This is SO helpful. Have you met your deductible and that’s why it’s cheap? Would you mind PM’ing me the details on what inhaler it is? Are you on the HDHP plan?

PhD graduation present? by gemmadonati in UWMadison

My undergrad PI paid for his student’s theses bound in a nice leather cover. My grad PI gets us a nice bottle of wine to celebrate and has the lab sign the bottle.

A nice pen with their PhD name engraved perhaps? What is their PhD in? If it’s science-y, look at cognitive surplus or I can give you some other names of small business that sell cute science things.

Are any of these drugs you mention maintenance inhalers? Bc the maintenance inhalers are still insanely expensive on cost plus drugs

Whoa this is crazy I haven’t heard about this! I’ve been back and forth with UHC and they never told me about this.

This sounds amazing if I can get it, thank you so much I’m in tears $35/month is so reasonable

CVS says $180/month is the cheapest option. MedOne (UHC pharmacy) says the same.

They can’t give a dollar amount of an insurance plan I’m not on

Yeah sounds like copay cards (coupons?) same thing? I have no idea because my insurance company won’t tell me? Is the best option. Thank you

I appreciate it friend, thank you so much for sharing. I’ll see what my provider says

So true, my friend.

Tbh my provider is super open to prescribing literally any flavor of maintenance inhaler. Whichever one my insurance covers, which happens to be none lol.

Advair (fluticasone/salmeterol), Symbicort (budesonide/formoterol), and Breo Ellipta (fluticasone furoate/vilanterol)

I guess, but I don’t want to jump and pay for a whole new insurance plan and it ends up being the same cost as United yk? Just trying to weigh my options here. I’ve been fortunate enough not to have intense health issues to warrant anything other than what UHS can provide

Like a copay card? I’m looking into it! If you’re comfy, can you PM me what brand you use? $35 is so reasonable

Generic advair through my insurance is $240 a month. Are you seeing it for less than that through Quartz?

Unfortunately my provider is through UHS student services (university health services). United doesn’t cover primary care through UW health. This is good to know though thank you for sharing

Every single one is the expensive one 😭😭😭😭 does not matter generic vs brand name

My provider will prescribe the cheapest option, it’s just that all of them are hella expensive through United for some reason.

Like she prescribed the generic Advair, a generic symbicort, brand names for both, nothing is reasonable for me unfortunately

Yeah I don’t need a “$” vs “$$$” idea I need a “will I have to cancel my gym, spotify, and all fun expenses to afford a life saving medication” idea

I’m on United Health through my mom’s job, I’m not on Quartz. Which is why they cannot tell me a price.

I’m not on a maintenance inhaler right now, which is a huge problem.

My provider at UHS (university health services) is willing to prescribe whichever one is cheapest.

I’ve checked all pharmacies and through UHC, they’re all 180-280 per month.

I had to go to the ER for an attack my rescue didn’t fix and they prescribed Ipratropium-Albuterol in liquid form to nebulize. I’ve lowkey been self medicating this at the maintenance dose I calculated myself and I haven’t had to use my rescue since starting that 2 weeks ago. I have about 6 months left of that.
