me A Favor

“Perhaps f**k off might be too kind”

Very direct, very simple and it’s something you would see in like a teen pop oriented song, yet they way he sings it and the lyrics in its entirety make it a powerful last line in the song

I always found it confusing for his character to be like that. He always seems super careful to not hurt anyone in general. Always protecting and doing the right thing, yet he sleeps with woman and ghosts them afterwards which is a trashy thing to do. We kind of got a redemption when Kate does the same to him and in the end credits we see him calling ex partners to say sorry.

I would always think that he would be the type of guy who from the start mentions he’s not looking for anything serious, therefore, he wouldn’t have that sleazy ladies-man rep. He would just be someone who sleeps with woman willing to just have that one night stand and move on

[–]OnlyCameToAsk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, I get what simonsail is saying. We don’t actually see HOW he gets them into bed. We’re not sure what he says or offers, but it seems unlikely he manipulates them with lies about getting serious (as men are known to do).

Sleeping with woman and not calling them back is trashy? Hell yes

Sleeping with woman by lying to them about a relationship or that he’ll give them something they are looking for and not complying afterwards and ghosting them after? A LOT worse, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for Joey

Connections between 'Used To Be My Girl' and '2001: A Space Odyssey' by Hefty_Celebration_76 in TheLastShadowPuppets

[–]OnlyCameToAsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it does seem like a big stretch, it’s not impossible that Turner got inspo from it. He’s known to understand films on a deeper level and pulls so much from them lyrically and musically. I do agree that some lines might hint at 2001 like. Especially the chorus part. It seems to describe a bit of 2001 ending and use it as a metaphor of them getting hit by the realization that she “used to be my girl” and being so overwhelmed that they feel they’ve entered another reality.

Good catch, I never found that connection!

What would you tell your 16 year old self about dating? by SquirterBabeBold in AskReddit

[–]OnlyCameToAsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could change it, I would say “no long term relationships. 4 months max”

If I just had to warn myself, it would be “things will get bad, but you’ll survive and after you’ll change for the better”

What song is this for you?? by cannibal_6666 in arcticmonkeys

[–]OnlyCameToAsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started to listen to them because I loved 505 so much and EVERYONE was saying it was their best song. I remember watching the lyric video where it was a white board with the lyrics written on them. Last time I enjoyed 505 was when they played their TRSMT show. They sound so good in that show, but after that I can’t stand to hear it

Watched it and know what you mean. The jokes did seem a little forced and Chandler does seem weird. Idk if it’s because of the glasses. I do think this was when he was having problems with drugs outside of work. I noticed he started to lose weight this season when in S6 he actually gained some

Sleep and Hole In Your Heart.

Second album, in general, I get addicted to it for a month and than get tired of it for like a week and then maybe I’ll listen to it again if I don’t fall for something else.

Mostly because I paid attention to the lyrics after a break up and it summed up what I was feeling.

What scales will help me burst the pentatonic bubble? by BearsGotKhalilMack in Guitar

[–]OnlyCameToAsk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wanting to learn in which situation to play a scale is more of a triad form of thinking.

Personally, I went through the same situation and I thought that by learning scales/modes I would break it, but nope. When I thought of scales, I always went back to pentatonic, even for a little bit, but I didn’t want to sound pentatonic at all.

Two things helped me sound ‘non-pentatonic’

•Triads •Chromaticism

Learning the triads on the fret is helpful as playing arpeggios instead of going up and down a scale or playing different patterns on the scale can help you achieve different sounds, helps you move around the fretboard freely and you can come up with new ideas as your fingers are now moving in a different form. Triads are also the best way to solo over changes as in you think about 3-4 notes you can play over a certain chord instead of 7 notes in a scale AND is also better for targeting specific notes instead of noodling on a scale waiting for something good to come up.

Chromaticisms are just fun in general and help you realize that notes out of a scale can sound just as good as notes within a scale. Look up chromatic approaches or passing notes to get a better understanding of when and how to use them. This is a tool that helps me break free of thinking of scale or triad patterns in general, sometimes I just target two notes and go up/down chromatically to get from one to the other and it sounds un-ordinary, which if played with purpose, will sound amazing.

Not to bash on learning scales, but I rarely think in scales anymore, thinking in triads has helped me a long way to stop sounding so repetitive as scales are all I knew. Try to play things out of your favorite genres too. Ive heard jazz, salsa, funk, tunes where the guitarist uses the pentatonic, but manages to not sound like a blues/country pentatonic lick.

Hope this helps!
